anybody ever tried to weave their own packbasket out of ash strips. I'd like to see a photo if you have one.

No. Bean used to sell them pretty cheap, but the prices have risen a couple hundred percent over the past 20 - 30 years. If you're going to use a pack basket, the liners that Bean sells can be pretty useful.

There was a company making woven aluminum baskets that were light weight, durable and didn't hold scent for trapping.

I made a form and started making my own fiberglass packs for trapping as I was wearing out the wooden ones every couple of years, I still have one basket left but the forms I gave to a guy so he could make some for sale.
