In deference to the grieving and fatigue so close to the "Ground zero" of this loss to S.E. Cochise County, I think it's time to put up a different thread. Mudhen, thanks for spearheading the initial thread, and please know that our thoughts and prayers are with alla' you.

So, it begins, and there'll be no keeping a "Lid" on this one.
Mud's absolutely correct, a "Media Circus" it will be.

I'd encourage you all to focus on those reports spooled up close to the epicenter,.....In Arizona, by Az. folks. I can see the "National" media outlets spinning this already.

This is not "all about anger", at this time........there's a tremendous sense of sadness, a reflection of so many of us knowing that something like this was coming.

Will the murder of Arizona rancher be the tipping point?
March 30, 9:49 PMImmigration Reform ExaminerDave Gibson

Murdered Arizona rancher Rob Krentz
Fox News

Last weekends murder of rancher Rob Krentz by an illegal alien is receiving widespread media coverage, and prompting calls for troops to be stationed along the Mexican border, even from open-borders politicians.

While thousands of American citizens are killed every year in this country by illegal aliens, either during the commission of another crime, or drunk driving accidents, all equally outrageous--this one seems to have truly struck a nerve.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has asked President Obama to send troops to the border, saying Krentzs murder was a horrible and unnecessary tragedy.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), who has long been a proponent of amnesty released a statement on Sunday saying that all options should be on the table, including placing the National Guard on the border.

Even Sen. John McCAin (R-AZ), co-author of so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and annual keynote speaker at the La Raza conference, wrote a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, imploring her to defend our border with Mexico, by sending troops to the border immediately.

McCain wrote: The federal government must do all it can within its power to curb this violence and protect its citizens from criminals coming across the border from Mexico. We must make the security of our borders one of our top national security priorities.

Perhaps, if politicians such as Jon McCain had been working for the American people, instead of illegal aliens and those who exploit their willingness to work for slave wages, we would not now be mourning the loss of yet another fellow American at the hands of an illegal alien.

For many years, the Republicans wanted to keep the border open to fill the country with cheap labor, which benefits business owners by undercutting wages for everyone. The Democrats have sought to keep the border unprotected to bring in millions of potential new voters, which is why that party pays so much lip service to the plight of illegal aliens.

Whether they seek workers willing to work for sub-standard wages, or voters who will keep them in powerIt is the American people who have been sold-out by both parties.

For years now, every time I hear that a family has been attacked, or a child has been killed by an illegal alien, I think this must be the tipping point. There are certain dates in this ongoing tragedy which stand out more than others.

Such as on June 22, 2008, when three members of the Bologna family were gunned down by Salvadoran national and MS-13 gang member Edwin Ramos. Tony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16 were shot to death by Ramos with an AK-47 as they sat in their car on a crowded street, in the citys Excelsior District.

Or on September 10, 2008, the day the parents of 3-year-old Marten Kudlis buried their son at Fairmount Cemetery, while waiting for his ice cream in a Denver Baskin and Robbins.

Guatemalan national Francis Hernandez slammed into a pickup truck, which was then pushed into the ice cream shops window. The toddler was sitting at a table in front of that window, and was sent flying as the truck came crashing through it.

However, as tragic as those aforementioned events were, they did not force our elected officials to follow the rule of law, and stand up for Americans.

This nation sits on the brink of an economic meltdown, while our cities are becoming hunting grounds for predatory criminals. We have enough problems in this country without importing them from foreign lands.

Because we live with it everyday, most Americans understand and fear this growing threat. However, our elected representatives continue to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the mounting death toll.

A weary nation must ask the questionHow many Americans have to die before the border is secured?

It's really too late for the old liberal positions on immigration to be relevant. This incident, tragic as it is, could give cover to politicians willing to change their positions...if they have the cajones. Not likely, I suppose.
I'm sure hoping that these videos will see a somewhat wider distribution, in days to come.
This particular facet of our current Border situation, and a HEROIC response to it by local "Concerned Citizens" has been downplayed. Wait,.....downplayed is not a serious enough moniker,....let's just say that there's been a LOT of effort made to QUASH this material,....and frighten off those with guts enough to produce and distribute it.

You know my thoughts, fug 'em throw 'em on a bus and get them the hell out!, Send them by force if need be, or just make a big fuggin hole in the ground!
If this doesn't wake people up to the ongoing nightmare so many live with, nothing will. George W was successful in demonizing those who want real border control. We'll see if this latest tragedy can be quashed by hussein and company. We need to keep up the pressure, as amnesty is a very high priority for the current crew, same as the last.

I imagine FOX News got a ton of e-mails on this, but keep hammering them. CNN, MSNBC, etc., will be a waste of time, but I sent FOX, Beck, Hannity and O'Reilly e-mail links and a plea to get this story out & they have. I'm sure many, many more have done the same. Keep pounding them.
Hell, they're going to be HERE,....pounding us.

It's quite a show when that big FOX caravan rolls into Dodge, we've watched it before (Hannity on the Border).

I wish they'd get lined out with NV, and get some footage of the illegals STREAMING offa' Fort Huachuca all night long, and most every dawn..

Link: http://borderinvasionpics.com/
They now have a reward for info on this shooter, maybe the wet will turn himself in for the reward. The Dem's don't care they just see it as more voters for their party come election time.
I'll tell you a sure fire way to get troops on the border.........

Private Citizens start hunting illegals, and killing them.

I guarantee that within hours, you would have a combat brigade with boots on the ground along the border.

Sadly, they would be tasked with killing American Patriots though, and not stopping the illegals.
Yep. Fuggin' tragic.

I can just see a big pro-illegal rally having some sort of False Flag attack with blame cast on the Tea Party to further demonize anyone who wants a controlled border.
Ain't gonna' happen.

GTC
Immigration was once a proud point for America, however illegal immigration has become a National plague on this country.

I curse those in Washington who allowed this to happen, and allow it to go on.

It will take thousands in their RVs along the border, armed in battle positions before this government will do a thing other than offer a short fix and lip service, soon to be forgotten.

Our government has always been more concerned at how the Mexican government will percieve their actions, more so the American people.

I think it is time a candidate for office runs on repealing Obama policy, but also making the border air tight..for once take a chance and forget the Mexican vote, and do what is right before it is too late.
Interesting tidbit here,......God bless these agents for speaking their minds.

This para. REALLY resonates:
"The agents said that this is the same Mexican government that sends millions of Mexican citizens here illegally to steal jobs and send billions of dollars back to Mexico. This is the same Mexican government whose soldiers smuggle drugs and shoot at Border Patrol agents. This is the same Mexican government that is corrupt to the core. This is the same Mexican government that uses its consular officers to sue the United States government."

Sen. McCain a Sellout, Say Border Patrol Agents
Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Senator John McCain, the so-called GOP maverick, is fighting for his political life in Arizona against former congressman and talk show host J.D. Hayworth. While most pundits believe his race may be close but hell pull out a win, some believe its time for McCain to retire.

In 2006, I wrote a column regarding U.S. Border Patrol agents from Arizonas Local 2544 blasting McCain for his words and actions regarding border security, illegal aliens and amnesty. Here is that column which originally appeared in News with Views:

United States Border Patrol agents are not happy with Senator John McCain (R-AZ) since he voted for the Amnesty Bill (S. 2611). And theyre not being quiet about their collective anger over the senators actions and remarks.

According to members of the agents union local 2544, Senator McCain has never been a friend to rank-and-file Border Patrol agents. Local 2544 represents US Border Patrol agents in Arizona, McCains home state.

He routinely ignores correspondence from Border Patrol agents and often gives the impression that he is just too big and too important to deal with us, they said.

He attempts to undermine our mission at every turn and actively supports the criminals who violate our laws. He always trys to downplay the fact that illegal aliens knowingly and willingly violate our laws, and he is a close ally on immigration matters with Senator Ted Kennedy, who we believe is the biggest disgrace of all time in the United States Senate.

These law enforcement agents point to Senator McCains imperious attitude towards rank-and-file Border Patrol agents and his complete disdain for their mission has been evident for many years.

We will not bother listing his website [for citizens to write to him] because its obvious he couldnt care less what the average American thinks and he isnt up for re-election until 2010.

And these agents arent just singling out McCain for their ire. Senator Arlen Specter, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, is also in their sights. They point to how Senator Specter, at the last minute, put a clause in the Senates shameful immigration bill that forces the United States government to consult with Mexico prior to planning or building any fences or barriers on our border.

Not on Mexicos [side of the] border, but yes, on United States soil. We cant wait to see this fencing project after the consultations take place. Maybe they can even appoint Congressman Raul Grijalva to lead the consultations for the United States of America.

The agents said that this is the same Mexican government that sends millions of Mexican citizens here illegally to steal jobs and send billions of dollars back to Mexico. This is the same Mexican government whose soldiers smuggle drugs and shoot at Border Patrol agents. This is the same Mexican government that is corrupt to the core. This is the same Mexican government that uses its consular officers to sue the United States government.

Great move Specter. Talk about the FOX guarding the henhouse.

It sells out our sovereignty by forcing the American government to consult with the Mexican government before planning or building any border fences, it encourages more widespread fraud than this country has ever seen (youll see what were talking about if this actually passes the House), and it is completely unenforceable and will overwhelm the system, the agents said in a statement submitted to the US Senate.

He's playing the only card he has left. One of his ONLY redeeming qualities is that he is a veteran. The damage his type has done to the country and the GOP can not be covered up by his prior service and great sacrifice, as honorable as it was.

High wind and fire warning issued for Southern Arizona

Brian J. Pedersen Arizona Daily Star | Posted: Wednesday, March 31, 2010 8:11 am

A high wind warning is in effect for Southern Arizona from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in advance of a storm that is projected to bring some rain and cause a massive drop in area temperatures, the National Weather Service said.

The high wind warning is for areas below 5,500 feet, where sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of 45 mph are expected today, the weather service said.

Gusts of up to 60 mph could hit mountain areas in Southern Arizona, the weather service said.

Those winds have also prompted the region to be placed on a red flag fire warning during the same time period.

Todays highs are expected to be in the low- to mid-80s, while on Thursday and Friday the highs will drop to the mid-60s, according to the weather service.

Rain on Thursday could turn into snow in areas above 4,000 during the evening, the weather service said.

I have been a life long McCain supporter, BUT I think that is about to change this year. I don't have enough time or space here to explain what I think and feel about this country of ours. For the first time in 42 years on this planet I am nervous about the future and freedoms. As well as most everyone I know is MAD and Nervous. We better take the opportunity to make the required changes BEFORE we no longer have the opportunity!! I don't know if the majority of the American public is REALLY aware of the precarious position we are in?? We need to get rid of so many viruses in Washington and start to get back to some of the values that we were founded upon. I know it is 2010 and everything changes and some things may no longer apply, but everyone knows what I mean. Come on folks start talking to people about what makes sense and what changes nedd to start happening NOW. My rant is over.

Sir, You seem to sum up a large portion of the Tea Party movement. So many have pretty much assumed it just could not get to this point, as the chipping away went on. This president and congress has decided to take a bigger bite that is above the normal radar and it has gotten the sincere attention of folks they likely would rather not have woken up.

Even some "Moderates" who just hate to make decisions are getting off of the fence that has cut off the circulation to their nuts for so long.

It seems this current pain from the bite of hussein/pelosi/reid, etc. has become enough to wake some deep sleepers.

McCain has not done one positive thing for America since his POW days. Period.
I am starting to come around to that same conclusion............
This is from our local rag. I know the young man who wrote this article, from some recent adventures he covered. It's interesting to see the shift in focal plane taking place. Questions that we had all immediately asked one another now appearing in print, e.g.,

"phone transmission ......... but all Phil Krentz could understand were the words illegal alien and hurt.
.... or that he caught up to someone and that now (Robert Krentz) was injured.

"....Border Patrol has said that eight drug smugglers were apprehended Friday night as they were crossing the Krentz ranch."

My sincerist compliments to Derek, and his editor for DARING to make these observations,......and open the door to this having perhaps an act of "Retaliation"

Rob Krentz couldn't tell us,...or his dog.

I for one would bet on it.

Herald/Review

SIERRA VISTA The east edge of Cochise County, including the area where a local rancher was killed, has seen in increase in illegal immigrant activity in the past year, Cochise County Sheriffs Office officials say.

In an area stretching from Douglas in the south to San Simon in the north, authorities say the type and volume of burglaries indicates an increase in illegal immigrant traffic. Burglary cases include the Feb. 8 report of the theft of $100 in food from a home on Skeleton Canyon Road. And the Feb. 20 report of clothing stolen from a home on Owl Butte Trail. Cases in which people peer inside windows and then run when theyre seen or enter a home and track in mud but take nothing.

Similarities in the cases point toward illegal immigrants being responsible, said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the sheriffs office.

Items that are stolen are specifically food and clothing, she said. For the most part, the residents have not been home for some time, or its a second home that they have in the area.

There is a direct relationship between these cases and the increasing amount of illegal immigrants coming into the country by way of that area, Capas said.

Robert Krentz was found shot dead Saturday on his 35,000-acre ranch between Douglas and Apache. Krentz, 58, was believed to have been killed by an illegal immigrant.

According to the sheriffs office, Krentzs brother, Phil Krentz, reported receiving a radio phone transmission from his brother between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, but all Phil Krentz could understand were the words illegal alien and hurt.

Asked if during the course of the investigation the possible meaning of these words had become clear, Capas said, We are not going to speculate on that. She added There is no way for us to know whether or not that means he caught up to someone who was injured or that he caught up to someone and that now (Robert Krentz) was injured.

Phil Krentz was to meet with his brother at another area of the ranch at noon later that day. When the time came and went and Robert Krentz was nowhere to be found, family and friends organized a search for him but were unsuccessful and contacted the sheriffs office at 6:20 p.m. The sheriffs was joined by ground and air support from the U.S. Border Patrol and the Department of Public Safety.

The body was found, along with his dog, in his all-terrain vehicle shortly before midnight.

Investigators followed the tracks of the vehicle approximately 1,000 feet back to where they determined Krentz came upon an individual. Krentz was apparently shot while in the vehicle.

Foot tracks at the scene were followed by a number of tracking teams until the Mexico border, about 20 miles south. No one had been apprehended for the death of Krentz as of Tuesday.

As the investigation continues, authorities are releasing few details, including any possible connection to an incident involving a gun that occurred within 24 hours of Krentzs death. Sheriff Larry Dever mentioned the incident during a press conference on Monday. Theyre not willing to discuss that any further, Capas said.

Separately, Border Patrol has said that eight drug smugglers were apprehended Friday night as they were crossing the Krentz ranch. The smugglers and 290 pounds of marijuana were taken into custody by border agents.

Several officials have called for an increased federal presence at the border.

On Monday, Gov. Jan Brewer renewed her call for National Guard soldiers to be deployed to the border. Also Monday, Sen. John McCain sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano calling for Guard troops on the border.

On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords made a similar request when she sent a letter to President Barack Obama and Napolitano. I urge you to take bold and immediate action to protect our citizens by deploying the National Guard to our southern border, she wrote.

Giffords also asked that more Border Patrol agents, particularly horseback units, be sent to the border and that a forward operating base, a rural outpost for Border Patrol agents, be established between Douglas and the New Mexico border.

Giffords to visit

U.S. Rep. Gabriel Giffords has called a meeting with ranchers today in Apache to discuss safety issues regarding illegal immigrant and drug smuggling traffic across their lands. The meeting
will begin at 6 p.m. at Apache Elementary School on Skeleton Canyon Road northeast of Douglas, Giffords office said.

Reward offered

The Arizona Cattle Growers Association is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of rancher Robert Krentzs killer and has set up a memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank to help Krentzs family.

Review: lllegals increasingly charged in violent crimes

(AP file)

The illegal immigrants being held in area jails are increasingly charged with violent crimes as law enforcement agencies focus on taking murderers, rapists and gang members off the streets, according to a review by the Washington Examiner.

Nearly half of the criminal charges filed against the 274 inmates who were being held during the last week of February on Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrants in Fairfax, Alexandria and D.C. jails related to violence, drugs and gang participation.

A senior ICE official said the agency has made targeting violent criminals who are in the country illegally a priority.

"By increasing our focus on taking dangerous criminal aliens off the streets and removing them from the country, we are addressing significant security vulnerabilities," said Enrique M. Lucero, director of ICE's Washington Field Office.

Illegal immigrants have been charged in a number of high-profile crimes in the region in recent months.

Earlier this month, six suspected illegal immigrants were accused of gang raping a 30-year-old woman they abducted from an Alexandria nightclub.

In late February, two suspected illegal immigrants brought an 11-year-old girl to a Silver Spring apartment where they both raped her, Montgomery County police said.

On Christmas Day, authorities say, a suspected illegal immigrant stabbed his 25-year-old roommate to death during a heated early-morning argument in Rockville.

Lucero said ICE's focus on taking violent illegal immigrants off the street is part of the agency's central mission to make the streets safer.

But some immigration advocates are concerned that efforts to catch violent criminals could end up becoming a dragnet for all illegal immigrants in the area.

Donald Kerwin, vice president of programs at the Migration Policy Institute, said, "The fear is that local police will start to go after people who appear to be immigrants for common traffic tickets, and these people will be found to be unauthorized and put in deportation proceedings without having been convicted of anything."

Kerwin said the result of the increased attention on illegal immigrants, violent and nonviolent, will be that a system already "stretched to the breaking point" will fall into ruin.

"ICE has to focus on exercising discretion," he said.

Others say focusing strictly on rounding up violent criminals doesn't go far enough.

Jon Feere, a legal policy analyst at the Center for Immigration Studies, said although applying resources to the most serious crimes is important, letting smaller offenses go unpunished has its dangers.

"Law enforcement should contact ICE to make sure illegal aliens are removed from their jurisdiction at the first possible opportunity," Feere said. "Unfortunately, some law enforcement agencies will not report an illegal alien to ICE until after a violent attack occurs. Public safety is harmed by such policies."

Percentage of charges filed against suspected illegal immigrants:

Violent crimes: 31

Property crimes: 15

Drugs: 12

Driving while intoxicated: 6

Gang participation: 3

Drunk in public: 4

Child abuse: 2

Among the remaining 27 percent are gun violations, driving without a license, reckless driving and failing to appear in court for misdemeanors.

If they are here illegally, they don't need to be convicted of anything else. Start the proceedings. Next question.

This [bleep] could be terminated and the border sealed by close of business today if the corrupt bastards in Washington wanted to.

Everyone including the MSM keeps talking about Mexico being hopelessly corrupt, but DC is the real problem.
Originally I was willing to stick with McCain because we are so close on the Senate numbers we can't afford to chance losing even one Repub vote. I was worried about JD's past record possibly allowing the Dem contender to take that seat. At least for now McCain votes straight ticket if nothing else to stick it to Obama. JD will not come in and dictate new Senate policy or effect anything but voting straight ticket, he has 0 clout. Either/or at least McCain will win over the Dem.

Screw all that now, Bandaids are allowing paper cuts to slowly bleed this country to death. Cut them all out like a cancer, we're on life support already, Let's live or die with a total change in Government, let's see what we can do in Az and you see what you can do in your state... This is more than just McCain.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!

I'm not at all sure that a meet between a General / Post Commander, and a Senior Senator is supposed to be open to press or public,....or ever has been.

