If ya get a proper Marlin without the extra stupid safety ya don't have to worry about any cut off date.

All Marlins made before Remington bought them out are marked "JM"... stands for "John Marlin" the founder of Marlin firearms.

The Remington made Marlins are not marked with the "JM" there has been a lot of poor workmanship with the Remington made Marlins not all but a lot.

So when someone says they are looking for a "JM" Marlin they mean before Remington started making them,the "JM" Marlins for the most part are better quality.

The "JM" is stamped on the barrel near the receiver.
