There's a blue M70 Classic Fwt 280 heading my way shortly, going to put it into an aftermarket stock as a backup to my pre-64 300 Win. The latter has a McMillan pre-64 Monte Carlo pattern which fits me to a "T". I'm thinking of ordering the same exact stock, just with the Edge fill this time around. The Supergrade pattern is the other one I've been eyeballing as an alternative.
Curious as to which patterns folks here have used on their similar rifles, and how you like them. If you have any pictures, I'd sure love to see them.
I remember a thread a good while back with a bunch of pics of different stocks against a template, had it bookmarked but can't find it now. Anyone remember what I'm talking about?
Thanks.

I put a fw barrel on a 670. So pretty close to same barreled action as best I can tell.... Anyway I went with the "hunters edge" and really like how it all worked out.

I have a compact (Hunters) edge on mine, but I'm not crazy about it. For me, the comb is too low and thin - but I crawl a stock. I am tempted to put a Bansner on instead.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

You do that and your .300 Win is likely to become your backup rifle. My Classic SS .30-06 is going in a Hunters Edge blind mag stock. I should pick it up next week from the GS.

Stock fit is very personal, but the compact pattern seems about a perfect mate to the Model 70 fwt to me. Balance is good even without going to the expense of the EDGE construction. .270 Win, 22" barrel I do not like the amount of drop on most of Mickey's patterns for the Model 70. A supergrade pattern would be way too bulky for a fwt .280 (although I like it just fine on my .416 rem.)

Stock fit is very personal. I had McMillan Compact Edge on my FWT 7/08 and it was a fine stock, but the balance was a bit too neutral for my tastes. I like a little bit of forward bias for off-hand shooting. I've got a standard fill Featherweight pattern McMillan on order for that 7-08 right now, so it'll be interesting to compare the two.

I've a Hunter's Edge on mine, no regrets--it's easily a perfect match IMO. a hunting partner loved the feel of the stock but opted for a bit more heft and went Compact (standard fill) for his and he couldn't be more pleased. Regardless, the stock seems made for the FWT.....

That is a Good thread, should have been a sticky!
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

CFVA, the Hunter's compact edge is a great stock. If Utah doesn't post his thread, I'll look for it and post it myself....Here's my EW in a compact edge stock:

Are you against a featherweight on a featherweight? I'm not sure if you can get a Sako Hunter inletted for a '70. but the Hunter is my fav, not that I dislike the FW....

Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