You can rest assured that the "Border invasion pics" trail cam videos will have been a HOT topic there, though.

Seems like this is part of the Obama's Administration's thoughts on the "don't ask and don't tell" policy....

No longer in the National Guard, but if I was in the AZ NG, I'd volunteer to go down on the border as part of guard drill and spend my 48 hours manning an armed out look post... hopefully with orders to shoot first ask questions later.

The only people we should be deporting back to Mexico are women and children. And if the drug cartel have women and children running drugs.. well my answer is military hit teams to take them out. or Predator Drones just like they are doing to take out Al Quida leaders in the Middle East.

I see no difference in threat to this country, be it Mexican Illegal immigration or Al Quida.. or any other radical islamic terrorist organizations.
I've spent quite a bit of time in the area of the first video. Not being critical but that didn't depict the situation correctly. The overall message is fine but there is BP in the area, just north of there in Casa Grande is a large BP hub with hundreds? of officers, give or take looking at all the vehicles in the compound. It's at the hub of I10 and I8.

For two years I was working down there almost daily and BP had a presence on both interstates, they would cruise the communities south of I8 and also go out into the desert where that video was made. Twice while working in an out of the way southern community they had the roads closed because they found bodies in about that same vicinity.

I would say their presence there was about the same as on the border or even more in the areas they could go. There are two large reservations on both sides of 8 running up close to the valley from the south, not sure what agreements BP has with the rez's, being federal they may have jurisdiction.

PS, the construction company's had a hard time getting workers down there during the boom, Illegal workers refused to go because they were almost always caught in Casa Grande and the area.

Krentz Murder Furor: Giffords holding meeting in Apache, Arizona

March 31, 2010 -- 3:20 pm PDT

From Rick Oltman -- Californians for Population Stabilization
In the wake of the murder of Arizona rancher Rob Krentz, local Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has scheduled a meeting for tonight with a handful of ranchers in Apache, AZ about 40 miles northeast of Douglas on Hwy 80. It was been related to me that when a staffer called a local rancher to advise him of the meeting and also that Giffords has now called for the National Guard to be put on the border, the rancher asked, "Will the National Guard have bullets in their guns this time?" Giffords' staffer responded, "Absolutely not."

The last time National Guard was on the border, a couple years ago, every group of Guardsmen had to have at least two Border Patrol Agents for protection because they were not allowed to have loaded weapons. This had the effect of reducing the number of agents on line. About that time there was a shootout in Cananea, Mexico about 30 miles south west of Naco, AZ. A running gun battle ensued between two drug gangs (well, officially one of them was the Mexican Army) up Mexican Hwy 15 towards Naco. There were Guardsmen working on the border fence near Naco who were not armed. But, instead of giving them loaded weapons and deciding that any drug violence was going to be stopped at the border, if it got that far, Border Patrol agents were pulled off the line to escort the Guardsmen back to their motel where they were safe...leaving the residents of Naco unprotected.

Stay tuned..
I can't see anything disingenuous, or shady in the report above.

I'm NOT a "Filter",....I'll post this stuff as it comes up, and we can critique,....de-bunk after.

I also appreciate your reports GTC, without it those of us up north wouldn't know anything about what is going on down near our border. Eventually this is all going to come to a head and I hope it is sooner than later.
Hell,

We had a meeting today in Monroe. About 30 or so folks from all over the state. I brought it up and not 1 had heard of it.

It's just not getting any play. I really can't believe it either.

What Good is the National Guard if they are not armed that is a joke and more proof that the government does not care.

I would guess that most of the viewers of this site deplore the current situation on the border, and are outraged at the murder of your neighbor, but the sad fact is that most of the nation is unaware of the situation, or worse, doesn't care.

This story was a headline on the Fox News web site for less than a day. There is currently no mention of it on the main page now, though there are a couple of new border violence stories.

I doubt that the alphabet news agencies even made mention of it, and would guess that less than 50% of viewers of the Fox site bothered to read it, being distracted by all the other "news" headlines concerning slutty starlets, tattooed bimbo's, and the latest scientific research on orgasms, etc.

As much of a tragedy as this was for your community, the death of one person (who was not a celebrity) does not garner much national news coverage.

Until there is a major incident, like a Breslan type hostage taking at an elementary school on American soil (and I would not discount something like that being conducted by the cartels), media coverage will be scant and there will be no large scale public outcry for increased border security.
You're pretty much bang on there, Bud,

At least 15 killed in Tamaulipas street battles amid blockades

Three civilians injured in crossfire
March 30, 2010 10:57 AM

The Monitor
REYNOSA At least 15 people died during armed clashes with the Mexican military Tuesday in northern Tamaulipas, state officials reported.

The fatalities came as several blockades sprang up across Reynosa streets, clogging traffic and leading city officials to advise people to avoid the streets for several hours Tuesday morning.

Officials did not say whether they suspect the blockades Tuesday were drug cartel-related. Similar obstructions were reported earlier this month in Monterrey, where suspected drug cartel members have occasionally blocked primary highways that lead to the city in an effort to stop security patrols.

Slain Tuesday were seven armed civilians involved in a clash with Mexican military soldiers near the Pemex installation along the highway to Monterrey, state authorities said. Three other people involved in a gun battle between civilians and the Mexican military in Rio Bravo, according to Tamaulipas state authorities.

In Ciudad Daz Ordaz, three civililans were injured, reportedly caught in the crossfire of a street shootout, officials said. Another five people were reportedly slain in Valadeces in armed civilian confrontations. Daz Ordaz is a small community across the Rio Grande from Sullivan City.

Another person was killed during an armed confrontation with troops near the Reynosa airport, state authorities said early Tuesday afternoon; however, they later reported that one civilian had been merely injured in connection with that incident. There was no explanation for the discrepancy between the two reports.

The blockades across Reynosa choked northbound access to the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, which temporarily closed to northbound non-commercial traffic during the widespread disruption across the city, officials said.

Mexican authorities said there were unconfirmed reports of several other street battles across the city, including near Boulevard Morelos, Rio Purificacion, Mexico Highway 2 near the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, and Mexico Highway 40, which leads to Monterrey.

Authorities would not confirm other possible casualties among civilians or military personnel.

Photos submitted by a resident in Reynosa showed buses and trucks that were used to block traffic along Boulevard Morelos. Other blockades were reportedly set up along Mexico Highway 40 and Mexico Highway 2, which leads to Matamoros.

Witnesses said gunmen forced drivers to stop and block traffic with their vehicles, Proceso magazine reported on its Web site.

There were other unconfirmed reports of blockades set up Tuesday afternoon in Matamoros.

Reynosa city officials said many routes across the city had been cleared early Tuesday afternoon and that traffic had begun to move normally again.

Pharr Bridge Director Jesse Medina said Mexican officials closed off northbound non-commercial traffic at the bridge about 11 a.m. Tuesday and then allowed all traffic to pass by early afternoon. Blockages still prevented much traffic from entering the bridge.

No cars are crossing, not because the bridge is closed, I think, but because people are aware that things are going on over there, Medina said. Were hoping that it will clear up, whatever it is.

A bulletin Reynosa city officials issued about 11 a.m. Tuesday said various points throughout the city, including parts of Boulevard Morelos a major thoroughfare on the city's east side were blocked to traffic and that people should avoid driving if possible.

Officials described the blockades as a situation of risk and urged people to exercise extreme caution.

I dont know whether its a shootout, a shooting or shots fired or what, Medina said. All I know is an incident occurred.

Medina said Mexican bridge officials told him an incident occurred near the interchange of the bridge access road and Mexican Highway 2 the east-west thoroughfare that cuts across Reynosa.

McAllen Bridge Director George Ramon said traffic at the Hidalgo and Anzalduas international bridges was not disrupted.

Thanks, Scotty,....keep em' comin'

I'll agree with that, but sometimes you have to distinguish between defeatism and realism.

There are powers at play here way beyond cheap labor or liberal politics. The border is being kept open for commerce in narcotics. That is the primary driving factor.

Mexico now produces most of the Meth used in the U.S. Twenty years ago, it was all produced locally, and controlled by various American criminal organizations.

They have cut a deal with the Mexican cartels, and are getting a big cut of the profits. They are also very influential politically and are major campaign contributors with enough stroke to keep key politicians from interfering with the flow of commerce.

I doubt that the murder in Cochise county was a pre-meditated retaliation hit. A much more likely scenario is that a mule panicked and did something stupid. It is also likely that he will pay a price for it when he gets back to his bosses in Mexico. Their partners on this side of the border don't appreciate this kind of publicity.
The purpose of this thread is to keep people INFORMED as to what's coming up on local airwaves,.....for me, anyhoo.

Pueblo Politics: Response to rancher's death sparks McCain, Hayworth brawl

U.S. Sen. John McCain is blasting his challenger J.D. Hayworth, saying hes mischaracterized his record to score political points in the wake of the murder of a Douglas rancher over the weekend.

Former Congressman Hayworth is blasting back, meanwhile, saying McCains record on immigration is out of step with what Arizona wants.

Speaking on a Phoenix broadcast station about the case of Robert Krentz, who was believed to have been shot and killed by an illegal immigrant, Hayworth said he has long advocated for a military presence on the border while McCain worked on an amnesty bill with former U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Im heartened to hear that as of yesterday, Senator McCain has decided that gee, there could be a military presence on the border. The tragedy is, its too late for the Krentz family and the problems continue unabated, Hayworth said in the interview.

The fact is we need a clear, consistent conservative in the U.S. Senate who is not a johnny-come-lately to border security, but who has advocated for it and will get the job done. It is time to end this madness.

McCains campaign spokesman Brian Rogers sent out a release calling Hayworths comments despicable and offensive.

Aside from the fact Hayworth has the facts wrong since McCain has sought troops on the border for more than a year, Rogers said, More troubling is that hes trying to lay the blame for this murder on Sen. McCain. Its beyond the pale.

Press releases from last March quote McCain saying he supports sending National Guard troops.

Also, in opening comments at a field hearing in Phoenix last April to focus attention on border crime, McCain reiterated the call for the Guard to go to the border to counteract violence associated with illegal drug traffic.

Rogers noted that Hayworth knew better, given that Hayworths own talk radio show played footage of McCain telling news outlets in Phoenix that more resources were needed to secure the border.

Rogers said the comments demonstrate a candidate so consumed by political ambition that he'll say anything to anyone no matter how shameful or inaccurate.

Asked to respond to Rogers characterization, Hayworth, who was en route to a town hall in Douglas in the wake of the murder, stood by his comments, saying McCain didnt highlight the need for a military presence with any action or prominence until Krentz death.

He said the McCain campaign can quibble with the dates, but there is one fact that is beyond debate, and that is that Sen. McCain heretofore has been an unabashed advocate for amnesty. He may want to call it comprehensive immigration reform, but Arizonans arent fooled.

Texas Town on High Alert as Mexican Town Across Border Braces for Cartel Gun Battle

Downtown Fort Hancock, Texas

Residents of a small Mexican border town under siege by at least one of the countrys most notorious drug cartels are fleeing into a tiny Texas community, which is on high alert and preparing for a surge of illegal immigrants should a street battle break out with another cartel or if gunmen begin carrying out a threat to start killing the towns children.

At least 30 residents of El Porvenir, located about four miles from the Texas border town of Fort Hancock, have crossed into the U.S. and asked for political asylum, telling authorities that they fear for their lives. Fort Hancock officials tell FoxNews.com that they consider the situation serious.

We just got word that the cartel has threatened to kill children in schools across the border unless parents paid $5000 pesos, said Mike Doyle, chief deputy sheriff of Hudspeth County. And that time might come sooner than later. Schools Superintendent Jose Franco said word has spread that everyone in the Mexican town must stay indoors while members of rival cartels prepare for a shootout.

I may not be working in school that day. I may be working as a medic, said Franco, who moonlights as an ambulance paramedic.

Franco also confirmed the ransom demand for students across the border, adding that some of his students had already paid the money to be left alone.

Lawmakers Demand Administration Deploy National Guard, Border Patrol After Killing

According to Doyle, the cartel posted signs in El Porvenir earlier in the month ordering people in the town of 10,000 to get out or pay with blood. He said he wasnt sure of the deadline that was given. We have heard anywhere from a week to 40 days, he said.

Since then, Fort Hancock, population 1700, has been in the grip of fear. The school district has seen a rise in the number of enrolled students as families in Mexico send their children to live with relatives on the other side of the border.

The Fort Hancock high school, one secretary said, is preparing for more pupils and holding conferences with law enforcement on how to face the crisis. Franco says contingency plans are being drawn up in case the entire population of El Porvenir flees. It is what we fear the most, he said.

Doyle said his office is on high alert. So far there has been no violence on the U.S. side of the border, but I have had a few Fort Hancock residents killed across the border, he said.

A former law enforcement officer who lives in Fort Hancock and asked not to be named said the siege of El Porvenir is important because the town straddles one of the oldest, least defended smuggling routes on the Mexican border.

It is one of the key staging areas for the cartel and has no fences," he said. "All they do is wait for shift change at the border posts and walk across. There is no obstruction to crossing the border here.

And that, he said, was the most likely cause of the violence 860 yards away.

He said El Porvenir has been contested for some time, and machine gun fire is often heard coming from the town. The mayor and his son were recently murdered, he said. They even have a pickup truck with a .50 caliber machine gun on top.

While the problem has been seething for some time, it has finally gotten attention from both Washington and Austin. Last week Texas Gov. Rick Perry ordered a multiagency task force to the area. Rep. Kay Granger, the area congresswoman, pushed through the sale of three helicopters to the Mexican government to monitor the area. And the local sheriff has shifted patrols to the area in the hopes of stemming any violence that might spread across the border.

Are they going to buy out of state licenses? Bring their own feeders and towers? Maybe one of those mobile towers with a jacuzzi.

Maybe they could stay in Texas and take care of their own issues and politicians.

Maybe you've been desensitized from the patriotic honoring of our veterans, I haven't.

Maybe you could have another and watch American Idol, at least it has America in the title... make you feel patriotic again.

Naw,....this guy could be dealing with the "13s" that are completely trashing the NW forests,....he's from Washington state.

"Thank God I currently live in a [albeit liberal] state that promotes gun ownership (doesn't "outlaw" gun rights like say ..... New York, Illinois or Kalifornika), although my state of Woorsheengton has more than its share of libturd-public prosecutors who'd love to condemn and convict anyone who needed to protect their home by shooting an intruder or home invader."

I'm not quite understanding the humor in his approach.

The initial anger I tried to convey in real time over the last couple days in the hunting community, was of course raw at the beginning. Emotions flaring, some serious threats and of course things are settling down some and a cold anger replacing the hot. It needed to run it's course, I just tried to put it in words and used others words as it happened.

For those following these threads, there has been a change in direction to the politicians and their culpability. The real anger is directed at those in office that ignored the requests of those like MR. Krentz for security. The same is happening on the local sites where it is much more intense. A real ground swell against all established national politicians in this state. That's the direction we need to push hard and right now, McCain is in trouble, we need to keep pushing.

I do feel there will be tensions this fall when hunting seasons start. It could be if someone feels very threatened they may take action instead of trying to back out. I don't think they will ambush or go hunting for illegals, but in the right situation will not allow themselves to be ambushed as MR Krentz was.

Right now we need to get McCain out and the others also.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!!

In this case, however appearances may appear to the contrary, I happen to know that this one is an American, and that her late father was a career Military Officer and Vietnam Vet.

The greater issue on your sort of post being....

Whatever the provocation, would you REALLY want to live in a place without the Rule of Law?? We have a place like that right next door, it is called "Mexico".

I applaud those however who refuse to yield real estate to evil. In common with every other Western nation the American practice has been simply..... flight.

Flight from crime, flight from miscreants, flight from our inner cities, and now flight from our Border.

Legitimate, lawful defense of one's rights, property and life is a whole 'nother ballgame than just up and shooting folks.

Going somewhere with peaceable, but determined intent is not lunacy, nor aggression. Sometimes the BEST thing you can do is simply be there.

Interesting pic. If that gal lost her dad or other family member to the ongoing "border war," I'd say she has every [American] right to do what she appears to be doing!

I WAS previously venting a little, but how long are folks in whatever SW-state supposed to just take it? And while the thread started about Arizona, the whole incursion thing has affected ALL STATES! Arizona isn't the only state where American citizens and landowners have been murdered or assaulted by foreign invaders.

I mentioned the Rangers (I have no ties to Texas) in part because aren't they STILL one of the last lines of Texas sovereignty and defense? (independent from the fedcoats) If that idea offends any non-Texans, like the former Soviets used to say, "toughski [bleep]!"

While California and New Mexico haven't been mentioned recently (that I'm aware of) regarding invaders and border incusions, WHAT IF PROTECTING THE SOUTHWEST OR WHOLE SOUTHERN BORDER HAD TO BECOME ANOTHER GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT like the Tea Party Movement TO BE EFFECTIVE? In actually protecting Americans!!?? The fedcoats and state executives ARE NOT leading those efforts!! And instead seem to block any good or positive changes at the moment.

The wind out here this AM is just brawling,....walked out into the drive to fill the thistle sock,.....and got sandblasted in the process.

Giffords discusses safety concerns with slain rancher's neighbors, friends

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords met with local ranchers and county and federal law enforcement officers in the San Bernardino Valley northeast of Douglas on Wednesday night to come up with a plan to curb the flow of illegal immigrants through the valley. (SHAR PORIER Herald/Review )

By Shar Porier
Herald/Review

APACHE Listen to us. Take action. Dont turn away.

Former rancher Pam DiPeso of Pearce also said folks living in the San Bernadino Valley and eastern edge of Cochise County all the way up to San Simon are haunted. DiPeso said they are bothered by the feeling that it would take the death of someone before Washington showed any interest in curbing the tide of illegal border crossers and drug runners.

These people know what theyre talking about. They deserve to be heard, DiPeso added.

The slaying of legacy rancher Robert Krentz on Saturday affected many people in the county, the state and U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. She made a trip to the valley Wednesday night to hear from ranchers and residents who live in the no-mans land of a primitive, vast, hostile, yet strikingly beautiful land of rolling hills and steep ridges.

It was evident that these people were not going to let this death be glossed over or forgotten. Instead, they want to make his tragedy a jumping off point for a better and safer border policy that protects U.S. citizens on the front lines of a war no one talks about.

Stella Brown of Elfrida came with a sign that stated: Foreign Invasion. She has dealt firsthand with illegal border crossers at her home. She came home to find two people on her porch. That was frightening. Though the men were not aggressive, she now fears for her safety. She now packs a firearm and knows how to use it.

One family was afraid to give their names. The fear of drug cartel retribution is paramount in their minds. One young woman holding her 4-month-old girl told of just such a circumstance. Her neighbor called the Border Patrol on drug runners and his horses were stolen. A local veterinarian who offers services in Mexico said he had found the stud horse that he had tended to over the years in a Sonoran pasture.

Whats the answer?

How do you serve such a vast area with limited resources? The communitys answer was: Send down National Guard members with ammo in their guns. Keep the Border Patrol on the border, not 20 miles away sitting on the side of the road. Install operating stations on the border. Put up communication towers. Add patrols by county deputies. Make the ranches and homes safe enough to raise a family.

Their suggestions mirrored those of Giffords, who on Tuesday sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and President Barack Obama. She asked for immediate deployment of the National Guard to Arizonas border with Mexico.

