I got a question for you cerakote gurus.
Are you out of luck if you rub your cerakote off? I know you aren't supposed to be able to knock the stuff off, but I'm pretty good at it. Any way to make it look better besides a redo? Nothing like a stainless rub on a black barrel.

I touched one up last week that had a light spot. It was on the action and is partially hidden when in the stock. You could not tell but you have to be careful with overspray or it might have visible/rough edges.the barrel would be more difficult to hide. Worth a try to avoid a redo.I prepped the area with 400 grit, time will tell...

I've coated (Cerakote, Gunkote, Roguard, NP3) a handful of rifles.... however, keep in mind my AO is laughably mundane and easy on gear compared to Alaska. If I were living and hunting SE AK, no doubt I'd only consider bead blasting SS.

Bead blasting sucks too. BT/DT Every rub and bump shows right up, and is plain as day. It also traps water better and rust spots show up sooner. I'm starting to love just plane jane SS.

Hard chrome coating is another option, and probably the most durable.

Calvin,
You might try a cerakote color closer to the silver of the bead blast SS.
This way a scrape would not be as noticeable.

The stuff Remington puts on their XCRs (TryNite) is tough as nails, and the black version they do over stainless looks pretty dang cool as well.

You must be referring to alum oxide blasting which leaves a flat navy gray finish and shows scratches or rubs easily. I prefer glass beaded, and wipe it down with Corrosion X or Johnson's paste wax. No rubs - no rust. It's not scratch proof say against granite rock but not much are. You could always rattle can your barrel and touch it up every season......... MtnHtr

I too much prefer glass beads to 120 grit aluminum oxide. hands down a much nicer finish!
