Nicely organized, well-worded ad with good pictures for an item I would love to have. You’re becoming a rarity on CL. Figures that you would be 2k miles away. GLWTS.
If only we were about 2,000 miles closer your jeep would have a new home in my garage. Miss my old '63 flat fender.

That is so true!
Trying to give the campfire guys a leg up over a local sale, knowing it would require some logistics to ship.
Hard to think your selling your Jeep! I just sold my 2002, but picked up a 2011, should sell quick, im thinking!
Dang if this had the 6 cylinder instead of the 4 it would be gone. Nice Jeep.

Small block Chevy will bolt up!
Bringatrailer.com might be another good place to post it if CL doesn’t bring a qualified buyer.
Very nice indeed. Mine is an '84 model v6 and it is USED but nice and NOTHING like yours! Well done and good luck on sale! My wife goes before my CJ! Oh my her initials are the same!

Probably a straight six
Jeep never used a straight six.
uh, but they did use a straight 6.
Starting in 1972 Jeep added 4 inches to the CJ-5's so they could fit in either the 232 cu in or 258 cu in Straight Six.
Back then I had a 72 Renegade but oped for the AMC V8 304 cu in.
Bump to a sweet rig.
Pretty good bear hunting truck. You can hang out the doors in low range and check the road for tracks LOL.
Sweeeeet Ride. I was born in '81 and it has aged way better than me!.
OK, I stand corrected. A nice Jeep.
After working in the dirt all day, it's nice to jump in the Jeep and run down get the mail at the post office. Makes the day a little more worth doing. It's got one of those magnets on the dash, "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand".
Sometimes it's the small things that help you get outside yourself. I've really enjoyed it.
If only we were about 2,000 miles closer your jeep would have a new home in my garage. Miss my old '63 flat fender.
It's 2000 miles of driving bliss when you're in a Jeep in the summer.
Damn fine jeep, I bet there arent many low mileage Jeeps around like that.
I am a 3rd gen 4runner guy BUT that is so damn sweet!

My CJ-7 had a straight 6.
258ci = great engine it was. I had an older American Motors with the same engine.
That is a really sweet Jeep.

Why not pay for a transport? My F250 was shipped Amarillo to Houston for $500.
God bless that is nice. Good luck with your sale.
Thanks everyone. It's a fun little Jeep to toodle around in.
I am a 3rd gen 4runner guy BUT that is so damn sweet!
I'm building a Toyota truck for hunting, something capable that I can beat on. The Jeep is too nice to scratch up.

Bump for a very nice example of a CJ5.....I have an 82 CJ7
uh, but they did use a straight 6.
I had a 1964 wagon and the engine was a Hurricane straight six.
Now I see why you are parting with those very fine 99's. Good luck with your sale and build.

There's a method to my madness. 3 sold so far.
You have nice things. You take care of them. Bought a rifle from this guy. It was better than he described.
Bump for a good lookin jeep.
I have a 73' cj5 with about 89,000 on the odometer. I think it was the last year with the straight windshield and the first year with the AMC 304 8 cyl.
I've had in storage for about the last twenty five years.
The market seems to be starting to appreciate them more.
I agree to buy your product for full price I will have transport pick it up then pay through paypal .

Had someone send me a fake cashiers check for $3300 for a Datsun 280Z. Tow truck will be right over, any leftover money from the check just give it to him in cash. Yeah right.
Someone needs this in their garage.

If I'm not mistaken the 4 cyl used in these jeeps was called the iron duke....a Chevy engine...this combo with 4 speed would be very desirable to me...more than adquate power for a stock jeep....and econimacal....most dont like them as the first thing they do is lift it and put on swampers...had an iron duke in a little Pontiac car... It had a holly 2 barrel with a vacume secondary....that little car was fast...and got 40 mpg...
You want to do some interesting reading there's a guy that put the marine version of the iron duke in his Jeep and went from 82 HP to 150. I don't remember where I found it but I was just Googling around one day. Had to make quite a few modifications to make it work but he got it.
Just drove it down to the market for a soda. Living large.

My understanding as well. Chevy Vega used an aluminum block. Supposed to have been "silicon" treated or something. Piston rings ate up the aluminum in a hurry. Pontiac Sunbird came out with the "iron duke" 4 cylinder based on the cast iron block. Had a VERY strong reputation for reliability and durability. Cool ride. GLWYS !
$10K makes you a Jeep owner. Deer lay down near Jeeps.

The GM151 is not the Pontiac Iron Duke, common misconception.
The GM151 was used in the S10 and Citation and I have also heard the Marine longblock is a direct swap for the GM151 although I have not known or even read about anyone doing it. The GM151 as noted earlier uses the same bellhousing as SBC but if I remember correctly, you need a starter out of a late 80's Camaro, flywheel tooth count being the problem.
I had a 350 bolted up to the T177 in my CJ7 in place of the GM113 but decided to go with a 4.2.
Very nice CJ5 and worth 10K, I could not leave it stock but that's me.
Nice Jeep, Nice Buck & Nice 99!
Lay some deer down this year, buy a CJ.
I'm a bit surprised this is still available, as nice as it is.
"It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand".
I saw this bumper sticker on a Liberty Jeep. I laughed my as* off.
Nice rig. You will sell it quick i'm sure.
Hasn't been detailed. Just clean as is.
If you lived closer to the Maine/NB border, I'd take it. Shipping would be expensive. I checked.

That would be one looooooooooong 3300 miles in that JEEP from Oregon to New Brunswick, Canada. I'd be driving a wheelchair by the time I got home.

Shoulda quartered it
My other brother Daryl drives a Scout but he's an azzhole.
You could be driving this in the mountains today instead of sitting in front of your computer wishing you were outside.
Roy your going to Miss it! 2 weeks ago Id have got on a plane, and drove it back home! but have a 2011 in the drive now!
I did 800 miles one day in it. True story.
What is top speed on good road? I had a CJ7 6cyl 3 speed back in the day that would top out around 65mph. Didn't want t push it more than that.
Yeah you don't ever want to do 90 in a CJ5, so keep it to highway speeds. I drive slow on purpose and tend to take backroads whenever possible because that's how I roll. 65 is no problem, but I'm a 35-40 kind of guy, mucho relaxing.
oh man, a beaut,,,,
I have had three jeeps - a '78 CJ-5 with the 258, a '81 CJ-5 with the 304, and a '84 CJ-8 with a 258,,,,,all left me for various reasons related to military service over the years,,,,swore when I sold the CJ-8 in 2000 that I wouldn't buy another,,,,but that bad boy is so TEMPTING!!
to bad I'm broke
This Jeep belongs in the mountain west, in your garage.
You could be driving this in the mountains today instead of sitting in front of your computer wishing you were outside.
Unfortunately around here it's pushing 112-115 degrees outside in the afternoons. Kind of warm.
You wankers missed out. The Jeep is now sold.