Other suggestions like permitting the National Guard and Border Patrol to shoot first and ask questions later may be out of the realm of possibility, Giffords suggested.

Rancher Kelly Glenn, a Krentz family friend, told Giffords and Border Patrol representatives: We have begged for your support. Our home lies the closest to the border. The Border Patrol needs help. They need maps of the terrain, the paths, the roads. They need the power to defend themselves and the support of our legal system. They need to be on the border with the technology to back them up. There needs to be some focus on whats happening here.

Third-generation rancher Bill McDonald, another lifelong friend of Krentz, said: I have heard about the war on drugs and sealing the border for as long as I can remember. Ive never felt more at risk in my life.
This is a bad situation.

Giffords told the huge crowd, You have the right to live on your property and do your work without fear.

U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth informed the gathering, There are fewer Border Patrol agents working the border than there are police officers in New York City. This is a clear and present danger. The military as well as the National Guard should be deployed here.

Peggy Davis, who owns a ranch between Tombstone and Elfrida, pleaded, Dont let Robs death be in vain.

The Governor of New Mexico is sending National Guard troops back to the border ("within 24 hours"). No one in my community is talking about leaving. Even my wife is adamant that "we are not leaving this country to those sons of bitches ("country" here, meaning the area in which we live and work).

No one is proposing that we citizens go hunt the trouble makers and that's probably good because in most cases we would be out-gunned. Still, no one is going anywhere and we will protect what is ours as best we can. There is no difference in the incidence on illegal crossings between the San Bernardino Valley of Arizona and the Boot Heel of New Mexico--we are all experiencing the same flood.

I had meetings in Las Cruces yesterday afternoon and evening so did not go to the gathering at Apache. My wife went and got stopped on the way home by a Luna County deputy who has been detailed down here to assist the Border Patrol. In the course of their conversation about the situation down here, he remarked that "those guys that we are processing for the BP are the scum of the earth!" That pretty much sums it up...

50 in SE Arizona call for action near border; some want Guard, GIs

Rancher's killing draws citizens, officials

Brady McCombs Arizona Daily Star | Posted: Thursday, April 1, 2010 12:00 am

Near Portal - More than 350 people gathered outside a small schoolhouse Wednesday night to deliver suggestions to politicians and law enforcement officials about what needs to be done to restore safety to the area after the slaying of rancher Robert Krentz.

The meeting was calm and orderly, but the frustration and anger felt by the community were evident as ranchers took the microphone. Community members said they've been warning government officials for years that something like this would happen, and that they were ignored.

Apache, where the meeting took place, is about 25 miles northeast of Douglas in a rural area east of the Chiricahua Mountains near the Arizona-New Mexico line. Krentz was fatally shot on his ranch Saturday by someone thought to be a smuggler. Officials believe the killer escaped into Mexico.

The most common demand from the community was for the government to send the National Guard or active military to the border. The Krentz family, through a statement, asked for active military to be sent to the border.

Rancher Don Kimble drew huge applause when he told the officials that the military should not only come to the border but be allowed to use deadly force.

But others urged calm.

"We've all got a take a couple of deep breaths and not lose our cool," said Billy Darnell, a rancher and former sheriff in New Mexico. "And get this guy identified."

The Krentz family asked that in honor of everything Krentz stood for, people work peacefully to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the country. The family said it holds no malice toward the people of Mexico but do for the politicians in both countries who allowed the situation to get this bad.

Some of the other suggestions from community members included:

Move the Border Patrol to the border instead of having agents patrolling many miles north of the international line.

Improve radio communications among the local and federal officers in the area.

Construct cell-phone towers in the area so residents can get faster emergency services.

"We are a long ways away from any help," Kimble said. "We are pretty much on our own to protect ourselves."

The panel of officials included Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz.; Border Patrol Tucson Sector Chief Victor Manjarrez Jr.; Matthew Allen, special agent in charge of Arizona for Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Richard Tracy Jr. of the U.S. Marshals Service; and former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. They were asked to listen to residents. Several spoke briefly and stayed afterward for questions.

Department of Homeland Security officials announced a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the killer. Also, the Arizona Cattlemen's Association is offering a $15,000 reward.

"That's enough to get anybody back from Mexico," rancher Gary Thrasher said.

It isn't like you just disagreed and were discussing it, you came from nowhere guns blazing. You obviously are the one with a reading comprehension issue.

You also disappeared after I supplied your demanded proof.

I admire all veterans even though I may not vote for them for Senator.

This is a serious issue to us. Someone in Washington doesn't have to worry every time they walk out onto their property that they may be attacked. You don't have to worry about having your throat cut in your tent while hunting or having guys chase you holding AKs... these aren't maybe's... they've happened.

Your accusations about me and commentary/humor on this thread are so far off. Your anger at those of us reporting the issues as they evolve and trying to direct the emotions towards political change in this country is bizarre.

Spencer Educates McCain About Border Fence
McCain Town Hall Meeting, Sierra Vista -- March 31 -- From audio recording
Glenn Spencer: It's great to see you here and welcome to Sierra Vista. I'm glad you're here. the My name is Glenn Spencer. I live right on the border I have a ranch right on the border, just south of here.
Sen. John McCain: We've met before.
Spencer: Yes. I run a little group called American Border Patrol. It's a non-profit. And what I do, John -- we have three airplanes, and one of them I fly from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, regularly, and I map the border. I have watched the border fence go up. And we are in a unique situation where we have a database that shows when the fence went in. John, what I have learned is that there is a cause-effect relationship between when that fence went in and when the drug war started in Mexico. There's going to be a special on Channel 4 tonight in Tucson and they're going to talk about my theory. I have some data right here -- may I approach the bench?
McCain: Of course you might.
Spencer: And we have some charts that show there is a strong correlation between when the fence went in and the drug killings in Mexico. And the theory is this -- and I believe it is true -- If -- and we've only built a small part of the fence -- and if we finish it -- we've only built thirty-five miles of the 700 mile double fence -- if we finish it -- wouldn't that cut off all of the drugs that these guys are fighting over? -- Wouldn't that cut off all of the avenues coming in? (applause) And that would end the drug war in Mexico. I believe it would. -- (Exchange continues for about five minutes)

Instead we get them going down being briefed as if this is a new emergency, they can go back and research under advisement, stall and hope it disappears.... Ahhhhhhhh...

Tom Tancredo's call for troops on the border picked up by one of his least favorite politicians: John McCain

Tom Tancredo has a new and unexpected ally.
On Monday in this space, ex-Congressman and former presidential candidate Tom Tancredo called for Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to send National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border following the murder of rancher Rob Krentz, presumably by an illegal alien.

His plea has now been echoed by none other than Arizona Senator John McCain, who sent a letter to Napolitano name-checking Krentz; read it below.

McCain's move indicated just how much heat he's feeling from primary opponent J.D. Hayworth, who's challenging the 2008 Republican presidential nominee from the right. After all, Tancredo has open contempt for McCain, who he rips whenever he gets the opportunity -- including at the recent National Tea Party convention.

At that gathering, Tancredo caused a stir by arguing that the country should adopt literacy tests as a prerequisite for voting -- a prospect critics compared to old Jim Crow laws designed to prevent African-Americans from voting. In an interview with Westword, Tancredo denied that race was behind his suggestion, noting that he got the idea from an immigrant. He added, "The only thing that was discouraging to me was I was really hoping to have a lot more attention drawn to my remarks about John McCain, who I dislike intensely and hoped wouldn't win. That was three-quarters of the speech."

He returned to this theme during a previously unpublished portion of the interview conducted on Monday. He'd been in Arizona that weekend to speak at a Tea Party rally in the town of Sonoita, about twenty miles from the border, before a crowd of approximately 500 people. "People came from miles around, and it was great," Tancredo said. "I'm sure that neither John McCain nor Dick Armey would agree that it was great, but I thought it was wonderful, because I got to talk about them, too, in McCain's home state."

The reference to Armey pertains to Tancredo's contention that the onetime Majority Leader is trying to take over the Tea Party movement -- the subject of a blog published yesterday. As for McCain, Tancredo noted that his speech took place in Southern Arizona, which is not one of the veteran senator's areas of strength -- but he couldn't resist pointing out that "no one I met liked him."

Moreover, Tancredo confessed to being puzzled that Tea Party heroine Sarah Palin, who rose to prominence as McCain's vice-presidential pick in 2008, had recently headlined at McCain rallies.

"The Sarah Palin aspect of this is really fascinating," he maintained. "I wasn't close enough to the situation to know for certain, but I had the impression that he was throwing her under the bus most of the time. I don't understand her need to pay him back in any other way than in kind."

On top of that, Tancredo shared anecdotes he'd heard about sizable portions of the crowds that came to hear Palin tout her old running mate left when it was McCain's turn to speak.

Bedfellows don't get much odder. Here's McCain's letter to Napolitano:

The Honorable Janet Napolitano Secretary U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington, DC

Dear Secretary Napolitano,

I am gravely concerned with the continued and apparently growing violence along our border with Mexico. Most recently, I was saddened and outraged to hear of the death of Robert Krentz, a longtime Arizona rancher who was found dead on his property near Douglas, Arizona. The federal government must do all it can within its power to curb this violence and protect its citizens from criminals coming across the border from Mexico.

For years, I have called on the President to send National Guard troops to the border in an effort to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and narcotics. Most recently, I supported Governor Jan Brewer's request to place troops along Arizona's border with Mexico. Unfortunately that request was rejected by this Administration. A year later, in light of the recent incidents and the continued growth of drug violence along the border, I am asking you and the Administration to immediately reconsider your position and send National Guard troops to our southern border region.

We must make the security of our borders one of our top national security priorities. The United States must also do all it can to assist the Mexican government in its efforts to combat these violent drug cartels. The prosperity and success of Mexico is essential to the prosperity and success of our own country. We share a border, our economies are intertwined, and we are major trading partners. The U.S. must show its support for our neighbor to the south and support the Mexican people and the Calderon Administration in this fundamental struggle against lawlessness and corruption.

The people of Arizona and the United States demand and deserve secure borders. I hope that you will take a personal interest in ensuring that Arizonans can feel safe and protected on their own property and not live in fear of the increasing violence along the border. I look forward to a swift and decisive response to this situation.

Nothing to do with Mccain vs Hayward!

So sorry, (and I beg to differ) but you "blaze" pretty well yourself.

You also disappeared after I supplied your demanded proof. Actually I will apologize for this - as I really didn't care whether you proved anything or not. Again what do Mormons have to do with Mccain vs Hayward? Nothing!!?? (I wasn't impressed! And BTW, before locating to WA I lived in UT for 19yrs, and was born in SLC, altho I didn't grow up there - "big deal", right?) No I don't know AZ politics (don't pretend to and won't insist everything I've heard or read - from outside AZ "is the way it is" - I also get ticked off too when anyone tries to tell me whats happening in my community when they don't live there, didn't experience something firsthand, yet "they heard something .... so its gotta be right!!!!!" whatever! (I admit I don't know much about AZ), but again, what's the "religious thing?"

I admire all veterans even though I may not vote for them for Senator. Goody for you! If thats how you feel or believe, great! I've made it clear I'm no longer impressed with Mccain's military service (despite that I grew up in a Navy family).

And Mccain along with Everett Alvarez may have been the two longest held POW's (Alvarez specifically was, not exactly sure about McCain's exact captivity), but Mccant has done far more to hurt the country as a senator - and eclipsed any good he did previously - in my opinion! Mccant certainly isn't doing much "good" now, today! But sliding by on old "histories?" No longerr works for me.

You're 100% correct and NO ARGUMENT from here. Sorry you think otherwise or thought I expressed otherwise! My widow-mother recently went to Tucson and then to Phoenix to watch baseball spring training and such, with her best friend and the friend's grown sons and families. I was VERY careful and adament to warn my mum she was traveling to a strange environment (for her) that greater Phoenix and valley is the kidnap capital of USA, 2nd only behind Mexcio City. I ALREADY KNEW THIS! And don't doubt it. And have warned for months and months my family members about the state of emergency ALL southwesterners have to live with DAILY, altho greater-Phoenix is the worst. And damm Bush did nothing! Nor the Chicago thug! I could rant about this too, but would rather learn the latest news on the successes that Joe Arpayo(sp?) and Richard Mack are having - since I last heard anything.

Your accusations about me and commentary/humor on this thread are so far off. So are yours ....., but sorry.

With the murder of a prominent Arizona rancher, the illegal immigration debate is once again moving to the front and center.

The only problem is that neither Simcox nor the Minuteman groups had anything to do with BorderInvasionPics.com or http://www.SecureBorderIntel.org . American Border Patrol has worked with both groups very closely and provided funding for one of them. Chris Simcox is a liar.

Anyone can bitch or cry boo hoo. What has JD done that's so frikkin "bad"?

Specifics Proof? Or just your whining and crying 'cause you don't like him? And like McCant better?

As for your "contingent of LDS being the biggest outside of SLC," you got proof of that too? Or is that just a "loose-opinionated response," as well? (holds zilch credibility with non-LDS and many LDS too!)

Dates? Places? Specific issues? What exactly had JD done that's sooo bad? EDUCATE US WITH FACTS!!! Oh pretty please!!?? Not your "feelings!" smirk

I'vr watched or heard too too-many times McCant (even gleefully) thwart and sabotage the "right side" of the "aisle" in the senate, or stick his finger the the conservative-sides' eye. Chronying-up to that bastard Teddy Kennedy or some other demoncrap or RINO tory or traitor. And his best budds Lindsey Grahamnesty and Joe Lieberman, big deal! They're ALL progressives, and ultimatelty SOCIALISTS and [ultimately] globalists or NEW WORLD ORDER "soldiers." Anti American sovereignty and INDEPENDENCE and NATIONALISM in other words!!

Officers say they found six bundles of marijuana - 10.5 pounds - strapped from her torso to her legs.

The marijuana was valued at $5,250.

The unidentified woman from Nogales, Son. was turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A new facility designed to ease information-sharing between border law enforcement agencies in Arizona has been unveiled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The $16 million Intelligence and Operations Coordination Center will operate as a communications hub, Janie Young, director of the center, said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The facility is at the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector headquarters.

It will streamline the process of receiving intelligence in real time, then analyze and disseminate it throughout the agency, Young said.

The dedication came days after the shooting death of Robert Krentz, a Cochise County rancher who was killed on his property, possibly by a smuggler who may have escaped into Mexico.

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer - both of whom spoke at the ceremony - have called for the National Guard to return to the border in response to incidents of violence.

But that is not the only solution to securing the area, said David V. Aguilar, acting deputy commissioner of Customs and Border Protection. He also is a former Border Patrol sector chief here.

"There is a need for enforcement capability," Aguilar said.

"Anything that we can do that can bring security to our nations' borders is critically important, not just (with) the National Guard, not just (with) boots on the ground, but the collective effort of what we are doing."

The facility also has the capability of serving as a central command center during a natural disaster, a CBP press release said.

Also Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security transferred an array of equipment to Mexico's Secretariat of Public Safety to beef up law enforcement there.

The equipment includes 10 all-terrain vehicles, four off-road motorcycles, 50 Global Positioning Systems, 30 rechargeable flashlights, 20 mountain bikes and other assorted equipment.

Yup, working with those friendly and smiling Mex. Cops is just a real treat,....and heartwarming in the extreme.

Ex-Tijuana cop allegedly plotted kidnapping of wealthy O.C. family's child [Updated]
March 31, 2010 | 2:45 pm

A onetime Tijuana police officer was arrested on suspicion of plotting to kidnap the child of a wealthy Orange County family, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspect, Cesar Ariel Zapata-Landeros, told an informant that he had planned the kidnapping, going as far as to rent a storage garage where he claimed he would keep the child, according to court records unsealed Wednesday.Cesar Ariel Zapata-Landeros, suspect in Orange County kidnap-for-ransom plot.

Federal prosecutors allege that Zapata-Landeros intended to run the mother's car off the road in the Tustin Hills area as she took her children to school. He told the informant he would then demand a $300,000 ransom, threatening to cut off two of the child's fingers and send them to the family if they refused to pay.

He also told the informant he had done security work for the family in the past. The name of the family was not provided in court records, and Zapata-Landeros could not be reached for comment.

The FBI conducted the investigation with the Westminster Police Department. Westminster officers and FBI agents arrested Zapata-Landeros on March 16 about 100 yards from the potential victim's home. The suspect was charged in federal court with solicitation to commit kidnapping for ransom.

[Updated at 3:59 p.m.: An earlier version of this post said the arrest was made about 100 miles from the potential victim's home.]

Border violence threatens Americans

By Ben Conery and Jerry Seper

The killings last month in the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juarez of two U.S. citizens, including an employee at the city's U.S. Consulate, along with the slaying of an Arizona rancher, have fueled concerns among U.S. officials that Americans are becoming fair game for Mexican drug gangs seeking control of smuggling routes into the United States.

For more than two years, U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials have been warning that the dramatic rise in violence along the southwestern border could eventually target U.S. citizens and spread into this country. The violence posed what the officials called a "serious threat" to law enforcement officers, first responders and residents along the 1,951-mile border.

The numbers bear out those concerns, according to the State Department: 79 U.S. citizens were killed last year in Mexico, up from 35 in 2007. In Juarez, just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas, 23 Americans were killed in 2009, compared with two in 2007.

In response, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Sen. John McCain, both Republicans, have called on the Department of Homeland Security to deploy the National Guard along the Arizona border. Mrs. Brewer said the rising violence showed the "abject failure of the U.S. Congress and President Obama to adequately provide public safety along our national border with Mexico."

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Arizona Democrat, whose district includes the area where rancher Robert Krentz was killed, said if the slaying was connected to smugglers or drug cartels, the federal government should consider all options, including sending more Border Patrol agents to the area and deploying the National Guard.

Former Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican, and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, a Republican who is seeking Mr. McCain's senatorial seat, joined in the call for National Guard troops to be stationed along the border.

Mr. Hayworth said the federal government should "act now and step up its efforts to secure our borders."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry also has put into play a "spillover violence contingency plan" to address attacks on American citizens in Mexico. The plan increases border surveillance; intelligence sharing; and ground, air and maritime patrols.

A day before the March 13 Juarez killings, Mr. Perry unsuccessfully sought help from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to use unmanned Predator drone aircraft and 1,000 additional soldiers for missions on the Mexican border. He said there was a disparity in the amount of federal resources allotted to Texas for border security.

The White House said Mr. Obama was "deeply saddened and outraged" by the killings and had pledged to "continue to work with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his government to break the power of the drug-trafficking organizations that operate in Mexico and far too often target and kill the innocent."

Now you don't care... and yet this post came from nowhere. I just answered you accusations in your post. Oh!!??

It's not like we had discussed before, you tried to blindside me (that was never the intention, but believe what you will) , backpeddling now? Nope! Your strawman argument by mentioning Mormons was irrelevant as you failed to explain why you mentioned them (out of nowhere) and SOUNDED STUPID -like you were "reaching?" And for WHAT!!?? That the reader was somehow supposed to fill in the "gaps" you didn't write?

I frankly dismissed you at that point as ridiculous like some LDS roommates I once had!

How is anyone outside of AZ going to follow [your lack of] logic in what you wrote ro didn't write Kent, about where you vote because IF they don't know your world and you don't first describe it to them!? You sounded illogical, like "your thinking" might have gone from A to Z, or maybe only as far S or T, but you never explained all the other points or letters in between.

