I have a 1979 Ruger No.1 A in 7X57 I have been thinking about selling. The metal is in real good condition and the stock has a few minor dings but not into the wood fibers. I bought it a few years ago from an old guy selling off his guns. What is the approximate value. Thanks!!

This is all relative. What is "real good condition" and "a few minor dings" to you might be perceived as heavy wear and use to someone else.

I would expect a NIB example to bring $750 to $800, but not sell quickly. Maybe within a month or two. One with mostly 100% bluing, but wear in the "usual" spots (like the lever), 100% wood finish, no box, etc. could probably bring $650 to $700, but again not quickly. If it's something you wanted to sell quickly, price it at $600.

I gave $700 for my 1A with original box, about 200 rounds of brass, Leupold Vari-XIIc 1x4, dies, and shipping in 2007. And I didn't have to fight anyone for it. I picked up my NIB RSI 7x57mm for $800 shipped in 2009, same deal. Yes, they're worth more than a comparably chambered or configured Model 77, but they're not worth any super premium.

i paid $760 for mine new, but i have to admit it's the one gun i own that i wouldn't sell. For some reason, to me it just seems like the right gun to hand down in 20 years. shoots sub MOA (till the barrel gets hot anyway) and handles like a dream.

One thing about No.1's, either you like them or you don't. The RSI probably takes this another step with both sides fairly passionate about their views.

I suspect that most resalers would be hesitant to put much more than 350-425 in it. No.1's can be hard for them to sell.
I would think that the retail market might stand 550+ or so on a good day, just my opinion.

One can look at auction sites for that particular rifle in their sold sections as a casual, general indicator. One site has over 125 no.1's in their offering listings, most with no bids; so that might be some indicator relative to pricing.

Think right now I would keep it with what you had in it if I could.

I'd be broke all the time from buying them for 500.

The RSI has always brought a slight premium over other configurations. 7X57 has recently demanded a slight premium.
Then again, the economy sucks lately, and a rifle worth $800 a few years ago might sell at $700 today.

Take some nice pictures, in the daylight, no white background, upload to Photobucket etc. and I would be surprised in 98% condition, you couldn't get $800.

Pictures, pictures, pictures are what sell a nice walnut used rifle. If there is nice figure in the stock, SHOW IT with some good pictures,

I rarely see a No.1 in a gun shop at any price.

I am with ya, you are not going to see a 7x57 for that in many markets.

The 7x57 will carry a bit of a premium if in an older rifle. I have two that were $1300 and $1500 respectively. I have since sold one (at a profit) and will never sell the other.

age and wood quality have as much to do with the price as anything

If in doubt start the auction on GB for the least you are willing to take for it and let the market see what the market will bring

I bought a 1993 RSI in 7x57 in like-new condition (not a mark or scatch on either the metal or the very nicely-figured original stock) with a fairly cheap 3-9x40 scope mounted on it.

I purchased the RSI in 2008 or 2009 for $800. The purchase price included a very nice, like-new, deluxe, heavy-duty aluminum carry case plus a box of factory-loaded cartridges. The original owner claimed that he had fired "less than 100 rounds through the rifle" since he bought it.

The original owner had to sell the RSI because he had found and wanted to buy an original SSA Colt for $2300 that was in a Colt collection that was being broken up and sold off, but he didn't have all the cash needed to buy the Colt... he was $800 short.

Since then, I've had a Kepplinger single-set trigger and a new, high-quality 4-12x40 A/O scope installed on the RSI which is still in like-new condition.

It is my favorite rifle... and a true "beauty". It just doesn't get "better" than a Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57mm... a truly classic rifle in a classic caliber!!! smile

Then maybe you two need to get out and LOOK a little more.

Lubbockdave sold his 1A 7x57mm on Gunbroker for $665 after NO ONE on this board expressed serious interest in buying: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=240819218

Here's a NIB RSI 7x57mm that ACTUALLY SOLD on Gunbroker for $767 with shipping: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=252665969

I know for a fact David Spiwak, a dealer in Pennsylvania, has had several No. 1s, including a 1B in .257 Roberts, sell for under $600 over the past eighteen months.

I see all of these ASKING prices in the $700 to $800 range for 7x57mm 1As and $800 to $900 range for 7x57mm RSIs, but I sure as hell don't see anyone fighting each other to buy them.

I looked at a #1-A in 7mm Mauser this week. Nothing special wood, unfired, no box, extension rings, 1 box ammo for $1050.

I passed on it. I may reconsider if the pricing can be adjusted.

There're a couple of dealers that run NIB No. 1s in 7x57mm -- in both 1A and RSI configurations -- all of the time for $900 and no takers

I wish I had some extra cash, I would make you an offer. However, there are probably many folks that could say the same right now. Do you need the money or just something different? Lately I have had a hard time getting anyone to bite on cash but have had decent luck trading.

Here's one in the classifieds for $750 shipped: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...s/5533241/FS_Ruger_1_in_7x57#Post5533241

It's been for sale since August with extras -- no takers.

With the dollar at par, it's worth looking at cutting the red tape and buying one in the States and importing it.

I just bought a SxS off GI. That was easier than I thought.
