I've been looking into one of these for awhile now. The green houge stock in 25/06 really is calling my to just buy it. But has anybody shot one of these yet. Tell me about it! This is what I'm looking at. http://www.legacysports.com/products/howa/howa_hogue.html

Howa rifle might need a new trigger...."might" I say.. And thats the ONLY negative thing I can think of for their rifles..they put out an impressive product.. Ingwe

I have one in 243 win that is a really good shooter it doesn't have the Houge stock. the only negative thing that I can say about it is that it is really heavy for a 243. other than that everything about it is really nice.

You're not going to make a lightweight with one that's for sure but you can get them in the mid to upper 7's all setup.

The only negatives I can think of, have been noted above, they are not lightweights by any means, and the triggers aren't all that. I replaced my .270's trigger with a Timney, and it's pretty good now.
Mine is an older rifle in a B&C Old English stock, similar to a Winchester Featherweight in shape, it's a pretty good rifle.

The weight of the rifle is not going to bother me since I will be in the tree stand and the hogue stock is pillar beded, so it shouldbe a good shooter. The new triggers are very clean and adjustable.

A friend of mines 7mm mag shot great. But it was a ss/syn and had bad rust issues. If you farted the damn thing would get surface rust going. Always wiped clean but I wonder how it would do on a week long hunt.

I've been kinda snooping around a Vanguard/Howa myself. Still troubled that even the new style triggers may not be very good. Can't get into the idea of adding another $100 to make one as good as other guns in that price range. Don't understand how a little company like Timney has more $$ for R&D than Weatherby does.

I have a Howa SS in a Hogue stock in a .308win.. It was a very accurate rifle right out the box, and I generally like it very much. The trigger is adjustable anda little tweaking got it to be " very good"..I think a good gunsmith who knew how to stone it and set it up correctly would make it "excellent"... The down side is the SS...it rusts very easily...I know even stainless steel is not rust proof, but my Howa rusts far quicker thanmy old SS Ruger for instance...Its no big deal as I fully intended to get it Duracoated anyway.. The other negative is the Hogue stock...Its not really stiff enough in the fore end as like many factory stocks, its largely hollow under the barrel channel...I ended up filling the fore end and that's improved it no end...The next job will be to fill the hollow butt section with expanding builders foam... I may very well replace the stock with a B&C or similar, but when a rifle shoots well I'm loath to mess with it.. Below shows a typical group, not a one off good one so to speak:

Does anyone know when they stopped making the WSM's? They still do, as far as I know, I saw several in the gunshop last week, most of them were in those awful Axiom stocks, though. Maybe they targeted a bunch of them for those hideous stocks.

Put my .308 Vanguard in a B&C Medallion stock. Shoots 1.5" @ 300 yards. Still working on the .223 Howa. Both are for sale. Going back to Mausers. I know it's a sickness. jfblake1955 aol.com

I've owned three Howas and worked with a few more from the bench. They were all accurate. Apparently Howa makes very good barrels. The triggers were all adequate for hunting but certainly not the best I've seen.