And while everyone might be familiar with the alphabet, doesn't mean the outside-of-Arizona reader could even begin to guess what you were thinking (but failed to include in your post!) Pulling out of nowhere a reference to a religious demographic might as well have been ..... "What's that got to do with the price of rice in China?" is why your comments suddenly sounded stupid.

You didn't explain why suddenly you were talking about "China or rice" (or religious people). I no longer took you seriously. And actually why I questioned your statistic (I should have written I didn't care whether that was a real stat or one you made up. Or important?

I STILL DON'T CARE whether it is real or made up! Because you still haven't explained how or why that bit of trivia affected Hayworth's defeat from congress! (there also no reference from you about Hayworth's voting record/history).

Conversely - How would it be significant if those were instead democrats and not Mormons? You didn't give the reader enough details to follow your [intended?] messege!.

[quote=StubbleDuck][quote=krp]JD spent 10 yrs in congress and then lost to the Dem opponent in my district, the biggest Mormon contingent outside Salt Lake, 60% republican. Again! Why the religious reference? If you had simply said "JD spent 10 yrs in congress and then lost to the Dem opponent in my district ....." And nothing more, the meaning of WHAT you said would still be the same! The addtional reference to the demographic group in that precinct is immaterial whether OR HOW Hayward was beaten by a democrat.

Why do you think people read your mind? Do your thoughts occur too fast write them all down? Or do you really assume people can read your mind?

He ain't no newbie and a loser on top of it.... we'll see... he now sucks less. Even this comment implies several thoughts you haven't explained and sounds really derogatory, but you expect the reader to clearly understand everything. Don't ya!?

Yeah right. Cheers!

You're not so cynical, but aware. FNC reported last night that when the regular cast of tories goes forward with the next round of immigration reform and amnesty, that McCant's campaign would be severely hurt by sponsoring such a bill like he did the last time!

One of the millstones McCant carried with him into all the republicrat debates 2 1/2 - 3years ago was his chronyism with Ted Kennedy and support for the then-failed immigration bill.

Hopefully the American voter keeps a keen sense of memory this election cycle.
I'm not writing a thesis, now you are basing your whole argument on a couple words in one sentence.

"JD spent 10 yrs in congress and then lost to the Dem opponent in my district, the biggest Mormon contingent outside Salt Lake, 60% republican."

In context it references voting demographics, has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with the magnitude of JD's loss, this wasn't San Fransisco or Seattle.

Anyway through various posts on different topics I have referenced all your questions, I'm not wasting time posting them again. I was correct in everything I said, sorry you can't understand.

8 gunmen die in attack on two army bases in Mexico
Seven assaults in two northern states take place almost simultaneously, apparently marking a major escalation in Mexico's drug war.

The Associated Press

March 31, 2010 | 10:58 p.m.

VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico - Dozens of gunmen mounted rare and apparently coordinated attacks targeting two army garrisons in northern Mexico, touching off firefights that killed 18 attackers.

The attempts to blockade soldiers inside their bases -- part of seven near-simultaneous attacks across two northern states -- appeared to mark a serious escalation in Mexico's drug war, in which cartel gunmen attacked in unit-size forces armed with bulletproof vehicles, dozens of hand grenades and assault rifles.

While drug gunmen frequently shoot at soldiers on patrol, they seldom target army bases, and even more rarely attack in the force displayed during the confrontations Tuesday in the border states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon -- areas that have seen a surge of bloodshed in recent months.

The violence mainly involves a fight between the Gulf cartel and its former allies, the Zetas, a gang of hit men. The cartel -- which has apparently formed an alliance with other cartels seeking to exterminate the Zetas -- has been warning people in the region with a series of banners and e-mails that the conflict would get worse over the next two to three months.

Gunmen staged seven separate attacks on the army, including three blockades, Gen. Edgar Luis Villegas said Wednesday. He called the attacks "desperate reactions by criminal gangs to the progress being made by federal authorities" against Mexico's drug cartels.

Villegas said gunmen parked trucks and SUVs outside a military base in the border city of Reynosa trying to block troops from leaving, sparking a gun battle with soldiers. At the same time, gunmen blocked several streets leading to a garrison in the nearby border city of Matamoros.

Another gang of armed men opened fire from several vehicles on soldiers guarding a federal highway in General Bravo, in Nuevo Leon state.

Troops fought back, killing 18 gunmen, wounding two and detaining seven more suspects. One soldier suffered slight injuries.

Soldiers also seized 54 rifles, 61 hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades, eight homemade explosive devices and six bulletproof vehicles used by the attackers.

Mexico's northern states are under siege from the escalating violence involving drug gangs.

The U.S. consulate in the northern city of Monterrey warned American citizens who may be traveling for Easter week about recent battles in the states of Nuevo Leon, Coahuila and Durango. The consulate said U.S. citizens traveling by road from Monterrey to Texas "should be especially vigilant."

One of the clashes between soldiers and gunmen killed two gunmen on the highway connecting Monterrey and Reynosa, which is across the border from McAllen, Texas.

Less than two hours before that shootout, Nuevo Leon Gov. Rodrigo Medina had assured citizens that authorities regained control over the state's highways.

"I've found the highways calm. We ask that if citizens have plans to go out and enjoy these vacations, they should do so," Medina said.

Also on Wednesday, authorities in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco announced that the nephew of one of Mexico's most-wanted drug gang leaders was captured, together with a police chief accused of protecting a notorious cartel in a key port city.

Federal police detained Roberto Rivero Arana, who identified himself as the nephew of reputed Zetas gang leader Heriberto Lazcano, the Attorney General's Office said in a statement issued late Tuesday.

He was arrested along with Daniel Perez, the acting police chief of Ciudad del Carmen, an oil hub in neighboring Campeche state. The statement alleged Perez received 200,000 pesos ($16,000) a month for protecting the Zetas.

The arrests come as the Zetas are under pressure from a bloody turf war with their former ally, the Gulf cartel. Authorities blame that fight for contributing to a surge of violence in Mexico's northeastern border states north of Tabasco and Campeche.

Perez was acting chief pending a permanent appointment, Ciudad del Carmen Mayor Aracely Escalante said Wednesday.

"He's an agent who had been with the police force long before we took over the town government," Escalante said. "We had given him our trust."

The two men were found with 10 assault rifles, a grenade, ammunition, drugs, police uniforms and worker suits with the logo of Mexico's state oil company, Pemex, the Attorney General's Office said.

Last week, Tabasco Gov. Andres Granier warned that the arrests of several suspected Zetas over the past several months could stoke turf battles in his region. He asked the federal government to send troops.

Meanwhile, the Mexican government announced that federal police will take over the anti-crime campaign currently headed by the army in the violent border city of Ciudad Juarez.

The army deployment has come under criticism from those who say soldiers are not trained for police work, and complaints they conducted illegal searches and detentions. But perhaps more important is the fact that killings have continued apace, even with troops in the city across the border from El Paso, Texas.

An unspecified number of soldiers will remain in Juarez to help combat drug gang violence that killed more than 2,600 people last year, and 500 more so far this year in the city of 1.3 million.

Starting Thursday, "the Mexican army will start gradually transferring responsibility for public safety to civilian authorities, to federal authorities at the beginning and gradually to state and local" forces, the Interior Department said in a news release.

The statement said 1,000 federal officers will be added to the police deployment in the city, bringing the number of federal agents to 4,500.

More than 7,000 troops had arrived in Juarez by mid-2009.

The department said the change was part of a new strategy to focus on social programs as an answer to the continuing violence.

Elsewhere, four severed human heads were found early Wednesday in Apatzingan, a town in the western state of Michoacan. Residents found the heads, with eyes still blindfolded, lined up at the foot of a monument along with a threatening message, state prosecutors said.

In Morelia, the Michoacan state capital, police reported finding the bodies of three young men who had been shot to death. The bodies had messages stuck to their chests with knives, The contents of the messages were not released.

Police in the border city of Nogales reported finding the bullet-ridden bodies of three men, including a city transport official, on a rural road along with three burned-out vehicles.

Wednesday marked the beginning of Mexico's Easter Week vacation, and police in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero reported that gunmen had held up two motorists on the highway leading to the resort of Acapulco. The gunmen stole the victims' vehicles, but they were not injured.

N.M. governor orders National Guard to border

Associated Press

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico National Guard is planning how to put more troops along the state's border with Mexico to beef up surveillance after Gov. Bill Richardson on Wednesday ordered guardsmen to patrol the area.

The order came days after an Arizona rancher was shot to death. Authorities believe he was killed last weekend by an illegal immigrant who fled to Mexico.

Details are being worked out for how many troops will be sent to the border and where they will be based.

A spokesman for the New Mexico Guard, Lt. Col. Jamison Herrera, said the timeframe and scope of the operation will determine how many soldiers will be activated.

Their focus will be observation posts and using infrared tools that can detect body heat and movement during the night, he said.

A spokesman for Richardson, Gilbert Gallegos, said troops will not be apprehending immigrants.

In 2005, then-President George W. Bush ordered 6,000 National Guard troops to New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and California to help the Border Patrol cut illegal immigration. Troops were deployed in observation posts along the border until Border Patrol ranks were beefed up.

Last August, the four border governors asked congressional leaders to fully fund a long-standing program in which National Guard troops help with anti-drug efforts at the U.S.-Mexico border. They told House and Senate leaders additional manpower was needed as violence associated with drug trafficking intensified.

On Tuesday, Richardson's office said state police and county sheriff's departments have increased patrols along the border and that the U.S. Border Patrol also has boosted its presence.

The guardsmen will work with the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, which is coordinating law enforcement along the border.

Also this week, members of New Mexico's congressional delegation asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to increase the Border Patrol's presence in the Boot Heel of New Mexico, which is about 10 miles from the spot where the Arizona rancher was killed.

So, Grijalva wants to Boost Border Security, and Amnesty at the same time ?

An idiot, that, a VERY political idiot.

Congressman Grijalva Statement on Death of Arizona Rancher Robert Krentz
Written by Yuma News Now
Tuesday, 30 March 2010

Washington, DC - Congressman Ral M. Grijalva today released the following statement on the death of well-known rancher Robert Krentz: My heart goes out to Robert Krentzs family.

Though I did not know Mr. Krentz, he had a reputation as a caring and kind soul. His active role as a member of the Malpai Borderlands Group, an organization of conservation-minded ranchers, is a testament to his commitment to sound approaches to the management of our borderlands. Mr Krentzs death should move us to solve our border security problems, not exploit them for extreme political agendas.

The safety of the Arizona border region is subject to multiple conflicting factors, including the prevalence of organized criminal groups with little regard for human life. We must reach across the border and develop better cooperation with Mexican authorities to address smuggling activities in these isolated regions. Congress must stand up and address comprehensive immigration reform so that our border agencies can focus on isolating and preventing criminal activities along the border.

Breaking News: White House responds to Guard deployment call

Reporter: Steve Nunez
Web Producer: Forrest Carr

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - After a second day of trying, KGUN9 News has finally obtained a response from the White House on Governor Brewer's request to send the National Guard to patrol Arizona's border. While not directly addressing the deployment question, the statement promised that the administration will continue "monitoring" the situation.

On Wednesday KGUN9's Steve Nunez documented how Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has made five written requests for such a deployment over the last year and a half. The governor said none of those requests elicited a reply. Since the murder of prominent southeast Arizona rancher Robert Krentz on Saturday, many other politicians on both sides of the aisle, along with many ranchers and law enforcement officers, have echoed the governor's request. Nunez tried repeatedly to get a response from the White House to those calls on Wednesday. He spent the day being shuffled from one agency to the next and ended the day with a score of zero.

On Thursday Nunez tried again, retracing his steps and asking the same questions of many of the same people. Among the questions 9 On Your Side wants to know: What is the President's stance on sending troops to the border? Why has his administration simply ignored the requests from Arizona's governor? What does the President have to say to Arizona citizens and politicians who are now renewing that call and asking for his help?

By the end of the business day, Nunez was able to obtain this carefully worded statement from White House spokesman Adam Abrams: "The President is firmly committed to ensuring our borders are secure. It is why the Administration has taken important steps including deploying additional law enforcement resources to reduce illegal flows across the border and supporting Mexico's efforts against drug trafficking organizations. We are carefully monitoring the situation and will continue to ensure that we are doing everything necessary to keep communities along the Southwest border safe."

The statement sidestepped the question of why the administration has simply ignored Governor Brewer. Adams told KGUN9 News that the statement quoted above is all the White House will have to say on this issue for now.

Calls for National Guard deployment erupted anew over the weekend following the Krentz murder. Someone shot Krentz to death Saturday at his ranch about 25 miles northeast of Douglas. Investigators have no suspects and no confirmed motive, but have said the most likely scenario is that Krentz encountered an illegal border crosser.

Ranchers along the border have been complaining for years that they're overrun with border crossers. On Sunday Cochise County Larry Dever confirmed that burglaries, home invasions and even kidnappings are now a routine occurrence along the border corridor.

In doing research for these stories, KGUN9 News found in its files a 1999 interview from a rancher in that area who lamented that no one was listening. It's the same complaint ranchers have today -- but in the wake of the Krentz murder, ranchers are making the complaint more forcefully. This time, at least some politicians are making a point of listening. On Wednesday night, hundreds of ranchers and area residents turned out in the border town of Portal to meet with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on the issue. Giffords, a Democrat, is among those calling for National Guard deployment.

On Thursday Nunez also pursued the story through the Department of Homeland Security, now headed by former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. While she was governor, Napolitano had a reputation of being fairly accessible to citizens and the media. A department spokesman told Nunez today that if he wanted to question Napolitano about the border security situation in Arizona, he should put in a request, and expect to wait at least a month.

Nunez will have full reports about today's efforts on KGUN9 News at 6 and 10.

Krentz family releases statement on ranchers death

The Krentz family released the following statement regarding the recent shooting death of Robert Krentz on his Southern Arizona ranch.

On March 27th, our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle was murdered in cold blood by a suspected illegal alien on the Ranch.

This senseless act took the life of a man, a humanitarian, who bore no ill will towards anyone. Rob loved his family instilling in them the importance of honesty, fair dealing and skill managing all aspects of a large 100 year old ranching operation producing food to make our country strong and healthy.

He was known for his concern and kindness helping neighbors, friends and even trespassers on his ranch with compassionate assistance in their time of need.

We hold no malice towards the Mexican people for this senseless act but do hold the political forces in this country and Mexico accountable for what has happened. Their disregard of our repeated pleas and warnings of impending violence towards our community fell on deaf ears shrouded in political correctness. As a result, we have paid the ultimate price for their negligence in credibly securing our Borderlands.

In honor of everything Rob stood for, we ask everyone to work peacefully towards bringing credible law and order to our border and provide Border Patrol and county law enforcement with sufficient financial resources and manpower to stop this invasion of our country.

We urge the President of the United States to step forward and immediately order deployment of the active U.S. military to the Arizona, New Mexico Border.

Thank you for all for honoring Rob. We want the truth known.

Of course, for McCain, it is an election year, and he is facing a tough primary challenge from conservative J.D. Hayworth.

A brief examination of McCains actions over the last several years is enough to show us where his true loyalty liesand it is not with the American people.

The 2007 Amnesty Bill written by McCain would have merely required illegal aliens to pay a $5,000 fee in order to stay here and gain legal residency. The fact that American citizenship is now valued at roughly the same cost as a 2003 Volkswagen is insulting, the fact that our own Congress and President arrived at that estimation speaks to how little respect our elected representatives have for this nation.

Under McCain's bill, even members of Mexican drug gangs would have received amnesty by simply signing a statement in which they renounced their gang affiliation, the so-called 'background checks' that illegal aliens would have received were only of the 24-hour variety, which reveal very little (if anything), and they would then be given a six-month worker card. Even violent members of MS-13 would be given legal status based on nothing but their promise to become upstanding citizens.

In 2008, Republican Presidential candidate John McCain told the crowd at annual National La Raza Conference: I dont want to fail again to achieve comprehensive immigration reform.

Of course, comprehensive immigration reform is nothing more than code for amnesty for illegal aliens.

After the massive illegal alien protests in 2006, in which millions of law -breakers demanded their rights and trampled upon American flags, McCain made the following statement: If such demonstrations continue, I think we will have a bill for the President to sign soon. The more debate, the more demonstrations, the more likely we will prevail.

John McCain has spent the last quarter-century in Washington D.C., and for many of those years, he has spent his time working on behalf of illegal aliens and the unscrupulous companies which hire them. He has also sat by and watched as thousands of Americans were murdered, raped, and robbed by those same illegal aliens.

Now, six months out from election day, he expects us to believe that he stands for the strong defense of our borders.

To John McCainyoure too late, we dont buy it!
VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!

That means in your state too!

DEA Cover Up?

TV Interview Raises Serious Questions

American Patrol Report -- April 2

Feature Image

"A drug war south of the border has killed thousands of people. So what's fuelling the bloodshed? " So began a special report aired on Tucson's KVOA-TV on Wednesday.
The report focused on a claim by American Border Patrol that drug killings in Mexico started when the U.S. began building new fencing and barriers, cutting off prized smuggling routes. Glenn Spencer, head of ABP, praised KVOA report, "Reporter Wing did an excellent job," Spencer said. "Any reasonable person watching this report would agree that what we are saying makes sense."
What doesn't make sense, Spencer says, is the reaction by the Drug Enforcement Administration to the drug war theory. Interviewed by Wing, DEA spokesman Anthony Coulson denied there was a link between the fence and the Mexican drug war.
"The drug trafficking organizations are not fighting over control of the corridor," says Drug Enforcement Administration's Asst. Special Agent in Charge Anthony Coulson. "Last year that was the case."
It is incredible that Coulson would make this statement when he knows that the Internet is replete with recent stories by major news organizations that the cartels are fighting over control of smuggling corridors.
Coulson says that the drug killings in Mexico spiked when the Mexican government began cracking down, but this doesn't make sense. Why would the cartels begin fighting each other because of a government crackdown? It would make more sense for them to join in an all-out fight against law enforcement.
Coulson goes on to say that the best way to fight the drug problem is to help people who are addicted to drugs. "I hope that we can get there but it's going to take a long time for us to dig this out." Could it be that Coulson and many in the DEA hope that it takes "a long time" to solve the drug problem so they can keep their well-paid jobs?

Krentz family talks about losing Rob

NEAR DOUGLAS - It's been five days since Southern Arizona rancher Rob Krentz was shot and killed on his family's cattle ranch. The 58-year-old was tending to waterlines Saturday when he and his dog were gunned down. Krentz and his brother Phil were handling different sides of the ranch when Phil heard Rob call over the radio "illegal alien" and "hurt." Investigators are still trying to determine if Rob came across a hurt illegal immigrant or if he was hurt by an illegal immigrant.

A few hours later, when Phil couldn't find his older brother, the family contacted authorities and friends who immediately started searching the Krentz' 35,000 acres of land. The Cochise County Sheriff's Office launched its search and rescue squad and called on the state helicopter for assistance within minutes a DPS ranger helicopter located Krentz's body and that of his dog, both had been shot.

Authorities tracked one set of footprints from the murder scene to the Mexican border but have yet to locate a suspect. Sheriff Larry Dever believes only one person was involved in the fatal shooting.

