So I really like the Randall #5
Can anyone post me to something similar with a 7 inch blade. Without a 5 year waiting list?
I also like the 916 Buck, any reviews on that?

I prefer this. It's not a Randall, but it's also not $500 bucks and a 5 year wait. I've been very pleased with this one: https://www.amazon.com/SOG-Specialt...ative=165953&creativeASIN=B000JVQT3M

I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and get a randall.
It''s about more than a knife, dad and I camped all the time when I was little and I always remember the constant advice given. Always have a knife, and if possible have a big knife. It'll do the job of a small one, but a small one won't do the jobs of a big knife.
Somewhere since his death his knife has been lost. I really don't even know what it was but it was big and heavy, and sharp.it always hung from the belt of his Blackhawk 41, that was sold when times got tough when I was little
This one will hang from the belt of.my 4 inch 29
I kind of want something to pass down to my daughters or grandkids

If you are looking to keep it under $100, then take a look at the Kabar Becker BK-7. Otherwise there are any number of custom makers that could give you what you want. This one is about perfect IMO. Made by Dave Wesner of Kelsey Creek knives, Gus model.

Take a look at Bark River's knives--especially the Bravo 2 (7" blade, great steels, .235" stock). Its not a round, stacked leather handle but its pretty close to what you are looking at. You can usually find a lot of steel / handle configurations in stock on sites like theknifeconnection.com or kniveshipfree.com as well. Or you can get on their list and order whatever floats your boat (not as long a wait as Randall). I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and get a randall.

I kind of want something to pass down to my daughters or grandkids Sounds like this is as much (or more) about nostalgia and romance than actual performance. I suggest you go ahead and get in line for the Randall or buy one on the secondary market. You'll be happier in the long run. If you settle for a [insert random knife model], you will always be telling yourself "yeah, it works, but it's not a Randall."

John, you might try looking at the thread in the knife sub forum. Tim Olt, our Michiganroadkill, is going to be releasing some very nice indeed, Bill Scagel themed knives. Steel is good, craftsmanship is excellent. Price is good.

KA Swearingen's Der Kamp knife... A little bigger than you requested, but he has several models. Forged, differential tempered 5160H...and a very, very sharp convex edge... http://www.swearingenknife.com/index.html

Sam, does Tim have a website.
Pat, those knives look great but are quite a bit above what I want to spend.

Made from forged 5160 and stabilized buckeye burl I sent to him. Contact him via email and strike up a conversation.

What about the Buck 124? This is one in comparison to the Buck 119 Special and the Buck "General":
America needs to understand that our troops are not 'disposable'. Each represents a family; Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts... Our Citizens are our most valuable treasure; we waste far too many.
