Buudy of mine called today and told me while sighting in rifles he accidentally fired a .243Win round in his 7mm08. He wanted to know if that screwed up his barrel. I told him I honestly did not know. Can a lead bullet mess up a steel rifling? He did not want to shoot it after the incident, so I have no idea how it shot after that. Any thoughts? Thanks!

It's just fine. He probably heard a funny low note/squib sound when it went off, and should not be telling others of his actions.

A couple of years ago I had sighted in my 30.06 and then missed the target a couple of times. After looking I had grabbed some 25.06 and shot them. It didn't hurt the rifle but I'm a lot more careful now.

Won't hurt the rifle.
I've fired .30-06 in a 9.3x62. Talk about fireforming with radical neck splitting ... doah.

One way to really reduce the recoil of the .338 Winchester Magnum is to fire the ammo in a .416 Remington Magnum.

Seen a guy shoot a 375H&H in a 458 WM. At least he had a real good "chamber casting" of his 458 in brass!

Lots of 300 Wknchester ammo has been shot in 300 Weatherby's over the years too.

Friends have the habit of shooting my 44 Mags in their 45 Colts.
Good thing they aren't SAA's or replicas....

Just tell him not to do the reverse experiment. My own personal rule is only one box of shells on the table at any given time. And I have big, bold writing on all ammo containers.

Buddies dad missed an opportunity at a real nice Newfie moose a couple years ago. No matter how hard he pushed, the bolt wouldn't close on his .270. Dang '06 shell just didn't want to fit. Best part was it was 3rd day he'd been carrying it.
Saw a 9mm that got fired out of a .40. Neat looking. Think reverse .357 SIG.

I haven't fired anything in the wrong gun, but last time I made it to the range, I took my .204 rifle, and .17 Remington ammo. Whoops. And of course, the .17 box is the only one that is not marked as to what it is. That reminds me. Gotta go mark that box.

Is anyone marking their brass, when using reformed brass from another caliber/cartridge? I saw some brass where a groove had been cut on a lathe, making the head-stamp illegible. Maybe something simpler would be worthwhile.

Lots of 300 Wknchester ammo has been shot in 300 Weatherby's over the years too. I have heard of this, usually when .300 Wby. ammo. was not available, Never seen it, though. Does it work, and if so, how well, if you had to do it or not shoot at all? I would be mainly concerned with gas blow back over the shorter .300 Win. shoulder and neck area.
