Was a longtime Milwaukee guy and never had a problem with a battery that wasn't just worn completely out. Worked my last 10 years in a facility that used and bought all Dewalt cordless tools. I bought a few Dewalt things to use at work and take advantage of the batteries they provided When I retired I brought the Dewalt stuff I bought home, but had no batteries, so last year I strted off with a couple of 3ah batteries and a charger. One battery charged, the other flashed fast red then wnt to amber and stopped charging. Took the bad one back and traded it for another. And got another bad battery. Third trip the clerk dug a charger out and we tested batteries in the store til I left with a good one.
Fast forward to this week. I'm moving soon and will need a few homeowner tools again. Found a set of 4 dewalt batteries on sale for $159. Two 4ah, and two 2ah in each box. Got themn home and started charging. Both 2ah batteries charged perfectly. Both 4ah batteries flashed "BAD" on the charger. Called the store and took just the bad batteries back. They broke a package open and set me up with 2 new 4ah units and I took them home and put them, one at a time, on the charger Both bad again. Called the store, and took them back.
Tested through two more packages and put them on a charger, in store, til we found 2 batteries that indicated "GOOD"
I'm grateful that the store did this for me, but what a pain in the ass. Never had problems with Dewalt batteries at work, but I never got batteries still in package. They were all opened and tagged as company equip before I saw them.
Is this a regular thing? Were these batteries priced this way because of a known issue?

. Never had a problem like that. My company stuff is Milwaukie and my personal stuff is mostly Makita. I think they are the best two with Makita taking a slight lead because of their extensive tool inventory. I'm done with Dewalt products.

I use alot of Default stuff myself,never heard of that happening. Stay away from the offshoots on Fleaybay,I have tried that route and it didn't work out so well.
What were the date codes on the bad ones? Any chance it was a bad run?
How cold was it when you were trying to charge them? If it was below 32F, that could cause problems. Li batteries won't charge in the cold. Some chargers and some batteries will shut down until they warm up.

The date codes on what I have here now are all from 2023. I'd guess that the ones I took back were the same.
Bad Run? It happened last fall with a pair of 3ah batteries, purchased separately, and again today with several 4ah units sold as part of a set.
Got one of the latest 4ah units charging now and it looks to be going ok.
I will say that every single battery I used at work was a 5ah unit. What I bought last fall were both 3ah. Todays are 2ah, with no issues, and 4ah with several issues.

How cold was it when you were trying to charge them? If it was below 32F, that could cause problems. Li batteries won't charge in the cold. Some chargers and some batteries will shut down until they warm up.
Outside temps today were in the high 50s, and I only had them outside for maybe 15 minutes, tops. Got them in my place, to charge, and the thermostat is at 68. Store felt like mid 60s or so.
I had to return one last summer for the same reason. Must have been a bad batch. I was going to try and jump start them as per YouTube but decided that I shouldn't have to do that to a new battery.

Have only had DeWalt since about 95. Have never had a bad battery from them. Probably guessing 20 batteries over the years maybe. Probably can find 10 right now.

I have seen all kinds of complaints about Dewalt batteries. I went with Milwaukee because I had some trouble with Dewalt corded tools and got f'ed on a warranty, I am glad they f'ed me on the warranty because I now have the absolute best cordless tools on the market.
I'm still using Milwaukee batteries from the first set I bought back in 2012.

Every Dewalt charger has an indicator for "bad"
Yup... As indicated above, I've done this once or 2wice...
When the light flashes red very fast, and the yellow comes on as well, at normal room temperature, that indicates "bad"
Also, when the power check indicator shows 2 lights and the red goes solid indicating charging is complete within a second of a new battery being placed on a charger, according to Dewalt the battery is "bad", and will not take a charge.
Successfully charged both of the latest 4ah batteries tonight...
Hey man, there is something diff with the new batteries that require a newer charger. Even if they charge with the old charger it won’t be to full capacity.
The knock offs are reacting the same way.
It has something to do with the newer “lifepro” or something like that battery type.

Note in the above image, I stuck with the older style battery packs. The charger that I have came with an XR style battery in the package.
I bought the ones on E-Bay and they work just like the original Dewalt batteries did. I have had them for almost two years with no problems. They are made in the USA also.
probably three or four years ago probably three I bought a Milwaukee 18 volt grease gun. got home unboxed everything hooked up the battery would not charge.
I was further irritated and going to take it back at the first opportunity. I got the digging on the internet and learned about the jump starting these batteries. the theory behind it is it needs so much voltage to indicate to the charger to charge the battery. these batteries actually have a circuit board inside. so I dug out a Kobalt 20 volt battery that's the appropriate positives and negatives and the wires and hooked "bad" Milwaukee battery to the fully charged Kobalt battery and left it hooked up for like 30 seconds maybe a minute. then the battery proceeded to charge just fine after that.
it has been charged and discharged many times since then but lately it has not charging correctly again . so maybe that battery was not quite right to start with anyway I don't know for sure I just wore it out...

I can't say this for sure but check what kind of battery charger you have. Years ago I had a full Craftsman 19.2 volt set and after several years the Nicad batteries started to die. I went to Sears and they now had Lithium-Ion 19.2 batteries. I bought 3 of them but was told I would need a new battery charger as the one I had would only charge Nicad batteries. I bought the new charger and never had a problem. Could it be you are trying to charge Lithium-Ion batteries on a Nicad charger? I'm throwing this out as a possibility but I could be off base.
FYI--I use Ryobi 18V One-plus stuff now (The 20 year old Craftsman stuff was passed onto my son who still has and uses them) and I have never known or heard of any of my friends to have any issues with their batteries--to include the off brand ones bought off of Ebay.
Ive run dewalt for years. Have had 1 battery fail, 6ah battery. Right out of the package. Called dewalt and they processed and sent me out another. Havent had anything but good luck to this point with dewalt
We probably have about a dozen dewalt batteries ranging from two to nine ah and from about 15 to .5 years old. So far, all still work fine. Haven't had a bad one yet.
