your opinions sought...

I've got rl-15, h4831, h1000, h4350, 7828 around but am willing to expand the inventory if experience says there's a better place to start the workup

thanks!

I would try H4350 or R17.

Any particular bullet in mind?

RL-17 gives very good velocities ( about 100fps Better than anything else I have tried), although I struck out in the accuracy department.

If I were going to try a new gun or barrel, it would be on the top of my list.

I use IMR4350 for copper 168/165s and lead cored 180s but H4350 will probably work pretty much the same.

65.5 grains of H4350 worked very well with the 168TTSX in my rifle. Right around 3020fps and very accurate.

My load is 67.5 grains of rl-17, using the 168 TTSX, WLMR primers. It chronos at 3150 fps, and is most times just under or just over an inch, at 200 yards. Very flat shooting and not a max load.

I could not get this accuracy nor velocity with the 165 TSX, at least in my rifle. Best group with the TSX in my rifle was 1.35" at 200 yards, at about 3100 fps. I think the TTSX design will be more reliable in smaller calibers than the TSX design as well, at least in my experience shooting hogs, a couple of deer and one elk (so far.)

I have found RL 15 and a 168gr Berger to be outstandingly accurate out of at least one 300 WSM. Since you already have the powder, you really need to try it. Good luck.

I have found Magpro powder to work extremely well. Getting very tight groups, and velocities right where they should be. Still a grain or two below max, too.

Magpro is by far my favorite powder for the WSM's, but RL-19 works very well with the 168TSX in the 300WSM. H4350 is a great place to start since you have it on hand. Like the 30-06, it's tough to find a powder that doesn't work well in the 300WSM, just some better than others.

IMR 4831 works best in my 300 wsm, tried RL 17 and gained only about 20 fps, accuracy was about equal.

When the cartridge first came out I used R22 with the 165 gr bullet and was pretty consistently at about 3125 from a couple of M70 FW's.

Recently I used 66-H4350 165 gr Sierra in an FN FW; I never clocked it but accuracy was very good.

69.0grs of Winchester WXR or Reloader-22 gives me the best groups,65.0grs of IMR-4350 also works quite well with 165gr bullets in my 300WSM.

I think this thread is starting to tell us something. The 300 WMS is like the '06, and to a certain extent the .308 - a bunch of combinations work. And a bunch of those can show some excellent results. Probably the reason so many who try the 300 WSM like it so much. It should be with us for a long while.

Mine liked RL 19 under the 165 scirocco. Never clocked it but accuracy was between 1/2 to 3/4 inch