The Arizona Cattleman's Association is offering a $15,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of Krentz' killer and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are adding another $25,000 as a reward in the case.

Sue Krentz, Rob's wife of 32 years said, "I have been seriously violated and am very angry." The couple raised their three children, Frank, Andy and Kyle on the family's cattle ranch. The Krentz ranch has been in operation for more than 100 years, and was inducted into the Arizona Farming and Ranching Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Krentz family has lived on the homestead on the San Bernardino valley for more than six generations. Sue said her husband was especially proud of the water line he and his family established on the ranch's 35,000 acres of land for the 800 head of cattle and other wildlife in the area.

For the last five years, Sue and Rob petitioned Arizona's political leaders asking for more security along the border, "The issue is that in this area of the border we are not safe and that's not fair. Article 4, Section 4 of the constitution says it is the obligation of the federal government to defend us from invasion both foreign and domestic."

In the last year, Rob had undergone hip and back surgery. Sue fears her husband did not have a chance to defend himself, "With his health issues I'd always tell him you got to take care of yourself cause I don't know I'd do without you. He'd say I'd be strong and my kids would help me."

Kyle, was Rob's only daughter. She said, "He was just a great man, he would do anything to help us out he was kind of like John Wayne he could do anything and everything."

John Zamar, one of Rob's friend said, "He's an individual I called a friend but he was really a brother, and a person you admired."

A gentle giant who will be sorely missed.

Memorial services for Rob Krentz will be held Friday, April 9th at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Douglas at 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 10th at 10 a.m. in the Douglas High School gymnasium. Donations can be made to any Wells Fargo Bank.

Rancher Robert Krentz didn't deserve to die on his own land in the USA

MY OPINION: Plenty of blame

By Lionel Waxman, Inside Tucson Business
Published on Friday, April 02, 2010
Robert Krentz was a good man. People who knew him say he was a humanitarian and a Good Samaritan. He didnt deserve to die in the dirt - on his own land - at what law enforcement investigators believe was the gunpoint of an illegal border crosser. His family didnt deserve to lose him. The nearby Cochise County communities of Douglas and Portal didnt deserve to lose him. But all did some time on March 27. And why?

Theres plenty of blame to go around.

Lets allocate some of that blame. Maybe it will become obvious what we have to do to make sure we dont lose more good people in this fashion.

Most of the blame falls on the Mexican drug cartels. They are willing to do anything for money. The Mexican government has been unsuccessful in curbing their reign of terror. It is almost as though the cartels are fighting it out to prove one or more of them is the government.

Next, blame goes to the United States government. Notwithstanding many requests, federal officials have failed and refused to militarize the border which desperately needs military control. When Janet Napolitano was governor of Arizona, she seemed to understand the problem, not that she ever did anything about it. Now that she is in Washington, she serves only her beltway masters. No Army troops for the border. Not even National Guard troops are allowed.

One way the feds ensure that Arizona will not put National Guard troops on the border is by calling them up for deployment to Afghanistan. And thats where members of the Arizona National Guard are headed this month to Afghanistan when they are needed in Douglas.

But President Obama has bigger plans for the border. Heap blame on him. He wants illegals to flood across the border because he has plans to grant them amnesty so they can vote. They will vote Democratic, and thats more important to him than the lives of a few Americans living on the border.

To be fair, we ought to assign some small amount of blame to the farmers and ranchers who refuse to get out while the gettins good. They are living in a war zone. Thats not a good idea.

What can we do about it? There isnt much we can do about the Mexican government or even the Mexican drug cartels. But there is something we can do about the U.S. government. We have to make it clear to the bozos in Washington that we will no longer tolerate being deprived of the services of our National Guard. If the feds want to fight a war in Afghanistan, that is what the regular Army is for. We must demand that the Arizona National Guard be released for service in Arizona. And we must demand they be adequately armed to meet the challenge.

And we must make certain the Washington politicians understand that we will not permit illegal aliens to vote. Well do this by denying them entry.

This is the only way we will ever get our state back. Otherwise, well wake up one day and find ourselves living in Aztln with bandits running wild in the streets.

And if we dont do that, then the bulk of the blame must fall on ourselves. This is still the United States of America. This is our country. We make the rules. We must enforce them.

Mexicans Facing Drug War Violence Could Seek Political Asylum in U.S.

By Ed Barnes

- FOXNews.com

The violent drug wars in Mexico could upend efforts to curb illegal immigrants.

In this March 26, 2010 file photo, a crossing guard holds up a stop sign as a parent and child cross the street to get to school at Fort Hancock, Texas. Fear has settled over this border town of 1,700, about 50 miles southeast of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, epicenter of that country's bloody drug war. Mexican families fleeing the violence have moved here or just sent their children, and authorities and residents say gangsters have followed them across the Rio Grande to apply terrifying, though so far subtle, intimidation.

The spreading violence of the drug wars along the Mexican border may have one unintended consequence. It could upend efforts to curb illegal immigrants by giving Mexican border-crossers a tool they never had before: a valid claim for political asylum.

For decades, immigrants coming from Mexico were denied asylum because Mexico was a stable and relatively peaceful democracy. But that is changing now.

Last week, at least 30 Mexicans from the town of El Porvenir walked to the border crossing post at Fort Hancock, Texas, and asked for political asylum. Ordinarily, their claim would be denied as groundless, and they would be turned back. Instead, they were taken to El Paso, where they expect to have their cases heard.

No one doubts that they have a strong claim. Their town on the Mexican side of the border is under siege by one or more drug cartels battling for control of the key border crossing. According to Mike Doyle, the chief deputy sheriff of Hudspeth County, Texas, one of the cartels has ordered all residents of the town of 10,000 to abandon the city within the next month.

"They came in and put up a sign in the plaza telling everyone to leave or pay with their own blood," Doyle said. Since then there has been a steady stream of El Porvenir residents seeking safety on the American side of the border, both legally and illegally. Among them are the 30 who are seeking political asylum.

In recent days the situation in the impoverished, dusty border town has grown worse. According to Jose Franco, the superintendent of schools in Fort Hancock, the cartels have threatened to execute children in school unless parents pay 5000 pesos in protection money.

And on Wednesday night, according to Doyle, several houses in El Porvenir were set on fire, and there were reports of cars loaded with furniture leaving the town.

Authorities fear that an incident might spark a mass exodus by the residents of El Porvenir that might cause them all to surge across the border at once.

Doyle says there are no plans yet to set up camps for an influx of refugees. "There is just no way to plan for that," he said. "We are waiting to see what happens. We will use the standard natural disaster procedures if it happens -- the Red Cross and housing at the schools, and if it gets worse, the state and the federal government will have to step in."

If political asylum is granted and made available to a large section of the Mexican population, immigration experts say, it could have implications far beyond El Porvenir. They say it could open the floodgates for a new wave of immigration from Mexico, much as allowing Chinese to seek political asylum because of China's one-child policy created a huge migration when it happened. After that ruling, tens of thousands of Chinese boarded boats and planes and told immigration officials they were seeking asylum because they were allowed to have only one child. Most were granted immigration papers and allowed to stay. Even those who made spurious claims were granted a hearing and often simply disappeared.

According to Will Matthews, an American Civil Liberties Union spokesman, the wall that has kept Mexicans from requesting political asylum has already cracked. He says that a decision by Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) to send an police informant, Guillermo Eduardo Ramirez-Peyro, back to Mexico was overturned by the federal Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, which found that asylum could be granted to him and others based on the Convention Against Torture.

"The court said that under the convention, 'acquiescence by government officials that could lead to a petitioner's harm' was grounds to grant political asylum," he said. The court, however, did not grant asylum; it ordered the BIA to rehear the case. Last week, after five years, the BIA reversed course and granted Ramirez-Peyro political asylum.

According to Shuya Ohno of Reform Immigration for America, even if hundreds or thousands of Mexicans sought asylum because of the drug wars, it is not likely that many would get it. "It is a hard case to make and very few succeed," he said. "Often it requires that those committing repression or threatening harm admit to it."

However, he said, it is likely if that if thousands of Mexicans made the claim, "it would stress the system incredibly" as well as delay their deportations. He said that the immigration court system is already overloaded and often staffed by volunteers just to keep it moving, and that if it was flooded with asylum claims it would be in danger of failing.

Ira Mehlman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) said the situation was troubling. "The entire system of political asylum claims was set up for a different era," he said. "It was to protect people from repressive governments but now is being used when there is just a general breakdown of order."

He said that making a political asylum claim available to Mexicans along the border could result in a swamping of the already overloaded system and bring it to a grinding halt. "Once an avenue of appeal is opened, then it will become used" he said. And not just by those who qualify, but by thousands who don't.

Sr. Reporter: Andrew Thomas is latest candidate to use rancher's murder in campaign

Tim Steller Arizona Daily Star | Posted: Friday, April 2, 2010 2:30 pm | Comments

The murder of Cochise County rancher Rob Krentz has injected passion into this year's political campaigns, as some candidates position themselves as the ones with the answer to the problem that left Krentz dead.

The latest is Andrew Thomas. He announced yesterday that he is resignng as Maricopa County Attorney to run for Arizona Attorney General. His campaign prepared a video of Thomas at the Arizona-Mexico border fence, speaking with Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever about the murder of Krentz.

But Thomas is just the latest of many politicians to weigh in on the meaning of Krentz' death -- or to take a potshot at an opponent. The biggest battle has come in the Republican primary campaign pitting former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth against U.S. Sen. John McCain. Hayworth put out a press release on Tuesday, accusing McCain of making an election-year conversion into a border-security hawk.

McCain's campaign responded, "It is despicable and offensive that Congressman Hayworth would attempt to exploit a family's tragedy to score cheap political points."

The candidates for U.S. Representative in congressional district 8 have also weighed in. The Pima County Republican Party and Republican candidate Jesse Kelly both called incumbent Gabrielle Giffords a latecomer to caring about border security. Giffords' communications director, C.J. Karamargin, replied in words almost identical to those of McCain's campaign: "It is despicable that anyone would exploit the murder of Robert Krentz to score political points."

But the Krentz family itself is willing to use Rob Krentz' murder as a jumping-off point into policy debates. In a statement, they urged Pres. Obama to send active-duty military to the Arizona-Mexico border.

Many candidates have been quick to arrive at conclusions about who killed Krentz. Most commonly, they've assumed that the killer was a drug smuggler from Mexico, though little about the killer's identity is known, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Department. Attorney General and governor candidate Terry Goddard went much further in this new interview with KPNX TV in Phoenix. He said "The person who apparently committed this murder was a trained professional."

Things Can Only Get Worse
Glenn Spencer -- American Patrol Report -- April 3
Feature Image
Packing heat on the drug trail
Yesterday The Attorney General of Arizona said he believes Rob Krentz was killed by a Mexican drug scout looking for a stash of drugs. This is exactly what I suggested to the Herald / Review last Tuesday.
Last year we reported that smugglers were burying drugs on a ranch near where Krentz was murdered so it was no surprise that someone might be looking for such a stash.
As reported in the Herald / Review story: "It is my theory that the violence in Mexico is being precipitated by increased border enforcement and they are fighting each other over a diminishing pie. Each drug load or each stash of money becomes even more important," said Spencer.
We must remember that drug smuggling involves billions of dollars and there are accounts payable and accounts receivable out there in the drug world. Now, with the increased attention paid to the border, it is certain that smugglers will face an even greater challenge. Some may be relying on a given load to pay off a creditor. If he doesn't, he may be killed. So, who should die him, or the American who got in his way?
So long as our government takes a piece-meal approach to the problem, things can only get worse.
Today's whole approach by the Cartelistas EXUDES confidence, strength, and POWER.

The "Nation" of Mexico is not under "Siege".

It's fallen to the besiegers....DAMMIT !

MEXICO UNDER SIEGE
Mexico drug gangs turn weapons on army
In northern states this week, gunmen fought troops and sought to confine some to their bases by cutting off access and blocking roads. The aggression shows they are not afraid to challenge the army.

April 2, 2010

Reporting from Mexico City - Drug traffickers fighting to control northern Mexico have turned their guns and grenades on the Mexican army, authorities said, in an apparent escalation of warfare that played out across multiple cities in two border states.

In coordinated attacks, gunmen in armored cars and equipped with grenade launchers fought army troops this week and attempted to trap some of them in two military bases by cutting off access and blocking highways, a new tactic by Mexico's organized criminals.

In taking such aggressive action, the traffickers have shown that they are not reluctant to challenge the army head-on and that they possess good intelligence on where the army is, how it moves and when it operates.

At least 18 alleged attackers were killed and one soldier wounded in the fighting that erupted Tuesday in half a dozen towns and cities in the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon, the army said, topping off one of the deadliest months yet in a drug war that has raged for nearly 3 1/2 years.

The U.S. Consulate in Monterrey issued a warning to Americans who might be traveling in northern Mexico for the Easter break, citing the sudden outbreaks of gun battles in Nuevo Leon and neighboring states.

Traffickers previously have fought with army patrols, but the attempt to blockade garrisons came after weeks of an intense, bloody power struggle between two rival organizations, the Gulf cartel and its erstwhile paramilitary allies, the Zetas, to control the region bordering South Texas.

Part of the strategy of Tuesday's assaults may have been to prevent the army from patrolling, to give the drug gangs a freer hand in their fight against each other.

"This really speaks to the incredible organization and firepower that the drug-trafficking organizations have managed to muster," said Tony Payan, a border expert at the University of Texas at El Paso. "These are organizations that are flexible, supple and quick to react and adapt. They no doubt represent a challenge to the Mexican state."

In Reynosa, one of the scenes of Tuesday's fighting, the local government put out alerts Thursday for residents to avoid parts of the city. Residents said they heard gunfire and saw military armored personnel carriers moving through neighborhoods. One person was reported killed.

"People hear gunfire and get scared," said Jaime Aguirre, a radio talk show host. "But it's better to keep quiet and not hear anything so as not to risk reprisals."

Reynosa resident Yenni Gandiaga was driving to the gas station Tuesday morning when she heard gunfire getting closer and louder. Then she saw the troops and the gunmen. She turned down a side street to hide, crashing into two other cars in the process.

"People ran about screaming, picking up their children," she said. She hid in a stranger's house. When she emerged after the combatants moved on, the windows of storefronts and cars were shattered.

The Mexican Defense Ministry in Mexico City put out a blow-by-blow account of Tuesday's events. Taking a page from a manual on urban guerrilla warfare, gunmen struck at the same time Tuesday morning, and then again in the afternoon.

In Reynosa, a city in Tamaulipas state across the border from McAllen, Texas, gunmen positioned trucks, cars and trailers on a highway to block Campo Militar, an army base, about 11 a.m. At almost the same time, they blocked a garrison in the city of Matamoros, about 60 miles to the east. In Rio Bravo, between the two cities, traffickers battled with army patrols.

Later in the day, troops and traffickers clashed in other Tamaulipas towns and in neighboring Nuevo Leon state.

The army said it confiscated armored cars, grenade launchers, about 100 military-grade grenades, explosive devices and about 13,000 rounds of ammunition. Seven men were captured.

"The actions by these criminal organizations are a desperate reaction to the advances made by federal authorities in coordination with state and municipal security forces," Gen. Edgar Luis Villegas said.

It was not clear whether the fighting the army reported was with the Zetas or the stronger Gulf cartel. Most of the violence has been cartel against cartel, with some bystanders getting caught in the cross-fire. The gangs have also attacked police stations in many areas.

The Zetas, founded as a group of mercenary former soldiers working for the Gulf group, split away in a bid to take over part of the lucrative drug trade. They are fighting to seize territory from the Gulf network in Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon, amid reports that other strong cartels, such as the one based in Sinaloa, may be uniting with the Gulf traffickers to wipe out the Zetas.

Dozens of people, primarily traffickers, have been killed in recent weeks as the two groups clashed in the broad triangle along the border from Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey to Reynosa and Matamoros. Traffickers have flexed their muscle by repeatedly setting up roadblocks, closing highways and tying up traffic even in Monterrey, a major city.

"It is a risky tactic because it has the potential of angering society, but it is a very effective show of power," said Martin Barron, a researcher at a Mexico City think tank.

The increased agility of the drug gangs seen in Tuesday's violence indicates good intelligence, experts here and abroad said. Some of that intelligence comes from taxi drivers, street vendors and scores of other people on the traffickers' payroll who serve as lookouts for drug runners and their henchmen. But Payan and others suggested that some of the precise, street-level intelligence may come from soldiers, adding substance to fear that as the army is increasingly dragged into the drug war it is becoming susceptible to the same cartel-financed corruption that has long corroded police departments and many political structures.

In Ciudad Juarez, Mexico's deadliest city and where the army has been deployed in greatest force, federal police are to begin taking over security duties this month as the army is gradually withdrawn, the government said. The army has been criticized for rights abuses, including the disappearance of detainees and illegal searches.

By one newspaper's count, the drug war's death toll in March was the highest yet, more than 1,000.

Why the silence from Janet Napolitano about putting troops on the border?

Eight days ago, Homeland Security
Secretary Janet Napolitano announced significant progress in securing the border in the year since President Barack Obama launched his Southwest Border Initiative. Words like decisive action, sustained security efforts and major progress were employed.

One day later, Rob Krentz was dead, shot to death just 20 miles from the border on land his family has ranched since before Arizona became a state. Investigators tracked a set of footprints from the scene of the shooting to the border and it's widely believed that he was killed by a drug smuggler.

Krentz's death prompted Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to renew her 13-month-old call for the feds to send National Guard troops to the border, a call echoed by Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Democratic New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson flat out ordered the New Mexico National Guard to the border on Wednesday, saying I want residents in southern New Mexico to know we are taking this border violence very seriously.

Meanwhile in Washington, we saw the sort of bold, decisive action we've long come to expect from the feds when it comes to the border. Napolitano offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Krentz's killer.

This, from a woman who two years ago pleaded with her predecessor for troops at the border.
Napolitano's press aides didn't return a call to explain this week's curious lack of response from the official now responsible for the security of the homeland presumably including the open back door here in her own home state.

Who knows? Maybe she's just taking orders from her boss, Barack Obama. Or maybe she's forgotten who she is or was.

In 2003, then-Gov. Napolitano opposed Republican state legislators who wanted to put National Guard troops on the border, arguing correctly that border security was the job of the federal government. Three years later, she announced that she would send troops to the border as long as the feds paid for it. Later that year, they did.

Six thousand troops were deployed as part of Operation Jump Start, 2,400 of them in Arizona. I didn't think much of it at the time given that guardsmen weren't allowed to, you know, actually guard the border. But the program was a rousing success as guardsmen assisted in catching 176,000 illegal crossers and helped seize more than 300,000 pounds of incoming marijuana and 5,000 pounds of cocaine.

So naturally, George Bush sent the troops home.

As the program was winding down in the spring of 2008, Napolitano made a plea to then-Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to leave troops at the border until the virtual fence became operational in 2011 (or as it now turns out, never).

The federal government has no excuse to scale back the program, Napolitano wrote to Chertoff in March 2008. Common sense dictates that the drawdown should stop and that a continued high National Guard presence should be maintained.

In April 2008, she warned congressional leaders that halting the operation in July would be irresponsible.

Nine months later, Napolitano took over for Chertoff. Last April, on her first trip back to Arizona, Napolitano was asked about requests from Brewer and Texas Gov. Rick Perry to return the Guard to the border.

