when it comes to sights, I think the consensus around here is if its of the appropriate era, no one is going to say its wrong or right with much certainty. The 15WG was used 100,000 gun earlier on the 1899 deluxe 250-3000 but certainly could be correct on your rifle as well.

That thing appears to be a real screamer! Tons of condition! Which leads all the more to believe the sight is correct. Nice find!

Kinda on the darker side but with that grain I'd say it was one of the fruitwood stocked rifles.

I was wondering about that it could be refinished but I can't tell it . The bore is a little rough but you win some , some you don't in that area .

No, I don't think it's been refinished but the fruitwood stocks have a distinct grain to them, usually very coarse looking with a solid kinda look.

jmevans,

For $500 I say you did great! I have one nearly identical to yours. It has become my "go to" rifle in the last year. In my opinion, it is the very best form of 99 for a "carry a lot, shoot a little" kind of guy like me. You will enjoy it thoroughly.

I just wish mine had only cost me $500...

Doug
