I rotate several. Some are for dress or special occasions like church and social functions. I do have a Ken Onion like the one in the picture. Started carrying in first grade when I was six. Got Dad’s old 3 blade Case pocketknives. I remembered in 3 rd grade being asked who had a pocketknife that day she selected 3 of us, pulled her trash can in center, and had us pull a chair from the reading circle. Mrs Martin then called for students in row 1 to bring unsharpened pencils to us. The POS pencil sharpeners mounted on the bookcase only ground up your pencils. Very practical and smart lady who I had the honoring of teaching with later in life. Usually carried a Case Trapper in HS and Army Basic. Lost it in the pits and had it returned by DI. He also killed 2 wild turkeys on the firing range while we were policing brass. I was the only redneck who knew how to clean them. Sgt Davidson was a 6’4” black LURP and we got along fine even tho I was a Mississippi Delta boy and he had trained my 2 brothers previously. A great warrior. I carried a Spyderco Delica that my LEO son took off a black. It had a broken tip and molded in clip. I sent in to factory and had it fixed carried for 30 years. Lost when I got Covid and put in ICU, speciality hospitals and nursing home. Got 3 Benchmades, Ontario Rat 1, neck knives and Swiss Army, Browning and Buck. Find a lot in pawn shop and clean up. I also make hunting fixed blade knives from old files and saw blades. I cut stuff. I hunt and fish and cook. I dress my food and have eaten real fast food - deer, ducks, doves, rabbits and squirrel.

Day to day, 3 sort of. For a very long time I've carried a .. well, not always the same one, wore 2 out .. Gerber LST, 2nd to smallest size. Earlier ones had pretty decent steel, current ones I'm not so happy with but WTF it'll cut cardboard and tape thus saving the edge of my other knives for more important things. "Sort of" is a Leatherman Micra with a fairly tiny blade. It cuts fairly well. I've gutted salmon up to 30 pounds with it. Those are "in pocket" knives. Newest addition is a Benchmade Mini Bugout which hangs on the inside of my pocket by its clip. I had a full sized Bugout (still do, but don't EDC with it, it's in a small pack) but it proved too long for pocket carry and dug into me if I bent forward.

Day to day .. if I'm hiking .. I usually add a Cold Steel SRK or Master Hunter depending on which day pack I grab.
Posted By: Leanwolf Re: What's your EDC knife.? - 03/19/24
A Camillus Stockman my father gave me in 1953. The stag scales are worn smooth, but it still "walks and talks" like a new pocketknife. Razor sharp, too.

I will up these plus one with +1 more.

Hard to beat Kershaw clips. I carried a scallion but went to the smaller Chive for EDC. All American made Ken Onion designs. I never liked knives buried deep in my front pocket and went to smaller Case knives that could fit in the coin pocket. I evolved into smaller clip carries and won't look back. I like being able to open a knife with one hand even if wearing leather gloves. Convenient.
I lost a blue chive and can't find another in blue. I got a replacement in silver as a Christmas gift from my daughter and didn't feel guilty about asking for one at that price.

I got you beat. This has been my EDC knife since the early 1980s. Hardly a day goes by when I don't use it for something. When it gets dull, it sharpens razor sharp again with ease.

Gerber lockblade:

It's not a tiny knife (2.5" blade). It just looks tiny next to that giant moth.

I have a bunch and depending on my mood and where I'm carrying it could be one of at least a dozen. But if forced to pick one it would be the Hogue Deka.

https://smkw.com/hogue-deka-tumble-clip-blk-g10

We were in Boston last summer and I chose to bring this one in case I had to "lose" it. They are about the best cheap knife I've used. And I thought I was going to lose it. We were in line to see the USS Constitution. I didn't think about a metal detector there, but it set it off. I pulled it out and gave it to the Sailor working security. He looked it over and said, "That's not a knife". Keep it in your pocket and have a good day.

Adimanti Neformat 02. A buddy sent it to me as a birthday present. Never been a big knife guy but I love this thing. Im sure it’s Chinesium but shows made by Ganzo. Keeps a good edge. I carried a Buck Prince for years.
Buck 845 Vantage Force
Schrade Slyte
Kershaw Leek
Case Sod Buster
Kershaw Chive

All reasonably priced USA made knives of decent quality. Here, as it is with scopes, it is easy to avoid crap made in communist China. The Schrade and the Kershaws open like butter. I like the part serrated part non on the Buck. The Slyte is thinner than the Kershaws. I wish it had a sharper point, but am pleased with it. The Sod Buster I have for sentimental reasons.

For several years, a Steel Will Cutjack Amazon link

It lays flat and flips out easily, unlocks and folds up easily. The clip has held up really well, better than several brands. The D2 blade has been great.

