The GPS I use the most is the one in the car.
I got a 'handheld' one for the boat and another smaller one with a string to put over my neck for the woods first. If I had got the one in the car first I may not have got the others.
The one in the car has a internal battery that charges when you connect it to 12V.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

You have 4 criteria, You ain't gonna find all 4 in the same unit. I chose the Garmin 450t. It eats batteries, has topo maps, and is easy to use. You can get one for $199 right now, which is a reasonable price for what you get. http://www.rei.com/product/798880/garmin-oregon-450t-gps

Low to mid range Garmins. Perhaps the Etrex, Oregon, or Dakota models. One can extend battery life by switching off some options in their setup menus. Things like internal compass, point averaging etc accelerate battery consumption.
I run the lowest end Etrex units and can get a near continuous 24 hrs out of 2 AA batteries. In most of my applications though, there is little to no need for continuous operation.

I had the "little yellow etrex" and liked it. I have a Garmin 20 now, and it does the job I ask of it. It works fairly well in canopy and is accurate enough for me to find my treestand in the dark before dawn.
I'm not particularly enamored of the Bird's-eye, to be exact it's resolution when zoomed down to a small area, but the GPS does support topo maps.

+1 I have been using the Garmin MAPGPS series for years and they are top notch! I lost my all time favorite model the Garmin 60CSX (discontinued now) last hunting season but found a Garmin MAPGPS 62s on sale a Bass Pro for $239. I checked out the Oregon series that are touch screen similiar to new smart phones but decided the button models would be easier to use in cold weather while wearing gloves.

I don't know if they still make it but I have had great results from the Garmin tre. Legend. Supports both tool and road maps and if you don't use backlighting, battery life is very good

Not sure if I'm current model-wise, but the Garmin Etrex H is a good simple unit with high sensitivity receiver. Mine even works in the house.

Thanks for the advice guys.I ordered a Garmin eTrex 30 TOPO GPS Bundle from Amazon for 289 plus 4.95 shipping. After reading the reviews this seemed to fill my needs and was cheaper then Cabelas by $60 plus Cabelas charges Tax.One of the nice features is you can load an SD card that has all the landowners names, boundaries and State and BLM land and boundries. No more arguing with Outfitters over boundaries.

I've been researching the Garmin Montana 600 quite a bit. Thinking of buying one to upgrade from my Vista for my Elk hunt this fall.
