Scare up a copy of "The J.M.Pyne Stories and Other Selected Writings by Lucian Cary", edited by Guy Lautard. You will be glad you did. It contains all of the J.M.Pyne stories originally published in
Saturday Evening Post and later in
Gun Digests that were based on the great barrel maker Harry M. Pope. Fictionalized but accurate portrayal of the man Cary counted as a close friend in real life. Highly entertaining for a rifle loony! (I've just about read the printing off the pages of my copy.)
Cary was a true wordsmith whether he was writing fiction or non-fiction. Few gun writers today can match him, IMO. (Present company excluded of course!
