Well I had another great muley hunt with my father and my nephew hunted this year with us also. We had a great time as always and I can not waite for the next muley hunt !

Opening morning I got my nephew on a great heavy 3x3, "BUT" he ended up shooting low and missing the buck. So we kept hunting for a good buck for my nephew the rest of the first weekend (he only had weekends to hunt due to college and wrestling).

On Monday dad and I were back at it and were finding only smaller bucks and does. He was having a tough time keeping his finger off the trigger again this year. So when this little 4x4 came out just before dark it was on for my dad.

Tuesday dad and I went out in the morning and found only smaller bucks and does again. So dad decided to run his deer back to town. My mom wanted to do some walking, while dad was gone, and so I took her out. I did not find any deer on my walk, but did end up doing some predator control with the Ultra Mag on this little dog.

Wedesday found dad and I back out again. No luck in the morning, but then the cold and rain moved in. That evening the bigger bucks started showing themselves and I could not pass on this one.....

The rest of the week we spent relaxing and looking at deer until Saturday morning when my nephew was back with us. He ended up taking this buck just after sun up !

We had a blast !!

My son Jacob is the only one to have a third season tag in the family. He wanted to hold out, but not for a giant, he was just looking to better his last buck. He ended the hunt opening day evening with a neat buck.

Nice buck right there. You hunting a unit nearby? 30, 40, 62, 22?

I think I have enuff points for a shot a the Books (30) 2nd rifle this year, but would prefer a 3rd rifle (rut) hunt. Figure you might have some local knowledge.

Thanks much everyone for the great comments ! grin

MuskegMan,

That is a unit 40 buck ! If I was to do unit 30 I would hold out for 3rd season also. If you do draw the tag I would be more than happy to help you out no matter which season you end up going.

Sweet. Thx for the help offer. I may go back to the Gunny Basin and hunt there again.

How does that Barrel Deresonator on the RUM work for you?

elkkill2006,
Nice bucks! Looks like you guys had a great season.

Muskegman,
This year it took 4 nonresident points to draw Unit 30 2nd season and 10 points to draw 3rd season.

I've got 3 NR deer points and 5 NR elk points. I've hunted Unit 62 several times and killed a few deer and elk. Hoping to head out that direction again in the next year or two.
