Not sure why I ask as I know what I am going to do.

Just got a new WBY ULtra Lightweight in my 2nd favorite caliber. 270wby magnum.
All I did was clean the bore, checked the action screws and mounted a reliable scope in Talley LW's.

One shot to verify my boresighting was good. Next two shots cut one hole and the third was 3in low (R22 and 150 partitions). Next 3 shot group was all over in probably a 3-4" group (didn't measure it was so bad)(R22 and 130 Hornadys).
I knew the barrel had a ton of up pressure so I then stuck 3 layers of cardboard from the box of target staples to float the barrel. I noticed at that time that WBY beds the recoil lug which is a good thing but the front action screw actually threads thru the bedding, not good but not sure how bad that could be.
Anyway - The next 3 shot group with 130AB and R22 was about 1.5". Which is an improvement.

My next trip I'll probably change scopes, try factory ammo and try a different stock with barrel floated and action bedded. If no improvement it'll go back into the factory stock and back to WBY.

If starts to show improvement I'll keep working on it and when all is good I'll either buy a MCM or modify the factory stock to replicate the donor stock.
Sound reasonable?

I would shoot it with Weatherby factory ammo and see how it shoots. If it doesn't do the guarantee send it back. That barrel is very thin It would take a long time to cool it during our summers in the south so that may be a factor as well. The screw running thru the lug shouldn't be a problem , I have a submoa that was bedded the same way. I fixed mine but it made no difference in the accuracy department. I would like to have 3 of those ULW's 240-257-270 Bee but the wife might not like the idea much grin Sounds like you have a plan in place and a good one

It does take a while to cool. That's why I go at 6:30am but it's still slow...... Next time I might have everything ready for a change but will try it bone stock with factory ammo and see. I will go ahead and try another tested scope. If it doesn't improve then I'll try the stock. Then send it back. At least I should have it solved without burning up a ton of ammo and 3-4 range trips.

Nice gun Daveh, real nice gun. I am trying to make one I own into a pseudo ULW with an Edge stock and might even rebarrel it.

I have a Weatherby Super Predator Master in 22-250 which is the same as an Ultralight. Mine does the same thing once the barrel gets hot. If you let it cool between shots you will get tight groups. Once it heats up it starts to walk. Makes no difference for me since I usually take one shot at a 'yote, fox or ground hog.

Dave,
I had the exact same rifle(sold it, like an idiot frown ) but it would shoot a handload of the 140TSX with RL22 and Fed215M primers- bugholes at 100 yards for 3 shots IF I let the barrel cool well between shots.

It did almost as well with factory 140gr? ballistic tips.

On the other hand, it absolutely would not shoot partitions(150gr) no matter what powder I tried.

Have fun, I think once you get it shooting how you want, you will be glad you have it.

I like to at least get two rounds close, if a rifle like this kicks the third round out an inch or less I can live with that but it's not there yet...... This one has a BUNCH of forend pressure.......