The president ... really has asked questions particularly of the governor of Texas, who was the first one to request it, saying, 'Where would they go, what missions would they perform?,' " Napolitano replied.

When we did Jump Start here, it was to help us build the fence along this portion of the border. The National Guard issue, without being state-specific, is under consideration.

Under consideration. That was 12 months and one dead rancher ago.

One wonders what it'll take to reach a conclusion.

After the murder of Arizona rancher, Robert Krentz, residents and lawmakers alike have called for National Guard to be placed on border, however President Obama and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano remain silent on the issue.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll puts an exclamation point on what Americans want when it comes to the U.S./Mexico border 72 percent want the military placed on the border while 16 percent are happy with the status quo.

Arizona Senator John McCains (R-AZ) recent flip-flop when it comes to placing the military on the nations southern borders. The fact McCain is competing in his toughest primary race ever against conservative J.D. Hayworth have many speculating about McCains switch from his 2007 amnesty push to protecting the nations borders from the escalating drug cartel violence.

After the former presidential contender met with state officials, he sent a letter to the former governor of Arizona, Napolitano.

According to the letter McCain claims; For years, I have called on the President to send National Guard troops to the border in an effort to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and narcotics. Most recently, I supported Governor Jan Brewer's request to place troops along Arizonas border with Mexico. Unfortunately that request was rejected by this Administration. A year later, in light of the recent incidents and the continued growth of drug violence along the border, I am asking you and the Administration to immediately reconsider your position and send National Guard troops to our southern border region.

This is contrary to Senator McCains position when he was pushing illegal immigration reform with Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) a few years ago.

The U.S. must show its support for our neighbor to the south and support the Mexican people and the Calderon Administration in this fundamental struggle against lawlessness and corruption, the letter further reads.

The people of Arizona and the United States demand and deserve secure borders. McCain also plays on the heart strings by informing Napolitano the residents along the Arizona borders need to feel protected and safe from the throngs on illegals trekking into the U.S. each day must be a top priority.

I look forward to a swift and decisive response to this situation, McCain said. While the letter is a step in the right direction and many Arizonians applaud the rhetoric, most believe it is simply more empty words.

However, after promising amnesty and not delivering it, the Obama Administration is adamant about not further alienating the Latino population and activist groups like La Raza. Most reform-minded folks want the floodgates to remain open so cheap labor can operate in a business as usual manner.

Three of the four border state governors are also demanding the National Guard be deployed to the Southern border region. Californias Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only state leader who has not weighed in on the recent violence in Arizona.

The lame duck governor suffers from extremely low approval numbers, just 23 percent of Californians approve of the terminator s job performance, according to the recent Field Poll. His silence is likely to put a Democrat governor into the state capitol.

Schwarzeneggers falling job approval can be directly linked to his weakness regarding border issues. For example the kidnapping and gang-style violence is creeping across the southern borders at an alarming rate.

A former Tijuana, Mexico Police officer was just arrested on suspicion of kidnapping in Los Angeles.

The suspect, Cesar Ariel Zapata-Landeros told an informant he was planning a kidnapping of a Tustin, California child. Zapata-Landeros planned to forcefully snatch the child, demand a $300,000 ransom and cut off fingers to encourage the family to comply with the ransom demands.

Thankfully the FBI intervened and arrested the suspect who had ties to the family and performed security work in the past.

California is one of the main destinations of choice for illegals. Just nine months ago a Mexican national trying to sneak into the U.S executed Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas near the border.

The violence continues unabated along the Texas border as well. A few weeks back three Americans who worked at the U.S. Consulate were targeted and murdered in Juarez, Mexico. The reason is simple - brazen drug cartels.

The war rages on and as the body count rises it has become clear Americas borders are more open than ever.

Death and dishonor in Cochise County
Posted: April 03, 2010
1:00 am Eastern

 2010

A week ago today, third-generation Arizona rancher Rob Krentz was murdered on his ranch 15 miles from the Mexican border. Border Patrol and sheriff's deputies followed the assailant's tracks back to the border. It may be too much to hope that our national self-delusion about border security on the cheap also died that day.

The myth of border security is the grand self-delusion of our governing class, but Obama's secretary of homeland security has fortified this delusion with persistent lies about the border fence. It's time to stop the lies and face the truth: We have no border security.

The belief that our border security is "imperfect but adequate" is a gold-plated bipartisan charade, the kind of charade that never goes out of season in Washington, D.C. There are Republicans as well as Democrats who perpetuate the lie of border security. Why? It allows the amnesty parade to move forward while denying there is any price to be paid. Dick Armey, Grover Norquist and Lindsey Graham are prominent Republican cheerleaders in this farce.

Rob Krentz was not a crusader; he was not a Minuteman or a political activist of any kind. He was a rancher whose family roots in Cochise County go back to 1907. Over the past 15 years, like many Cochise County residents, he and his brother had spoken publicly about the financial and human costs of the rising tide of intruders crossing their land the vandalized water lines, dead cattle, robberies, car-jackings, assaults and home break-ins.

Concerned about the impact of illegal aliens on the United States? Don't miss Tom Tancredo's book, "In Mortal Danger: The Battle for America's Border and Security"

The Krentz ranch is less than 15 miles from the Arizona-Mexico border, and on most of the border east of Douglas there is no real fence to halt intruders. For 15 years, like their neighbors, the Krentz family asked again and again for increased Border Patrol protection, and again and again their pleas were ignored. In February of 2003, I visited that region and met the Krentz family, and on March 25 of that year I spoke about him on the floor of Congress. I called him one of the "homeland heroes" in Cochise County who struggle to live out the American dream on the front lines of the border invasion. But despite the warnings, the invasion continued, and the lies about border security continued.

Open-borders enthusiasts in Congress and the media cannot allow the murder of Rob Krentz to be seen and acknowledged for what it is: an indictment of open-borders policies. Thus, the guardians of open-borders orthodoxy have kept Rob Krentz's murder off the front page and invisible to most Americans. The last thing our Washington overseers want is an open and honest debate about the true state of border security.

The indisputable fact is that contrary to the official DHS border fence map, there is no border fence to interrupt the work of drug smugglers or thousands of illegal-alien trespassers on a 25-mile stretch of border directly south of the Krentz ranch. What Janet Napolitano and her few Republican allies insist on calling a fence is only a vehicle barrier, and it stops not one single intruder. I have seen the video from a hidden camera on one of the trails in that Cochise County corridor in early March. It shows a steady stream of intruders. That daily stream produces on average 500 to 1,000 border invaders each day. And that is but one trail of many. Do the math.

In the debate over amnesty in Congress in 2006 and 2007, Republican advocates like John McCain and Lindsey Graham discovered that Americans would not even consider the idea of another amnesty unless we first secured our borders. They discovered that 80 percent of Americans want secure borders, which meant more Border Patrol officers, more fencing and better use of technology.

(Column continues below)

At that point, the amnesty lobby had two choices. The government could do the right thing and secure our borders so we could then have a debate over what to do about the 15 to 20 million illegal aliens already here. Or they could pretend to secure the borders and hope no one noticed they were lying. We know which path they took. Congress passed the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and the charade of building pseudo-fences began.

After Obama's inauguration, even the modest and inadequate efforts of the Bush administration were put on hold by his DHS appointee, Janet Napolitano. New pedestrian fence construction was halted, and the expansion of Border Patrol manpower was reversed. There are fewer Border Patrol agents on the Arizona-Mexico border today than in December of 2008.

It's not one death on the border that is the outrage. Our outrage comes from Obama's and Napolitano's contempt for the truth about border security, which is a contempt for the safety of our communities and our nation. Three border state governors have now called for Obama to send the National Guard to the border. The response from the Obama White House? They will "continue to monitor" the situation.

Napolitano has lost any credibility as the guardian of homeland security. She must go.

Not as a panacea, of course, but as another potentionally useful tool, I'd like to see the Border Patrol douse border-crossers with indelible dye from aircraft, as fire-fighters air-drop retardent spray.

Some wetbacks would go back.

The rest would be easy to ID.

Locals would be less likely to start shooting.

Nice to see back among the living Ken!!!

They definitely have to do something, or it could become very unhealthy down there.

Later...
Good Morning Sir, and HAPPY EASTER !

Other than the traffic control problems associated with linear patrol, the more aircraft we can apply to "controlling and patrolling", the better.

We've had a VERY heavy emphasis on rotary wing, V. Fixed wing, the cost of which has been nothing short of STAGGERING, particularly in view of the undeniably FAILED mission.

Small fixed wing STAL birds like the Turbo Porter would be a very practical choice to supplement the helos.

I'm about to fall out of my chair giggling at the scenario that would likely arise from aerial "Dousing". The open borders "Human Rights" crew would have a cow over that one.

Viewers flood KGUN9 with border security comments
Posted: Apr 03, 2010 2:03 PM Updated: Apr 03, 2010 2:37 PM

Viewers have inundated KGUN9 News this week with commentary on border security issues. The security debate erupted anew last weekend following the murder of popular rancher Robert Krentz. In fact, few subjects in recent memory have sparked such an outcry to KGUN9. Traffic on this subject even rivals the volume of comments we received over health care reform.

"Guest" wrote: "While I appreciate that it is a serious matter when someone is murdered and while I do not know the full circumstances. WHY MUST THE STATE OF ARIZONA ASK FOR THE NATIONAL GUARD? DON'T WE SPEND ENOUGH ON POLICE OF VARIOUS KINDS AND LEVELS? How much would our good friends in Phoenix scream if the President called our fine Governor and said, 'I don't like what is going on in Arizona, and I think that there is a clear and present danger, so I am sending in the National Guard.' Wow, the screaming would be heard all the way to the border."

"Dennis L": "Arizona should deploy the National Guard the same as New Mexico has done. The primary function of government is to provide a defense against foreign powers. The rest of the country unfortunately does not grasp the gravity of the border problem yet and it may take sometime before Washington gets it. In order to awaken the rest of the Union to the danger, Arizona must spend the money for the first line of defence. It is a shame that the Arts, Education, Social Programs and Justice System must take the budget hits, but we must keep our priorities straight."

"Gary A": "The governor has the ability to deploy the Arizona National Guard. Why doesn't the Governor take the same actions that the Governor of New Mexico did yesterday. He deployed the NM National Guard to patrol the border."

"AmericanP8triot": "Sad that this issue is coming to this. This is a matter of national security, but the current administration is ignoring it. This is insane. Obama needs to get his head out of his [deleted] and defend the borders.... Rest in Peace Robert Krentz... condolences to his family."

"Anonymous:" This morning you spoke with John McCain regarding the border issues. It upset me to hear him blame President Obama for not handling the problem. The illegals coming across the border got dramatically worse during the Bush Administration and he did little. The failed attempts cost us an enormous amount of money, but those were Bush policies not Obama's. Obama has been cleaning up after the Republicans ever since he took office.... We also need a legal means for Mexicans that want to move here to come legally, so they can pay taxes and are not a burden on Americans.... I'm confident that Obama will work on this issue and make progress, like he has in dealing with all the other messes that he inherited. McCain has been in the Senate a long time, and nothing worthwhile has been done to secure our borders and reduce illegal immigration. It's a joke for him to now blame Obama."

Ray Bouton of Palominas: "John 'Amnesty' McCain is partially to blame for Robert Krentz' death. We in Cochise County have been asking that something be done about the illegal alien invasion for years. Now in the wake of this tragedy these politicians will use it to their purpose of scoring political points for their re-elections. Put the U.S. Military on the border!!"

TWo viewers also commented on the difficulty, as documented in KGUN9 reports, of getting the White House to even respond -- yes, no, or maybe -- to the request to send in the National Guard.

"Mike": "What? Obama keep an campaign promise? Transparency is only important when you're a presidential candidate, not the president. Watch how many people fall for his same BS speeches in the next election even after they have proof that he lies."

"Deborah" of Green Valley thought we were being a little whiney in reporting on the difficulty of prying loose an answer from the Obama administration, a process one of our reports described as "painful." She wrote: "Painful? Really? Investigative reporting? I kinda thought that's what the media is supposed to do."

Here's a word of explanation about that. As we state in our Viewers' Bill of Rights, KGUN9 believes public officials have a duty to respond to the public about the public's business. Yes, that does include the President. He's an incredibly busy man, obviously. But this is an important issue. Governor Jan Brewer has been asking the administration for more than a year to send in the National Guard. An answer of "no" is one thing. But the governor told us those requests had failed to elicit a response of any kind. NOw, many other politicians and citizens are making the same request. Do the governor and people of the great state of Arizona not rate an answer from the President? We think they do. As part of our news philosophy, we do make the level of responsiveness we get from public officials part of our reporting. And that is why we were so persistent, and why we reported extensively on our efforts even on the day when we struck out completely. That said, to the credit of the Obama administration, we finally did get an answer (I believe we were the only news organization in the state to get one, but I could be wrong about that). In my experience previous administrations have been even less responsive. (BTW - the office of Homeland Security boss and former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano told us that if we want to speak with her about these issues, to file a request, take a number and expect to wait at least a month, maybe two).

In addition to smacking us around for whining, "Deborah" also makes these points: "What a terrible tragedy that this poor man was murdered near the border. Sadly, not a surprise, tho. AZ is fast becoming a police state - we have county sheriffs, police, state police, border patrol, reservation police, fish and game police, ICE, sheriff's and BP helicopters flying over our homes at all hours of the day and night. BUT, they're not ON THE BORDER. Instead, we have hundreds of gigantic gas-guzzling SUVs driving up and down I-19 all day (speeding AND wasting gas) because their headquarters is in Tucson, 75 miles away, instead of ON THE BORDER. It might be beneficial for the National Guard to be assigned to the border again. It would be even more helpful to have the Border Patrol ON THE BORDER."

Something for the Chopper Jocks

Photo of the day,...and some text,......These things fly RIGHT over my place on their standard ingress / egress,

GTC

As noted earlier today,......THIS will be the week that whatever serious MSM "attention" that's gonna' get paid,....gets paid.

Call it a hunch,

Border Fence Under Renewed Fire After Rancher Killing

The killing of Arizona rancher Robert Krentz allegedly by an illegal immigrant has some critics pointing out that hundreds of miles of U.S.-Mexico border fencing isn't even high enough to stop a person on foot.

Of the 646 miles of barriers currently constructed along the 2,000-mile southern border of the United States, 300 miles are vehicle barriers, according to the Department of Homeland Security. That means they're meant to keep out cars and trucks, but aren't high enough to keep out people crossing the border illegally on foot.

Fencing in place just south of the Krentz family ranch in southeastern Arizona is exactly that kind of vehicle barrier, plus there's a sizable gap in the fence nearby.

Residents and officials say the security barrier is simply ineffective, and that the killing last month is shining a light on the problem.

Rancher Wendy Glenn, Krentz's longtime friend and neighbor who heard the man's last radio transmission to his brother, said she has roughly 4 miles of border fence along Malpai Ranch. The "wildlife-friendly" barrier -- one that allows large animals and determined people to pass through freely -- ranges from large Normandy-style "X" crosses to standard posts and rails, topping off at no more than six feet high, she said.

"It doesn't keep any people out," Glenn told FoxNews.com on Monday. "We don't want any more fence here. We want more people on the border. No matter what they put in, they're going to tunnel under, cut through, or use ladders. We don't need that."

Glenn characterized the border fence as a "big waste of money" and called for increased federal presence along the remote areas, as well increased communication among law enforcement agencies.

"We need more people on the border," she said. "And we need more horse patrols -- they are awesome."

Jenny Burke, a spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said 646 of approximately 670 miles of pedestrian and vehicle border fencing has been constructed as of March 26. Just six miles of fencing infrastructure remains to be completed along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border, Burke said.

The roughly 1,350 miles that will not be protected by a border fence of any kind will be patrolled by border agents, other infrastructure or technology, Burke said, or a combination of all three.

Pedestrian fencing used along the border is determined by the geography and have several variations, including steel picket-style fences set in concrete, blockades similar to those found around federal buildings and concrete walls with steel mesh. Vehicle fences, meanwhile, are about 6 feet tall and are typically large Normandy-style crosses.

"And they're all welded together," she said. "So they're impossible to move."

Burke said areas selected for physical fences are locations where illegal immigrants could easily blend in with local surroundings if those individuals successfully crossed the border.

During a tour of the border along Fort Hancock, Texas, last week, Border Patrol Agent Joe Romero said security in the area was improving despite rising fears in the community that drug cartel-related violence in El Porvenir, Mexico, could spill over into the U.S. town at any moment. Still, threats remain, he said.

"At no point am I going to indicate that we have full control of the border, or that we're 100 percent secure on the border," Romero told FoxNews.com. "It's still a struggle, there's still some work to be done. But we've made huge strides."

Romero, one of about 2,600 U.S. Border Patrol agents scouring the 125,000-square mile El Paso sector, extending from Fort Hancock to the New Mexico-Arizona state line, said apprehensions in the area have fallen approximately tenfold in the last four years, from roughly 122,000 in fiscal year 2006 to about 15,000 last year.

The border fence in Fort Hancock roughly 50 miles southeast from Ciudad Juarez, the epicenter of Mexico's ongoing drug war, stands about 20 feet tall in some areas and is entirely absent in others. And along some stretches of land between Fort Hancock and Tornillo, Texas, the nearest town, all that separates the U.S. and Mexico is the ankle-deep Rio Grande River.

Despite its perception as a cure-all blockade, Romero said the border fence is meant to deter large groups of illegal immigrants from entering the country illegally. It's also meant to slow down any would-be border-crossers, giving crucial seconds to roving border patrols in trucks, all-terrain vehicles and on horseback.

Former Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, whose touchstone issue is illegal immigration, told FoxNews.com the federal government needs to ideally have a "layered" fence along with National Guard patrol along the entire southern border. A layered fence is a barrier that includes a fence, a road and another fence.

But he said the hundreds of miles of fencing along the border now are not effective.

"That's what's so maddening," Tancredo said.

"It doesn't stop people," said Charles Heatherly, executive director of Tancredos Rocky Mountain Foundation. "It's a lie."

Heatherly said in an e-mail to FoxNews.com that the kind of fence by Krentz's home is incapable of stopping "drug smugglers like the one who killed Rob Krentz."

It's unclear who killed Krentz, but local authorities said they suspected an illegal immigrant since footprints near the scene of the crime led back to the Mexican border.

Mexicans up in (fire) arms

A Mexican citizens organization, National Confederation of Popular Organizations (CNOP), advised that in 2009, Mexican authorities seized 29,000 firearms, 95 percent of which were made and sold in the US. In an interview, Edmundo Ramirez, Secretary of International and Migratory Affairs of the CNOP, complained that these arms have entered Mexico illegally by land, many through border ports of entry. Ramirez pointed out that not even countries at war in any period of time had received 770 arms per day, legally or illegally, as Mexico has received in the past 14 months. He said that an analysis reveals that the sale of arms in the US in the first months of 2010 and all of 2009 increased 18 percent because of the demand on major arsenals on the part of bands of Mexican narcotraffickers and criminals. According to the Mexican security agencies, they were only able to intercept 10 percent of the total arms and ammo that entered illegally. Ramirez said that according to data from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Phoenix, AZ, sales of high caliber handguns have increased 50 percent within the past 14 months. He indicated that part of the firearms traffic into Mexico is carried out by individuals who buy the arms for organized crime and then smuggle them in their autos to deliver them to the criminals. (Ed. note: It has already been shown that the 95% figure that continues to be bandied about by both governments is based only on the 18% of weapons serial numbers provided by the Mexican authorities to the US ATF. That would indicate that over 82% of the weapons Mexico seizes come from elsewhere, which include grenades, RPGs and high explosives not legally available in the US. Their figures routinely ignore Mexicos virtually unguarded southern border with Guatemala and its equally porous Pacific seaports.

