He wasn't Karl.
Billy Bob Thonton was Carl, the main character and a bit retarded.

And I'm sure it was spelled Carl.

Only smart Karls know how to spell the name

Karl
(Not from the movie)

Somewhere there’s a version of this with him explaining how he came to right it. But basically it’s just as he sang it.

I saw him in concert at a fair. Suzy Bogguss opened for him and had to play an extra hour and a half until Dwight sobered up enough to get on stage.

Once he was up there, he couldn't hardly stand, let alone sing.

Interesting tidbit, we share the same pant size.

And I only know this because following a local concert one of his groupies told me that he loves to go pike fishing. I was on the Montana pike circuit that summer and even the groupies knew I was hell on pike.

Anywhoo, I take Dewhite pike fishing and he flat slayed the pike. Last cast of the day and he boats an 85lb pike that fought like hell. Dewhite chit his pants when he saw how big the pike was and of course I offered him my pants and he said they fit great.

And he’s credited with giving Buck Owens a second career later in life.

His live shows were awesome back when Pete Anderson was still his lead guitar player and Producer.
Pet played a mean Telecaster and also co-wrote quite a few of Dwight’s biggest hits.

Got to meet several of his band members once after a concert. Nice guys all.

PREZACTLY!!!

He said once he was heavily influenced by both Buck Owen & Elvis Presley.

Definitely one of my favorites.

A touch of Tejano.

Yoakam accompanied Sharon Stone as her date to the 1992 Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California, wearing his signature cowboy hat. But things didn't end well for the couple and they called it quits shortly after. Yoakam kept quiet on his relationship with the starlet, but Stone had no problem telling everyone that kissing Yoakam was like a "dirt sandwich."Their brief affair was over almost as quickly as it had started.

He played a show where I work almost 20 years ago. He arrived on his own bus, wasn't travelling with his band. Arrived at last minute, got off the bus, played, got back on the bus and was gone. His bus driver holding doors for him, came across as arrogant. Not much of a fan.
