What year is your Kaywoodie?
Mine is the same year as me. '70-'71catalog, bought NOS.
Whataya smoke in it?
Most of mine date from the 50’s and 60’s. Think I have two from the 30’s. Have to look. Lately I’ve been smoking a lot of Captain Black Original. I inherited a bunch of it. Also been smoking some Dunhill Standard Mixture Mellow and Ole Shenandoah Single Cask.
For pipes, been smoking my clays and German Jägerpfeifes a lot lately.
Nice.
Cool pipes. Got inspired by your pic from another thread. The pipe got comments. And the muttonchops, lol.
I'll bet you have some great stories.
Hard to beat good ol' Captain Black.
Well, I have stories. But as to their greatness,,,,, I dunno???
I think that pipe in that photo is a Cavanelli ???
Gosh I miss a pipe, gave it up along with cigars when & slammed down the cigs.
But a Comoy or 2 were my faves. Captain Black my go to store bought, but a local tobacconist' enhanced version was was such a treat I bought it 8 ozs. at a time.
I liked Borkum Riff, but CB ruled. Few disagreed.
My last Kaywoodie acquisition. A 13b "Author". (1950-1972). Was at the local junkatoriom where ranch boss has a booth. A whopping $12 with the stand! It was one of the firms most popular models.
This is when I miss ol Field Grade!!! He was a Kaywoodie aficionado!!!! He had quite the collection.
Captain Black - and Dutch Amphora - was buying those as far back as 1970.
I think I will start smoking a kaywoodie pipe.

Mark,
I think Dudley and I are going to the big gathering at Hacienda de los Martinez in Taos. First weekend in June. We’ll be doing survey demos.
Will be in touch!
Bob

I have been around Bob quite a bit over several years, and you will have to work overtime to be as cool as Bob. miles
You've got that right, Miles! Good morning!
Bob, are you bringing the boss, also?
Have time to spend on the Santa Fe Trail?
As cool as a shepherd from the frozen windswept prairie?
Haha!

Cool as a well driller in the same habitat, Big Jim!
My father had a couple of Kaywoodie pipes. I don't know all of the brands of tobacco he smoked, but the names Borkum Riff and Mac Baren come to mind.

One of these days.
Got a broody hen on half a dozen eggs in a dog kennel in the spare bathroom and still got to take down a windmill if we ever get a decent afternoon. Stupid wind . . .
I think I will start smoking a kaywoodie pipe.

The first one is free . . .
Not a collector. Yet, lol.
Never been a pipe smoker but I have all my Grandfather's pipes, ashtrays and small table he stored all his smoke paraphialia in. 45 years after his death still smell like a smoke shop in the undertable storage cabinet.
Great Uncle used to smoke Velvet or PA.
I used to love that smell when I was little.
When yoy could buy it Flying Dutchman was mild.

What awesome momentos! Very nice!
My favorite pipe at events! Really starts the conversations!
When I smoked a pipe, and rolled cigarettes, mostly it was Velvet I used.
Wabi, I believe Flying Dutchman is still available
You are welcome to it Bob, I move on from smoking.

That's cooler than the aforementioned well driller's nether regions.
Mine is a low-end Fine Line, NOS. Still had a $7.95 price tag on the stem. Might look for a Flame Grain, see if it's different (better). I like the stinger thing, pretty cool, pun intended.
