for me anyway, that is unless I draw my Kaibab tag for Mule Deer-hey, it could happen.
It's this time of year when I start thinking about the upcoming fall/winter hunt season and everything that I need that I didn't have last year.
Let's see-theres the new (to me) custom 260 AI Mountain rifle that is begging for a lightweight fiber stock and develope a good- accurate load for it. Would like to get a new spotting scope but unsure of what will suit my needs best. Need new tires on the hunting rig, the other ones are just street tires and not the best choice for AZ two tracks in the desert, as I found out last year, albeit $235 later.

Bear season opens up here in a few weeks, OTC tags are readily available and I just happened to meet a guy the other day that wants to take me along to a secret spot that he has taken numerous medium sized bears from. That will be great if that works out.

Other than that, I'll see if I can't bag a few quail and maybe some doves, oh and can't forget about predator hunting. I'll also be tagging along on a bull Elk hunt in Oct.

Got my whitetail tag in the mail a couple of weeks ago. Too hot to shoot unless the wind is blowing, and then it's too windy..

Spent the last month loading up a bunch of stuff to try in the No. 1s (7x57, .338-06 and 9.3x74)--mostly good looking loads from the Campfire here. Also augmented my present supplies of handloads for a couple of whitetail rifles, several elk rifles, the two coyote rifles and the fun guns (the various vintage Win 94s and the Marlin 1893).

In the meantime I content myself by knocking off a jackrabbit or two as they come in the evenings to browse the ornamentals at the fringe of the yard.

Can't wait until dove season!

Hopefully we will have the AZ draw results by the 17th. You must be hoping for a December Coues tag like me.

Rabbit,

We applied for the season prior to the late hunt, it starts the day after Thanksgiving and runs for 5 or 6 days. The temps were moderate last year with lows in the 40s and day time highs reaching 80, I guess that is not bad compared to mid 90s.

What hunt area did you apply for?

Tacgnut,
I applied only for a Dec tag in 36. Last year, I picked up a leftover permit for the early Nov hunt. Aside from an evening hail storm on the hike out, the weather was nice. I did not see many bucks however.