Mexico offers 5 million pesos for murderers

Last December 16, the Mexican Naval Special Forces carried out a well-coordinated operation in Cuernavaca, Morelos that brought down drug kingpin Arturo Beltran Leyva, the boss of bosses. The operation resulted in the deaths of Beltran and six of his henchmen, but also cost the life of one of the Marines, Melquisedec Angulo Cordova. Following Angulos military funeral, a group of hired assassins were dispatched to the home of Angulos mother in Paraiso, Tabasco, and killed her and three other family members, apparently in retaliation for the blow struck to the criminal organization by the Marine operation. The killers have remained at large since the December 22 atrocity. Today, the Mexican federal Department of Justice (PGR) is offering a 5 million peso [$405,000] reward for information leading to the arrest of the assassins.

More violence in Tamaulipas

Another message via internet to Mexican news media by the governor of Tamaulipas reports that at least seven people were killed in Tampico in a clash between rival criminal groups. Among the dead were two women. Another three people were killed in a gunfight between prison guards and gunmen who assaulted the jail in Reynosa. The report did not include details about the victims. In another report from the information center, armed men in 10 vehicles burst into the offices of the penitentiary in Reynosa unleashing a firefight with the guards. As a result, three inmates were killed and order has been restored at the facility. This story concludes with a note that may explain the recent rise in criminal activity in the northeast of Mexico: In the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon, the Gulf cartel, allied with other groups, is carrying on a war with its former militant guard, Los Zetas, which began two months ago due to internal conflicts. (Note: there has been virtually nothing to report regarding crime from the Tamaulipas news media for quite some time. There are hints from other sources that such reporting is simply too risky. This may explain why news is now issued from the governors office.)

Update on Reynosa prison attack

Thirteen prisoners escaped after a group of armed men broke into the Reynosa, Tamaulipas, prison and killed three inmates [as reported yesterday ]. This additional information regarding the escapes comes from the Mexican federal justice department (PGR). This is the second collective attempt of prison escape in less than two months in the state of Tamaulipas. The governor had reported the death of three prisoners yesterday, but did not mention that 13 others had escaped. An agent of the PGR said that 31 prison guards are being interrogated in Reynosa, a city across the border from the cities of Hidalgo and Pharr, Texas. Last week, 40 members of the Gulf cartel were liberated from the prison in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

Fear thins population in Jurez Valley

The violence of the past few years in Ciudad Jurez, Chihuahua, and surrounding areas has caused hundreds of residents to relocate in the US and central Mexico. The towns of Guadalupe and Praxedis G. Guerrero in the Jurez Valley and the counties of Hudspeth and El Paso in Texas have been affected by this rise in organized crime. In the Jurez Valley, 80 people have been victims of mob killings so far in 2010. In Guadalupe, with a population of 4,700 residents, criminal elements have burned down 30 homes in less than a month. Many of those awaiting bus transportation along the Jurez -Porvenir highway say they abandoned their homes and are carrying their essential belongings on their backs because what is important now is saving their lives. Look, there is my house that my husband and I built 30 years ago, said a woman, seeing her home in flames set by the criminal gangs. For many, their option is to escape to Hudspeth County, Texas, just across the river. Not only are they fleeing the criminal violence, but also the operations of federal forces that have arrived by thousands to combat the cartels. The people feel disillusioned because the authorities have practically abandoned them.

War against narco is lost: El Mayo

According to drug boss Ismael Zambada, El Mayo, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa cartel, the war begun by the government against narcotraffic is lost because narco is in the society, ingrained like corruption. In a meeting with veteran Mexican news reporter Julio Scherer, Zambada said, The narco problem involves millions and the replacement of bosses come from that fact. The Mexican government has offered a reward of 2.3 million dollars [US] for the capture of El Mayo who is a close friend of El Chapo Guzman, leader of the cartel.

Wonder where the weaponry is really coming from? Check this out!

IMP (Russias Izhevsk Manufacturing Plant located in the Urals) announced in 2007 it would construct two separate factories in Venezuela, one to make AK-47s and the other to provide ammunition for the weapons. Both plants are scheduled to be completed by 2010.

The Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (IMP) has already manufactured and supplied 100,000 AK-103 assault rifles to Venezuela.

It seems that the Mexican government is suffering the results of all fascistic governments that deprive their citizens of self-defense. They apparently do not even trust their own military with guns. When they do have a victory, they seize the guns and herald the occassion with declarations that the U.S. provided them all. Yet , there are arms dealers all over the world, AK47s seem to be the most captured of all weapons and those are Russian!

Increased arms sales in the United States are blamed for increased violence in Mexico. I am sure that some of that statement is possibly true. However, American citizens increased insecurity and resulting purchase of legal arms is the reason for the spoke in domestic sales. Most of those stayed right where they were intended to be-safeguarding the health and safety of American citizens at home. The last few democratic administrations have been accompanied by increased crime, violence, illegal immigration and calls for gun confiscation. That is the insecurity Americans are buying guns for, that and the possibility of illegal incursions by Mexican mob groups along the border.
However, as usual, our own government is trying to diminish the second amendment by acepting non-existent blame for Mexican gunfire and terror in order to disarm our own still free citizens.

Once again, the Mexican press is BSing us when it comes to arms smuggling. We all know where this is going. It lends ammunition to those who would abolish our second amendment rights.

Fact:
. Only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S. (source: AFT*** While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico).

*** In 2007-2008, according to ATF Special Agent William Newell, Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF for tracing. Close to 6,000 were successfully traced and of those, 90 percent 5,114 to be exact, according to testimony in Congress by William Hoover were found to have come from the U.S.
But in those same two years, according to the Mexican government, 29,000 guns were recovered at crime scenes.

I DO NOT CONDONE traffiking in firearms to Mexico but I also DO NOT CONDONE our second amendment rights in this country being trampled to death. We need to establish permanent south bound checkpoints to intercept contraband going south.

Yes, this will inconvenience many travelers however if they dont like it, they dont have to go!

Wish I had 50 cents for every dollar I ever spent getting liquored up at Pelicos' and the Delfron club, along with the money I pissed off on the entertaining ladies of the Caballo Blanco and the Linda Vista. I have not been across the line in over 20 years now, and wouldn't go now if you put a gun to my head. Mexico has nothing I need, and we have no nned for any of them, over here. I'd be quite pleased to see the border sealed off tighter than a mason jar. I go to twon now, and realize, they might as well move the border up to Hwy 80, all signs and advertisment in storefronts is in spainish. Ive even the staff at the deli counter in Wallmart, when I am ordering up some thin sliced pastrami ask..."no habla espanol?"
We are being taken over, like a cancer, and I don't know if there is a damned thing we can do about it?

Focusing on the "Fence"
Killing of Krentz Exposes Fraud
Fox used this photo by Melissa Jaramillo of American Border Patrol to show what is on the border south of the Krentz ranch.
Fox News -- April 5
Border Fence Under Renewed Fire After Rancher Killing
The killing of Arizona rancher Robert Krentz allegedly by an illegal [alien] has some critics pointing out that hundreds of miles of U.S.-Mexico border fencing isn't even high enough to stop a person on foot.
[See Maps]
Fencing in place just south of the Krentz family ranch in southeastern Arizona is exactly that kind of vehicle barrier, plus there's a sizable gap in the fence nearby.
Residents and officials say the security barrier is simply ineffective, and that the killing last month is shining a light on the problem.
Red DotAmerican Patrol Report Comment: It took the cold-blooded murder of Rob Krentz to focus attention on the border fence. As we have reported many times, the problem facing ranchers such as Krentz has not been vehicles racing across the border - it has been foot-traffic. Illegal aliens and drug smugglers easily walk the 15 to 20 miles to Arizona Highway 80 where load vehicles pick them up. They do it in 4-5 hours. So what did the DHS do to stop this foot traffic? They built vehicle barriers. And what would the National Guard do to stop them? Very little. However distasteful it may be to some, the only thing that will really stop this nonsense is a double-layered fence.

Tom Sirmons: The killing of an Arizona rancher dramatizes a growing border crisis
Tom Sirmons, a freelance writer and former Los Angeles resident, lives in Florida.
Updated: 04/05/2010 10:15:17 AM PDT

THE last anyone heard from Arizona cattle rancher Robert Krentz was when he called in to say he'd encountered an illegal immigrant on his land.

That was the afternoon of March 27. That night, the bodies of Krentz and his dog were found near a watering hole on the 30,000-acre ranch that has been in the Krentz family for more than a century. Both were dead of gunshot wounds. Local police figure the cross-border intruder who shot them fled back into Mexico.

I'm not a big fan of anecdotal evidence. It's too easy to manufacture a crisis by telling a few stories of people severely affected by this or that. But the killing of Robert Krentz is drawing new attention to the alarming state of affairs on the U.S. border with Mexico.

The stretch to which the Krentz ranch is adjacent is especially active. The beleaguered Border Patrol estimates that several million illegal immigrants cross over the 2,000-mile long southern border every year. Obviously, they're not all staying. The interdiction effort is so overextended that huge numbers are able to cross back and forth on a regular basis. And the traffic in undocumented workers, ruinous as that has been for schools, hospitals and law enforcement throughout the Southwest, is the least of it.

The Mexican drug cartels smuggle thousands of tons of heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine across the border every year, the majority of it through Arizona. They use private and commercial vehicles, human "mules,"
Quantcast
tunnels and light planes to penetrate U.S. territory. The drugs are distributed to around 20,000 street gangs in 2,500 cities across the United States, representing a million gangbangers, who grip their neighborhoods in a reign of terror. Billions of illicit dollars flow back across the border to the cartels, which are growing in power. A federal report concludes their production of heroin alone has doubled in the last 12 months.

The murder of Robert Krentz serves as a tragic focal point. Countless thousands die in gang-related killings, of drug overdoses, or commit suicide in despair over their addiction - all directly attributable to the government's failure to carry out one of its primary responsibilities, securing the border. What little patience I had with hearing about the "plight" of illegal immigrants is exhausted. And I'm far from alone.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer wants the Obama administration to send in the National Guard to help police her state's porous border. If the feds continue to renege on their obligation, Brewer says she'll mobilize the Arizona Guard herself. But she's angry that the state might have to pay for a service that rightfully falls under the purview of Homeland Security. The administration is not stepping up, Brewer says.

If millions of pounds of illegal drugs flowing in from Mexico annually doesn't alarm you, what if it were tons of anthrax or high explosives? Don't think for a moment that terrorists somehow have missed the fact that the U.S.-Mexico border is an imaginary line in more ways than one. The time is coming, and doubtless is not far off, when they strike on our soil again. No one should be surprised on that dark day when we learn that the instrument of terror entered the United States across our southern border.

For every conceivable reason, the federal government must act quickly to stanch the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. Half-hearted stabs at building walls and using high-tech monitoring systems won't cut it. Neither will the Democrats' unwillingness to offend a reliable constituency - an unwillingness which, at its most cynical, equates future Democrat hegemony with amnesty programs and laws, such as those on the books in many Southern California cities forbidding police even to inquire about immigration status. It is the lowest form of political patronage.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has just returned from Mexico City, where she led a delegation aimed at coordinating efforts to quell cross-border drug trafficking and violence. Yeah, well, talk is cheap. This is an administration that proposes to spend trillions of dollars on an unworkable, unwanted scheme to socialize health care. Diverting a mere fraction of that money to border security would go a long way toward relieving overcrowded hospital emergency rooms in southwestern states, many of which have had to shut down because of the demands placed on them by indigent illegals.

Providing for the common defense is one of the fundamental duties of government as envisioned in the U.S. Constitution. Doesn't adequate policing of our borders seem pretty basic to that mandate?

Holy Smokes, this is not that complicated,......on the surface,
Horrifically so,....when studied in depth !

I'll toss out Ideas / Proposals, just don't call em' carved in stone. Call em' Strategic goals.

Flexability and RAPID adjustment of tactical doctrine is the mark of success......ask George Patton.

A.) First initiative.....Halt any further "Lateral Encroachment",....the established "Routes" being used are the Laterals,.....5 or 6 exist in Cochise and Santa Cruz counties alone,....They are basically "DMZs" laying on a North / South axis. Sound Infantry doctrine (not really my area) should be IMMEDIATELY applied to taking control of and establishing dominance over these Laterals. Capture and Incarceration of the Aggressors attacked in these laterals should be of SECONDARY concern. Air superiority is already ours, and should be used to fullest effect.

B.) Virtually in synch with the sanitization and re-ocupation of the Laterals,.....the actual designated International Border should be Massively reinforced, The United Nations having been advised that actions being executed there are NOT within their charter.....or any of THEIR business.

As an aside, .....it would be nice to have the EVICTION of the UN going foward in NYC,....again,....in Synch with Border ops." Diplomatic immunity " having been suspended, strip searches and arrests for Drug and other contraband should be excersized. All property of the United nations to be approriated,....and the "Members to be sent home in the clothes on their backs.

MASSIVE and flamboyant "Firepower Demonstrations would be good for beleaguered American National Morale,....and would give Cartelistas pause. A 10 Gun runs,....artillery fire, and perhaps as one good Bud of mine suggested some 'Arc light' shennanigans might be of merit.

The objective of this initial cataclysmic thrust is going to be to PUSH a 10 Mile minimum DMZ into the Nation of Mexico,....the clearly stated objective being to SIEZE, and hold said territory in perpetuity, and for all time, as NEW American property. Sorry about that, .....

C.) Internally coordinated operations to eradicate / terminate with extreme prejudice ALL resident Narco-Terror Gangs, their affiliates, and colaborators should go foward in synch with A.) and B.). As per those missions,.....Capture and Incarceration of those targeted will be of SECONDARY consideration.Any survivors should be in shock from a very swift, violent, and ruthless campaign against them. Known repeaters and general bad actors would be summarily executed in an expeditious and efficient manner,....with local authority responsible.

D.) Once a secure "Line" is established,.....one might anticipate a period of "rest" and "Cooling Off".
WRONG !,........at that point select American forces should push South,....losing no momentum or tactical edge gained in the initial "Secure The Line" ops.

I'm famished,.....gotta' go wrangle some beans.

Nothing I've written above goes outside of the "Rules of engagement" already in place,.....as written by our aggressors,....does it?

The basic bare bones outline proposed above could certainly stand some fleshing out,.....bearing in mind that BREVITY is the heart and soul of good text.

Mexican 'Assassin Teams' May Target U.S. Law Enforcement, DHS Warns

By Joshua Rhett Miller

- FOXNews.com

Law enforcement officers in west Texas are on guard following an alert issued by the Department of Homeland Security warning of retaliatory killings for a recent crackdown on the Barrio Azteca gang.

AP

March 30: Police officers escort Ricardo Valles de la Rosa, right, to a court hearing in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Law enforcement officers in west Texas are on guard following an alert issued by the Department of Homeland Security warning of retaliatory killings for a recent crackdown on the Barrio Azteca gang.

David Cuthbertson, special agent in charge of the FBI's El Paso division, said the paramilitary-style gang has an "open policy" to kill its rivals and may turn its sights toward local law enforcement officers.

"[They] are extremely cold-blooded and aggressive," Cuthbertson told FoxNews.com. "The killings are done really without thought and any kind of remorse."

Citing uncorroborated information, Homeland Security issued an Officer Safety Alert on March 22, advising lawmen in the El Paso sector to vary their routes to and from work and to wear body armor while on duty. The alert also suggested that officers' relatives pay closer attention to unusual activity in the area.

"The Barrio Azteca gang may issue a 'green light' authorizing the attempted murder of [law enforcement officers] in the El Paso area," the alert read. "Due to the threat, it is recommended that [law enforcement officers] take extra safety precautions."

The Barrio Azteca gang, which formed in Texas prisons in the 1980s, is a brother organization to the Aztecas gang in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the epicenter of Mexico's violent drug war, Cuthbertson said.

He said members of the gang's "assassination teams" are thought to work for very small monthly fees. One official from the Drug Enforcement Administration has said Aztecas have been known to kill for as little as $100. Since 2006, drug violence across Mexico has claimed nearly 18,000 lives.

Eduardo "Tablas" Ravelo, the reputed boss of Barrio Azteca members living in Juarez, remains on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, and the FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to his arrest. He and other Barrio Azteca gang members serve as hitmen for the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes drug trafficking organization -- also known as the Juarez cartel -- and are responsible for several killings, according to the FBI.

The DHS warning came just days after hundreds of Barrio Azteca gang members were interviewed by officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and FBI following the murders of three people linked to the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez on March 13. More than 200 officers from at least 18 agencies participated in "Operation Knockdown," which resulted in at least 26 felony arrests of alleged Azteca members.

The Barrio Aztecas are believed to be aligned with the Juarez cartel against the Sinaloa drug cartel for control of the billion-dollar drug-trafficking routes through the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez corridor. Since 2008, the Aztecas have been rivals of the Artistic Assassins, or "Double A's," who serve as contract killers for the Sinaloa cartel, Cuthbertson said.

"They're very organized," he said. "They have a code they go by and certainly a communication network inside and outside of the prison system."

Cuthbertson said Barrio Azteca gang members have been found in central Texas towns like Odessa and Midland, as well as in southern Mexico.

Ricardo Valles de la Rosa, an Azteca sergeant, said last week in a purported confession that his gang was hunting for the vehicle of a Texas jail guard who was killed in one of two SUVs attacked in the March 13 shootings that killed El Paso jail officer Arthur Redelfs, his wife Lesley Enriquez, who worked as an employee of the U.S. consulate in Ciudad Juarez, and Jorge Alberto Salcido, the husband of another consulate worker.

Valles de la Rosa, according to his statement, was instructed by Azteca brass to target Redelfs due to alleged harsh treatment of Azteca members in jail. Valles de la Rosa was ordered last week to be held for trial on weapons charges for allegedly carrying a 9mm pistol when he was arrested.

Ron Martin, president of the El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association, said that while he takes any threat to the law enforcement community seriously, he won't change his habits.

"It's not the first time a gang has put a hit out on El Paso police officers," Martin said. "Our guys are very highly trained, so they're pretty well prepared for just about anything. For them to come out and attack a law enforcement officer in the United States would be detrimental to their business."

Martin called the March 13 killings "unacceptable" and said he felt the killings were no less shocking because they occurred in Mexico, just across the border, rather than in El Paso or elsewhere in Texas.

"It doesn't matter if it actually happens across an imaginary dotted line, you're killing people for money," he said. "It's unacceptable."

Asked if he had changed his daily routines since the DHS alert, Martin said: "It's not like we're doing anything different because a bunch of murderers -- I call 'em terrorists -- are threatening us. Personally, I don't do anything differently than I did before. We're not changing the way we do our job because of them."

