Have used 43 gr of 5744 under a 250 gr FTP and 42 gr of 4759 under the 300gr XTP mag bullet on whitetails with great success. Both are accurate, and both could be pushed harder if there were a good reason to do so. I happen to like the black MMP sabot for hunting.

Imagine your grave on a windy winter night. You've been dead for 70 years. It's been 50 since a visitor last paused at your tombstone..... Now explain why you're in a pissy mood today.

Download the manual for it. It has all the recommended loads in it. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/literature/

Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

I use 37 grains VV 110 powder with a 250 gr. hornady XTP /MMP sabot. The pics show groups with 42 grain and 37 grains,i stick with 37 for better accuracy and less recoil. I harvested the small buck last year with my savage,he was dead before he hit the ground. I have found my gun shoots well with several bullets but you have to spend time finding the right sabot to get good accuracy.

That is most definitely a 700ML, not a Savage. Not made for smokeless.

i picked up a like new savage. what loads are you finding the most accurate in these guns. mine is a stainless/black synthetic gun. i may keep it and i may sell it. Every year I SWEAR I'm going to return to hunting my T/C Hawkin 50 cal. I hunted that rifle exclusively from 1972 until around 2000/02 when I bought my Savage 10-MLII. I like EVERYTHING about the blackpowder gun. I have killed more deer with that rifle than any other gun I own. Yet, I shoot the Savage and it just shoots too damn well not to hunt with it. My load is 47 grains of IMR 4227 and a 45 cal. 250 grain Hornady XTP. I use the MMP sabot (black). I can't argue with the results.

I shoot 60gr of VV N120 with a 300gr Hornady SST with the black MMP sabot. It is accurate and has plenty of power.
