Looking for a good starting powder for 140 grain Barnes ttsx.
I have had great results with H4831SC and the 140gr. Accubond. Matter of fact, Nosler's minimal load is very accurate, shoots flat and is easy on the shoulder.
i'm running 56.0 grains of imr4350 in mine under a 140 ttsx.
not a hard load, but i get just over 3100 fps in my 26 inch barrel.
shoots great, and ain't stressin nuthin.
i tried the campfire load of n165, and blew a primer. had enough of that.
Must always work up your loads.
Never take a load off the net as the gospel..
My .280's (and a 7x64) have liked IMR 4350 at 56 or 57 grains with 140 grainers of all sorts.
Don't know why that wouldn't be a safe starting point for an AI...
I would start with Hod 4831SC. I'm a big fan of 160 gr bullet in the 280 AI over the lighter bullets.
Reloader 19-59.5 to 63.0. 3200fps w/140's. RL19 has less pressure per volume versus some other powders. powdr
+1 for N165. I used 63.5 with the 140.
That's the exact bullet (and only one) I shoot in my 280 AI.
Try RL22 and you won't be disappointed.
What are you guys using for brass? R-P?
Nosler 280AI here.
They seem to be well made and I haven't trashed one yet.
nosler and fireformed r-p nickle.
Noticed Shooters Pro Shop has Nosler Custom 280 Rem brass factory 2nds on sale for $24.95. So I bought some for a future rifle...
Nosler brass, and R-22 works great for me.
Not too hip on nosler today.....was shootin 140 accubonds from my 280AI and all was well. Ordered another box and the ogive is .050 deeper on this batch?
