Everyone, I need some suggestions.
I have been contemplating selling a heavy barreled remington 700 in .308. I have only shot factory rounds through it(a year and a half ago) and it shot WELL...a consistant 3/4" or better. I know with hand loads it will shine.
I also have a Tikka t3 stainless in .22-250, I have contemplated sending down the road. It also shoots well, and is a certainly light "varmint" rifle.
What would you do? Part with the tikka, or the .308? My current calibers are(other then those) are, .30-30, .44 Magnum, .257 weatherby(once complete), .30-378 weatherby, .270 win, and a .45-70.
What ever rifle I keep is going to be for varmints, and paper--Thats it. My only thing so far, is the remington will certainly be better to build off of, once I get bored of the caliber.
So lets hear it...what would you do??

If you punch more paper than varmints, keep the .308. If the reverse, keep the .22-250. My go to coyote rifle is a .22-250 and it will be with me until I die or until I pass it to one of my grandchildren.

mudhen, out of curiosity, why not the .308 for varmint? Because of the high volume shooting??
Thank you,

Sell the Tikka and put a 22-250 barrel on the 700!

Powell,
Im considering that in my decision. The .308, definately is easier to shoot off the bench, having that fat wide forend.

For a dedicated varmint rifle, the 22-250 mkes more sense. Less recoil and lots of varmint bullet choices, and still fun to punch paper with, unless you are going past 300yds.

I'd keep the .22-250, or sell 'em both and get a heavy barreled varmint rifle in .223 or .22-250. ltpowell's idea would work, too.

Sell 'em all and start over. Should keep you busy for a year.

Im leaning toward the .308. It has a 1-11.25" ROT, and shoots the 175's well.
The tikka shoots a 52 sierra match king like crazy.

As expensive as a wedding is, what you get for a rifle won't even put a dent in it. And, the wedding is the cheapest part of what is to come.
