Tried BH 209 for the first time this AM. Started with 120gr. right out of the chute behind 250gr. Hornday SST's. ML is a TC Triumph with a Leupold 2x7 in Leupold QR rings. First 100 yard three-shot group around 6" high (from normal 2" high zero with Pyrodex) Grouped about 1.5".....hmmmmmm, not bad. Walked the scope down to 3" high @ 100 yard, shot another 1.5" group. (never swabbed the tube) Backed up to 200 yards. First shot,..."no way"......an inch low? Subsequent shots confirmed the first and ended with a 3.25" group. (still haven't swabbed the tube) Wee crunched for time, so I didn't check what'd be at 250 but wanted to check zero @ 50. Two shots, one big hole dead center in the 1.5" black dot. Done. Random notes: * I checked the breech plug on several occasions - as easy to remove as it was after the first shot. * Buh-bye crud ring on breech. * Taint your normal "kaaaaaaaaaabooooooom", and there's significantly less smoke. Whelen Nut (from here) was present and he remarked that it sounded more like my 350 mag than a ML. * Loading was as easy on the last shot as it was the first. * Ran a patch through the tube after the last shot of the morning and there was less black/residue than you'd normally find after two shots with Pyrodex. * You don't need stinkin' dots on the reticle using this stuff - it's MOB (minute of boiler) on any whitetail to 200 yards. Summation: BH 209 rocks. Ready for the Kansas ML season in a couple weeks.

Nice, last year I left the shotgun(slug barrel) cased on my IL deer hunt. I took 5 deer with the Knight & B209.

I'm glad to hear, you had good shooting with BH 209.
That is some-kind of good powder. The stuff works for me. Sorta nice not having to swab the bore <g>.
Have a great day.

Guys- I know I'm not the first to sing its praises and its not like it came out yesterday, but, IMO, this stuff is the best thing to happen to ML hunting in a LONG time.

i know this is a dumb question, but what is the best way to measure loose powder? I am one of those guys who uses the pellets for easy loading, but I have been curious about loose powder and would like to try it, the BH209 seems to be the way to go....any advice would be appreciated.

Get yourself one of these, and the spout for can (second link) and you're ready to rock.
Looks like you'll have to cut/paste this:

"Grin" I don't know why anyone would still shoot 777 after shooting BH-209. Doc

My buddy had 'scope eye' after shooting 120grns of B209 last Fall. He forgot about the kick, of course he had a touch of flu at the time too.

Marty- Yes on the 250 SST. They fly like darts - you know I love the Barnes but I just cannot get the accuracy with them - even with your top secret sabots sleeves. *grins* Sourdough- I guess I didn't notice the recoil, even with the extremely light Triumph and wearing only a short sleeve shirt - and I'm NOT a fan of recoil.
