Well I started the process for a 257Wby today. Tomorrow the smith is gonna order a #3 3groove 1:10 Lilja. Action/bolt will be trued and lapped, and threads re-cut (ss M70 Classic). I've got a McMillan off of an old Winlight with a blind magazine, call it a classic-ish. I'll have the scope base screws opened up to 8x40. Trigger will be tuned, it's acceptable already 2.5#ish. It'll get bedded of course. It'll get a new mag box and hex-head action screws. I've got a 4.5-14 W/M-1 elevation turret to bolt on.

This is my 1st rifle build/rebarrel so, what else?

25" Might throw an odd fraction on the end just to keep folks guessing. 25 & 3/64th's or something of that sort.

Anything you'd leave off? I mounted the scope on a SS 300Win earlier this summer and snapped off a base screw so now a slight case of gunshy has me looking to 8x40's.

For me, yes, but you ain't doing anything that is WRONG, that's for sure.

I'd go 24 76/64" for barrel length.......

Also meant to ask, would you chamber with the standard Wby freebore or not?

I've of course asked the smith these questions too and he's answered them to my satisfaction. Just wondering what mileage others have.

what else do you need........

put the bolt on the left hand side and send it to me for testing, I believe you'd be good to go!

Sound like a sweet rig, hope to get to see pics of it.
