I've got rl-15, h4831, h1000, h4350, 7828 around but am willing to expand the inventory if experience says there's a better place to start the workup

thanks!

I would try H4350 or R17.

Any particular bullet in mind?
RL-17 gives very good velocities ( about 100fps Better than anything else I have tried), although I struck out in the accuracy department.

If I were going to try a new gun or barrel, it would be on the top of my list.

I use IMR4350 for copper 168/165s and lead cored 180s but H4350 will probably work pretty much the same.
SamOlson, I've got some T-TSX's I'd like to try out first.

thanks for the suggestions...
65.5 grains of H4350 worked very well with the 168TTSX in my rifle. Right around 3020fps and very accurate.
My load is 67.5 grains of rl-17, using the 168 TTSX, WLMR primers. It chronos at 3150 fps, and is most times just under or just over an inch, at 200 yards. Very flat shooting and not a max load.

I could not get this accuracy nor velocity with the 165 TSX, at least in my rifle. Best group with the TSX in my rifle was 1.35" at 200 yards, at about 3100 fps. I think the TTSX design will be more reliable in smaller calibers than the TSX design as well, at least in my experience shooting hogs, a couple of deer and one elk (so far.)

I have found RL 15 and a 168gr Berger to be outstandingly accurate out of at least one 300 WSM. Since you already have the powder, you really need to try it. Good luck.
I have found Magpro powder to work extremely well. Getting very tight groups, and velocities right where they should be. Still a grain or two below max, too.
Magpro is by far my favorite powder for the WSM's, but RL-19 works very well with the 168TSX in the 300WSM. H4350 is a great place to start since you have it on hand. Like the 30-06, it's tough to find a powder that doesn't work well in the 300WSM, just some better than others.
thanks for the suggestions guys!
IMR 4831 works best in my 300 wsm, tried RL 17 and gained only about 20 fps, accuracy was about equal.

My choices (in that order) as well.

That Sammer's a smart feller laugh
I've been paying attention.....(grin)
I have found the Nosler Partition with 65g. of IMR4350 work great in my gun.
When the cartridge first came out I used R22 with the 165 gr bullet and was pretty consistently at about 3125 from a couple of M70 FW's.

Recently I used 66-H4350 165 gr Sierra in an FN FW; I never clocked it but accuracy was very good.
i use imr 4350 and imr 4064 under 165 sierra spbt's in one and 150 tsx's in the other.

A friend of mine uses Ramshot- Hunter with good results.
69.0grs of Winchester WXR or Reloader-22 gives me the best groups,65.0grs of IMR-4350 also works quite well with 165gr bullets in my 300WSM.
I think this thread is starting to tell us something. The 300 WMS is like the '06, and to a certain extent the .308 - a bunch of combinations work. And a bunch of those can show some excellent results. Probably the reason so many who try the 300 WSM like it so much. It should be with us for a long while.
Mine liked RL 19 under the 165 scirocco. Never clocked it but accuracy was between 1/2 to 3/4 inch

I use 300WSM data for my 300 H&H since there is no data for this caliber in modern powders. Mine really like Hunter as well. My second choice is H4350.
could the advice in this thread be applied to a 7mm wsm using sierra gameking 160 gr. spbt?
My powder choices in 300 WSM:

150's 68 gr's W760
165's 65 gr's H4350
180's 65 gr's RL17

Have tried (other than listed): H4831, Imr 4831, Imr7828, Imr 4350, RL 22, H414, RL 25, Imr 4320 & Imr 4064. The worst group of any of these many bullet/powder combinations was 1.5".
I had good luck with H4350 and 165 gr SGKs in my 300wsm. I'm using 4831sc in my 7wsm with good results and they are pretty close.
thank you DocGlenn...... wyo.
I recently tried W760 and H4831sc... as in all other calibers I have, 4831sc worked the best