For the clip knife, having a clip to be carried top of pocket or the belt it's a Kershaw link lately. Spyderco, Benchmade & Cold Steel have served.

For the actual pocket knife, a simple 2 plus blade utility tool that lays in the bottom of my pocket there have many, including Case, Boker German Eye, Hen & Rooster, mirroring my Dad or grandpa I've carried most of them. After discovering the Victorinox brand of Swiss army knives I never looked back. I keep a backup or 2. Not gonna be without.

A couple of favorites of mine, Boker W.C. Davis Hunter II's, the lockback in burgundy linen micarta and S30V, the slipjoint in green canvas micarts and N690. I also carry some older slipjoints, typically cattle knives or scout knives, sometimes copperheads.

On my belt everyday is a Buck Lite lock blade knife I bought in 1985. Still carried in the original canvas belt pouch that came with it. Can't believe I never lost it. Use it to gut deer, and otherwise just keep it on my belt for when I need a moderately heavy spined knife for something.

In my pocket is a old small 2 bladed Imperial for normal everyday things like cutting strings, boxes open, etc. Also use that pocket knife to cut the scent sacks off of deer as I like to remove them first thing before gutting, and always do it with a separate knife than what I use for gutting.

I carried a Leatherman Wave for many years. When I retired, I no longer needed a big heavy thing like that. I ended up with a little Buck 363, 2" blade. It's not high dollar by any means but it does take a decent edge. It's too small for real work but for my use, it does the job. It came as a set with a larger 365. I carry that one when I'm doing things that might require a larger knife. It has a belt clip and slips right into a back pocket. It's easy to forget it's there and it's been through the wash dozens of times. It handles water very well.

In my pocket, it's either a Spyderco PM2 in S30V, or a Buck 112 Slim.

For woodswalking I prefer a fixed blade on my belt, an ESEE 3 gets the nod.
I switch things around a good bit, but my favorite is an Uncle Henry 897. I never met a pocket knife I didn’t like.
I've carried a Kershaw Blur exclusively for the last 18 or so years. For me they are the perfect carry companion. Like them so much I have a back up for my backup. Prefer the older model handles that have the stippled aluminum texturing on the handle over the new rubber insert models.

After seeing many mixed reviews on the D2 Ontario Rats, I bought mine in Aus 8. The reviewers I watched said the Aus 8 did just as good as their D2 and it is definitely more rust resistant to D2.

How well has your Rat D2 been holding an edge and has it been easy to keep from rusting? I almost bought the D2 version.

Yeah, that's what I figured it was. I hate those huge green worms. There are worse worms on your tomatoes, though, since the tomato worms are pretty easy to spot, and tend to leave the actual tomatoes alone. Just a matter of checking a couple times a day till their season is over.

Kershaw Leek - does good work while also being inexpensive enough where you don't mind using it like a tool.
Buck 110 auto in a sheath and a Case trapper "peanut" in my pocket.

I don't know where these mixed reviews come from, but IMHO they are full of something that smells. Mine are holding up just fine with zero rust. I doubt these reviewers even own one.

I simply asked how you like your's in D2. As for where I saw mixed reviews about D2, there are several on Youtube. Some of which come from knowledgeable reviewers. Glad your D2 knives are doing well. That's all I was asking about.

"Knowledgeable reviewers" often have their own axe to grind. Don't be butthurt. There was no intent.

I love the Gerber brass frame knives but I've been carrying a leatherman Squirt and a Rough Rider lately.
Wouldn't be heart broken if I lost either.

The Leek is getting a lot of love in this thread.

Mines from about 85 as well.
It's gutted a deer or two along the way.

Lee Williams design.
This is where I was before the leek.

Very similar to the leek .

No longer in production.
They actually made a baby version of this thing.
Just doesn't feel as good as the leek now.

LD,

I have a R2 in D2 and love it but there are some videos of them going side by side with Aus-8 in rope cutting and they are very close. Might be phony but I don't think so.

I've had my d2 version be covered in surface rust after a day of rail hunting in the salt. Nothing major but it needs cleaned up at the end of the day.

I've tried hard to like the Fallkniven.

But no clip and not a one hander at all.
Doesn't get used much.

Dude,

Sorry to hear you had problems like that. Mine has been busy doing a lot of box cutting and plastics cutting. Some wire stripping, but not much. Haven't experienced that rust problem. Not yet, anyway.

Have probably another half dozen Bolt Actions stashed in center consoles/glove boxes, boats, etc.

I have a Kershaw Leek in S30V, but don't carry it much anymore. I've been disappointed in its edge holding ability. The factory edge does appear to be ground at a pretty shallow angle, so maybe sharpening at a steeper angle will help.

Nowadays, the Rat 2 in D2 or this one from LA Police Gear in S35VN are my go-to:
