90%+ condition, no rib, belgium made, with one of those ugly bulbous adjustable chokes on the end of the barrel. I see lots of Sweet 16s for sale, but few with the adjustable choke. And sale prices often have little correlation with actual purchase price, so I'm not so sure about the value of this one.

I may be trading my Ruger Mark II Ultralight in .243 (95%+ condition) with an older 2-7x Redfield scope for it, and I'd like to know that I'm trading up...and certainly not trading down on the deal.

I just bought one similar to the one you describe although mine has a solid rib. It is a 1953 Belgian Sweet 16 in 90%+ condition and has a Hartford Cyclone adjustable choke which I don't feel detracts from the look of the shotgun. It looks right for that vintage shotgun. I paid $650 for mine and felt I got a good deal. Similar ones are listed higher on most of the gun auctions/for sale sites.

Only you can decide if the trade is fair. I would say it is.

I got this one for well under that a year ago. Light 12, ribbed barrel and at least 98%. Three different gun dealers offered the guy $200 consistently.

I was told the thin barrels were cracking using steel shot and therefore the value of them was way down around here. I'm not a shot gunner but I couldn't pass this one up.

This one is a 1951 model with improved cylinder choke.

Light 20s and Sweet Sixteens bring a premium in the DFW market. Asking is usually +1000, but I do not think they sell for that.

Do not use steel shot in any of the older Brownings. Not sure about thin, but the steel is not hard enough to withstand a steady diet of steel shot. You might score the barrel. I bought a Jap barrel with invectors for my A-5 and it fits like a glove.

With the grenade launcher on the end of it $500 max without it 85-100% 800 to 1200 bucks when you get that much dollars it's gotta be really nice with an open choke. You are trading slightly down way I see it. Just sold my 72 A-5 Light Twelve with cyl choke barrel marking and a plain matted barrel for $700. Sweets bring more especially so with a mod or imp cyl vent rib barrel. No they aren't steel shotshell guns period. Magnum Man

Sold my 1959 vent rib Sweet 16 in November for $1200. Good ones will bring that if you're not in a hurry.

This appears to be a good one, but with that ugly choke on the end of the barrel, it looks like it won't get much attention from buyers.

Thanks for all the replys!
