So I have decided to swap out my 30-06 barrel for a 25-06. This is what I am doing. Anything else I should do?

FN M70 Super Grade
Shilen 24" 1 in 9" twist barrel - same contour as the super grade
Action trued/squared
Bedded and free floated barrel

make sure the barrel is still floated if changing contours. Trigger adjusted nicely.

I would have used the money for another lens. Real nice photographs on your web site.

Hey Rembo...my "appointment" has been made and he is ordering the barrel. Will be done before hunting season.

Removed his name don't need anyone bumping my rifle and dragging out the time to get it done

Trigger will be done and barrel is going to be the same contour as the factory one.

Sounds like the makings of a great rig! What stock are you going with?

Only thing I'd encourage you to do is to get a firm date of commitment from the smith you choose to use as to when the rig will be done.

More so along the lines of once the barrel is in hand how long will it take for turn around. I say this for a couple of reasons, one it keeps everyone on the same page and no hard feelings come out of it. Plus I've known more than one smith to be working on a completely different time table than the customer was. And lastly we're all professionals and I feel that there's nothing wrong with a smith being held to his/her word as to when a project will be done.

Off my soap box, and let us know how it turns out.

I am keeping the super grade stock on it. I was lucky and found one with outstanding wood so the barrel will be the same as the factory contour.

The smith told me he would have the barrel on hand by April and would get on my rifle right away after that. I told him I needed it back before hunting season and that is not an issue. The smith I am using is the go to guy for M70's up here and I am sure with his reputation he won't screw around with me.

I'd be sure the wood was sealed up in the channel, under the butt plate and so forth.

Have the smith pay some attention tk the trigger if needed.

You mean the stock or metal? Blued like the super grade was originally and stock will be untouched.

These and more are all things your very capable smith will do as a matter of course. Relax harv. smile

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

I've got parts for a 6MM Remington built on a M70 going out soon as well. He does amazing things with them...

Good move, the .25-06 is one cartridge that I have wanted for 40+ years and yet have never had; I now NEED one, very much! smile

I have a pristine Brno 21 action, one of a pair I have kept hidden in one of my safes and I am thinking, 23" No2ish tube, any of the good makers is fine with me, a light synthetic such as the Micky Edge MKX I like so well, Talley Screwlocks, Swaro Z3-3x10x42 duplex and a Alaskan Arms trigger paired with, this time for fun, a Recknagel 3-pos. safety.

Should, oughta go 7.5 ish lbs, phuque Turdeau's "metric" and 115NPs should do 3000+.....a nice rig for when I move "home" to the Kootenays and am tired of my .280s and .270s.

Probably still go with "K&K", these boys have done me proud on a dozen+ of my custom hunting pieces and while they can be slow, the work meets my anal standards and the rifles SHOOT...even for an ancient geezer, like me.

Then, I have "dibs" on a P-64 "Transition" and I also have long NEEDED a .35 "Colonel" and that should be a project to dream about for the next year or so.