Guatemala, warehouse for the narco

Guatemala has become one of the main points for the Mexican drug cartels delivery and storage of drugs that come principally from Colombia. From Guatemala, at least three routes of transport are used to deliver the narcotics to the US. Officials of the Mexican Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) report that the major cartels use transports identified as Central, Gulf and Pacific. The central route is controlled by the Sinaloa cartel; the Gulf, by the Gulf cartel and their former allies, Los Zetas; and the Pacific route is used by the Juarez, Sinaloa, Tijuana, Beltran Leyva brothers and La Familia Michoacna. The Pacific route is used for the transport of chemicals needed in the production of synthetic drugs. These chemical products come mainly from Asia and Europe and enter Mexico through the seaports of Manzanillo, Colima and Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacn, ports used by both La Familia Michoacna and the Sinaloa cartel. Competition by the various rival transporters using the same areas keeps the violence rate high.

Even Holy Week could not hold back the wave of violence affecting a large part of Mexico. Between Wednesday, March 31 and yesterday, 126 executions in 12 states were reported. Main contributors were the states of Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Mexico and Morelos with a total of 110 cases reported. Add to that the armed attack on the prison in Reynosa to free prisoners and the Molotov cocktail attack by organized crime on the Catholic Temple near Cd. Juarez.

Venezuela Russia arms deal

The purchase of Russian arms by Venezuela could add up to some 5 billion dollars under a new agreement, according to official Russian sources. The government of Hugo Chavez has already spent more than 4 billion dollars in arms purchases from Russia, including helicopters and 100,000 Kalishnikov rifles [the "K" in AK-47 ]. Quoting the closing statement of the article Venezuelan arms agreements are one of the various issues that have irritated the US in its relations with Russia.

A second article regarding the arms agreement addresses a request by the US for Venezuela to make their purchases of arms transparent in order to prevent the migration of the arms to other parts of the region.

Stupid [bleep]' reply.

Too damn bad the Government won't declare a 1 mile wide "Free fire zone" along the border. With the troops & gunships to enforce it.

Hell, strap me in a door (I prefer the left) on a Huey or Blackhawk with a free 60, a Blooper and unlimited ammo. Bet I am back up to speed in short order! Never mind the references to VC water boo's and the like, just minor flashbacks.

Careful what you wish for, T.

This is a very common point of view, and highly prffered solution around here, ....at this time.

As noted a day or two back,....the "Mile" will be pushed SOUTH of the existing line.

This is actually starting to look "Do-able"

Hey OP's, I am talking about government sanctioned action in my post. Just to clear that part up, I AM NOT talking about illegal civilian action. Just that I would volunteer to do what they trained me to do all those years ago.

What is an, "illegal civilian action"?

Is it protecting YOUR FAMILY AND LAND?....or is it atttacking illegal invaders?

You [bleep] are so tough on other threads when the war isn't on YOUR front lawn...but so pansy azzed, puzzy hurt, weak [bleep] when it comes to the homefront...and your front yard.
I know that, T.

I'm just a little put off that with the Washington / British Colombia border in the shape it's in this sorta' chit slingin' happens at all, about what's requested as common sense, here.

Kirkpatrick: Arizona border needs more resources

* State News

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) Democratic U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick walked away from her tour of the Arizona border on Monday with the conclusion that its getting more violent there and that the government needs more resources to secure the border.

Kirkpatrick watched operations of ports of entry in Nogales and got a briefing from the Border Patrols Tucson sector chief. She says she will advocate for more resources for the Border Patrol.

The tour was Kirkpatricks first inspection of border operations since becoming a congressman.

Kirkpatrick is serving her first term representing a sprawling district that includes most of northern and eastern Arizona. The southernmost point of her district is in the Greenlee County town of Duncan.

Glenn....
said it before, say it again: I am not espousing violence.
Those illegals obviously had some kind of weapon to take down the calf. What happens they start shooting? Run?

Just sayin'....
We will surrender this country to hispanics in years to come. I am 38 years old and I bet I have a spanish speaking president in my lifetime. There aint a damn thing we can do about it. The libs want them here and there are many small, medium and large business that want them here. Done deal, game over! They are a more aggressive group that is breeding like crazy.
here we have the rio grande river as a southern border, thats were the bridges & check points are.fifty miles north of the river is another set of check points, on the hiways going north.i live in the middle, between the check points. we call it no mans land or northen mexico, mostly large ranchs, 10,000 acres is a small ranch here.the illegal traffic, once they get acrossed the river, start walking trying to go around the hiway check points, once they are past the northern check points with theyer people or drugs they are home free.when the border patrol puts a lot of pressure in one area they move east or west till the border patrol starts putting pressure there.its a game of cat and mouse, execpt when the cat catchs the mouse he kills and eats it. when the illegals get caught. they get sent back for another try.i talked to one guy who finally made on his 20th try.many are smarter and make it after a couple of trys. some make on theyer first try.these people come from all over the world china, sri lanka, el salvador, cuba, brazil, central & south amercia, iran , packistan, they know the southern border is wide open, they all have contacts some where in the u.s. they know where they are going.if you think mexicains are the problem, think again they are just part of the problem.some way we need to stop this. other countrys can control theyer borders why cant we?
I'll say it again; I'd guess those stating they are ready to open fire mostly live far away, ain't too much of that coming from folks who actually live there.

But, supposing the wet dreams of the airchair commandos came true, and folks started shooting.

How many American lives would they be willing to trade for the priviledge? I mean we have already demonstrated these would-be shooters have no apparent interest in going after those millions of Americans all over the US who create the problem. What about those Americans who AIN'T employing illegals or buying drugs?

How could anyone who actually LIVES along the Border go out on their land? How many of the maybe hundreds of thousands of Americans still working or traveling in Mexico would die? Are we never to cross the Border again?

Logic however, aint gonna prevail with the wet dream crowd crazy

Close the Border, but do it lawfully.

Birdwatcher
im with you birdwatcher, these guys that talk about starting a shooting war, havent had anyone shooting back, shooting people is not the answer, closeing the border tight is the answer.
My mother grew up in Douglas, AZ and I remember going there as a kid to visit my grandparents 35 yrs ago. It was overrun back then. The Mexicans were allowed in to get medical treatment, vaccinations etc. They didn't have to pay sales tax in the grocery stores either. I remember a guy pushing a cart heaped with chicken and milk.
My Aunt lived outside of McNeal, about 15 miles from the border. They ended up moving because there were too many packages dropped from small aircraft and picked up by 4x4 trucks. They kept their shades drawn and went in the house when this activity was going on.

I have never understood why the US doesn't install a hi voltage fence. It won't stop the problem but it would toast a few.

JD338
Jeez, what a NICE string of well thought out posts !

Birdy, thanks for that concise eval,.....pretty much bang on, as far as I can squint.

R107 I hope you'll continue to post here,...Good of you to point out the "OTM" (other than Mexican) component of these trangressors / invaders, and Secure it LEGALLY dittos.

JD338 I'm sad to have top advise you that McNeal has become a Ghost town,....no more gas pumps, only one little General Store hangin' on. I was on my way home from a speaking gig just North of there (Elfrida) last year on Davis Road, headed W. outta' McNeal. I'd heard that it was no longer anyplace to be after dark, so was running into a nice Sunset. As you probably know, that road runs through some PRETTY range land, and I was just mosying and enjoying the views. Bigger than hell, a car and two pickups had the road blocked, and a CROWD of swarthy Males were milling around a truck with it's hood up (A VERY NEW TRUCK).
One guy was waving a shirt,...in "Flag down" mode......

I stopped about 150 yards East, and scoped it out,....I Won't say what I did next,.....but whatever was wrong with truck seemed to cure itself, and they mounted up and departed rapidly.
On recharging the repair devices, I than proceeded cautiously home,....and did not report the incident.

The traffic on Davis road,...unlit convoys of stolen American vehicles and trailers loaded with same, after dark,...literally have to be seen to be believed. Car-Jackings are as common as dirt.

We need to get our borderlands handled,.....but I'm preaching to te choir, mostly.

GTC
I crossed davis road a couple of times last year after dark, and there was towards the tomstone side if it a statue on the south side of the road, all lit up with candles. Not a typical shrine where some mexican augered in. Strange thing, still don't know what it was. The guy in the truck with me knew the rancher that owned the land south of the road. Some interesting stories.
Ron,.....I call that the

"Shrine to Our Lady of the not so Immaculate Bowell Movement"

The entire slope behind that thing is COVERED with foeces and azzwipe.

GTC
Ive lived in McNeal (area) for over 40 years, and I can promise you, it ain't no ghost town. Hell; the general store and gas station has the cheapest gas within 20 miles either way, very busy little community. Elfrida is the [bleep]; that twon catches and hold dreggs like a seive, a town full of meth heads and wore out cowboy crooks, I hate Elfrida.
The shrine Ron speaks of, at the west end of DAvis rd,. Ive tried in vain for years to get that sonofabitch removed. Ive mailed every county offical and agency I can think of, from the health dept, check 50 yards behind the shrine you'll find feces, toilet paper, kotex, tampons etc, they did nothing. County supervisors et al, no one wants to touch it, I suppose because of the storng hispanic vote block?
I did have one supervisor advise me I could tear it down if I so chose, becasue it has no legal authority to have been erected there. By the way, the original one plus two more have been constructed,a gawd awful mess!
I even tried the arguement of "seperation of church and state" because they have the inmates from the prison complex at Douglas clean up the area every couple weeks...it all falls on deaf ears?
Be not deceived. Not all of us who see it coming want it to come.

I was REALLY sorry to see that the Old Machine Tools company had gone under,....JM, and GLAD to hear that I was mistaken about the town. Tend to agree with you 'bout Elfrida, lotsa' folks with eyes close together,as well as the dregs. Is there a "Sattelite" CCSO there?

That "Shrine" is a PUBLIC HEALTH DISGRACE !
( A little bit of "Old Mexico" right here in our backyard, how quaint)

A LARGE fire should be built over the damn thing and a 200" radius burned off,...HOT, before it's leveled.
Was over in Tombstone yesterday,.....after some time at the S.V. Range on 90......
You can smell the thing driving by on 82 !

Burned bodies identified in Nayarit

TEPIC, NAYARIT-Eight burned bodies and four more riddled with bullets were found in a rural region near the capitol of Nayarit. The remains are of a narcotics trafficking chief and part of his band of gangsters. Last night the State Police found the massacred remains. One of the cadavers was identified by the wife as those of Jose Luis Estrada Martinez, AKA El Pepino. She declined to identify the occupation of the deceased.

Nevertheless, it is public knowledge that El Pepino, 38 years old, ran a narcotics organization affiliated with the national cartels.

According to an official press release, the wife of Estrada Martinez was able to identify the burned body without emotion and without doubt. The families of the victims identified five others.

The murderers of EL Pepino are presumed to be members of a rival narcotics gang that began the violence at the beginning of this year.

The Sinaloa Cartel is behind the threats in this valley

CD JUAREZ, CHIHUAHUA-Details in the possession of Mexican authorities prove that the threats against the people of Juarez Valley are made by the Sinaloa Cartel which operates in this area according to an individual detained in 2008 but who was released after a trial. According to information released by the Secretary of National Defense, (Sedena) the operations of the Sinaloa Cartel are commanded by an individual identified as Gabino Salas Valenciano AKA El Ingeniero.

According to newspaper reports, El Ingeniero was detained by the Mexican Army in February of 2008 in possession of firearms and drugs and the following October was released by the Federal Court. According to these same sources, since November of 2009, in various places around the valley, threats were made against several people by the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to reporters, Salas Valenciano was identified as a leader in the Carrillo Cartel in February of 2008. One year before, and before he was released from jail, a bulletin from Sedena identified him as a leader of a cell of hit men in the service of the Sinaloa Cartel whose job was to execute members of the Juarez Cartel or members of La Linea.

In newspaper archives, the name of Salas-Valenciano appears in a saga of violent acts around the valley, like the burning of properties. He was retaliating for the death of his brother, Valente Salas Valenciano, whose body was found with four others in May of 2008. A note was found with the bodies that read: This is what happens to the (expletive) traitors who work with Chapo Guzman, it guarantees that we will shoot you down like a dog. (Signed) Sincerely, La Linea.

-end of report-
Sometime in the early seventies one of our service techs had to install an Oxygen tank in Auga Preita (if that's spelled close)
He bootleged a crane and crew in by paying off the local cops.
Before the job was finished the Federal police caught them and were arrogant enough to tell them to break down the crane and turn themselves in. The whole bunch bailed for the border.
I had to take a truck load of Liquid Oxygen there, finish the job and fill the tank.
If the customers guys had not known who to pay off I would never gotton out of there. The crane was never recovered, I think my company had to buy it and eat the loss.
I always hated having to work in Mexico,, and they couldn't pay me enough to do it now.
I knew the language ( and ALL about "La Mordida",.....)

would have to say that I mostly had fun working all around Old Mexico, for a lotta years.

There were more than a few 'Anus Clenching Adventures" but,....mostly FUN.

Dangerous illegal aliens escape from Texas prison

Link: http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-35821-Immigration-Reform-Examiner~y2010m4d9-Dangerous-illegal-aliens-escape-from-Texas-prison

On Tuesday, illegal alien inmates Jose Bustos-Diaz and Octavio Ramos Lopez came up missing from the Briscoe Unit, in Frio County about 75 miles southwest of San Antonio. The pair escaped after cutting a hole in a perimeter fence.

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Bustos-Diaz was serving a 35 year sentence for murder in Harris County, while Lopez, was serving 20 years for two counts of aggravated kidnapping and 12 years for drug trafficking.

The two Mexican nationals remain at large and are undoubtedly headed for the border.

So,......Powell's down there now ?

Mexico Extradites

Mexico, D.F.-The Government of Mexico extradited a record 307 criminals to foreign countries in the last three years. They were wanted in foreign jurisdictions for engaging in crimes involving the narcotics trade, sex offenses and homicides. This announcement came from the Secretary of Foreign Relations of the Federal Attorney Generals Office. Under the Extradition Treaty with the United States, 291 criminals were extradited to the Unites States to stand trial in U.S. Courts. There were 16 individuals extradited to El Salvador and South American countries.

This is only part of the strategy of the Government of Mexico and other countries to combat organized crime and means that there is no immunity granted to criminals. Some thirty-three of those extradited were cases alleging sexual crimes against minors, eighteen were for murder, six were for money laundering, four for violent robbery and three for kidnapping.

Intelligence on narcotics trafficking lacking

Nuevo Leon-The battle against narcotics trafficking requires a good intelligence program, not more powerful firearms, said Ex-U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

The first priority, in whatever type of military or anti-drug campaign, is to have intelligence so we know who we are looking for, said Powell in a press conference at the University of Monterrey. We need to understand who they are, how they operate, how they move money, how they are recruiting young people and it is not merely a matter of having a war in the streets, and it is not a matter of having more powerful weapons than they have, said Powell. The United States has not performed well in the battle against narcotics trafficking. The United States has the greatest number of addicts and is the major consumer of illicit drugs in the world, according to Powell.

Powell discounted reports that Mexico is a failed state and said that Mexico faces a major challenge. Powell applauded President Calderons strategy to confront narcotics trafficking but concluded that the United States has the greatest demand (for drugs) and is the major source of arms (used by the cartels).

The Federal Secretary of Public Security announced that this is a result of a new agreement that will still maintain Mexican Military presence in this border city.

The support for Arpaio's tactics is clearly evident,.....the nay-sayers are really going out of their mind,....I wish he'd go ahead and declare his candidacy for the Gubenatorial run.

I'd say this falls well into "Aftermath" category.

PHOENIX - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will launch his next crime and immigration sweep within the next three weeks in Phoenix.

Arpaio wouldn't say exactly which day he would begin the sweep or where it would be.

However, he says he'll focus on high-crime areas and target immigrant smugglers and the drop houses where they hide their customers.

Douglas, Ariz.

A great sadness will descend over this border town today as mourners fill the local high school gym to pay their respects to Rob Krentz. Two weeks ago, the 58-year-old rancher was shot and killed by what appears to be a drug smuggler. His death has created a tidal wave of emotionKrentz was a pillar of this community where his family has ranched land here for a century. "The sobbing and crying from people I never thought I'd see cry, it's unbelievable," local veterinarian Gary Thrasher told me.
And so, .....Adios, Rob

Community mourns slain rancher

DOUGLAS, AZ - Memorial services for Robert Krentz, 58, drew a standing room only crowd to the Douglas High School gymnasium Saturday morning.

Krentz was shot to death on his ranch March 27.

At the request of the family, News 4 did not enter the memorial.

Outside, crowds of those he touched came to pay their respects.

"There's still a big sense of loss in this community," says friend Gerardo Gonzales. "Rob was a community leader. He was a dedicated conservationist. He cared a lot about this landscape and did a lot of work."

Friend Bill Blake says the tragedy is still fresh, "He was a good guy just trying to make a living and got killed in his own country."

As Blake prepares to honor the man who meant so much to so many, sorrow turns to frustration, "We don't even dare go out anymore. We got a bullet proof vest. How many people who have to make a living wear a bullet proof vest?"

He says the legacy of Robert Krentz must live on, so in time residents can make sense of this senseless death.

"Three months from now you won't see a politician or anybody down here and we'll still be in the same mess. I don't know. It just shakes us all up. I don't know what's going to happen to the whole thing. I hope the government will help us."

Investigators say there is still no suspect or motive.

There are two rewards totaling $40,000 being offered for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
Given the amount of INK that this subject is getting,...I'd venture that I'm not the only one around "Obsessed"

" "The Mexican outlaws have total control, and it's going to get worse," said rancher Ed Ashurst, a neighbor of Krentz's. "There are going to be more dead people until they put the Army on the line."

A day after laying rancher Robert Krentz to rest at funeral services in Douglas, his family and others are still waiting for troops to be deployed to the border.

The Krentz family called for the active-duty military to be deployed, and many of their neighbors have demanded that troops not only come but be given authority to track lawbreakers, arrest them and - if threatened - shoot.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer wants to deploy 250 additional National Guard soldiers but doesn't want to use state funds to pay for them. The federal government hasn't answered a formal request from her and other border governors.

But even if troops are sent, it's unclear whether they would perform the active, law-enforcing role supporters envision. The National Guard can be assigned to law-enforcement duties, as it was during President Obama's inauguration and after Hurricane Katrina, but the Guard has been assigned only support duties in past border missions.

"The Obama administration would likely be quite cautious in whatever role they assign to troops placed at the border, and for good reason - to try to minimize the possible unwanted impacts of such a large demonstration of force," said David Shirk, a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington D.C. and director of the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego.

The 140 Arizona National Guard troops now assigned to support the Border Patrol in Arizona help with surveillance, analysis and drug-education efforts.

In the Operation Jump Start border mission that ran from 2006 to 2008 across the U.S.-Mexico border, the National Guard helped the Border Patrol by building roads and fences, operating radios and sitting in observatory posts near the border to report activity. Guardsmen were not allowed to apprehend or engage.

That's not what Portal-area resident Tom Hays and others want.

"If you send the National Guard, you've got to let them do their job," said Hays. "If not, it's like having nobody at all."

Posse Comitatus Act

Despite what many think, the federal Posse Comitatus Act does not prohibit the National Guard from taking an active law-enforcement role on American soil, said Rick Breitenfeldt of the National Guard Bureau.

"We can do pretty much anything that we are asked by the Department of Defense or the president of the United States," Breitenfeldt said.

At Obama's inauguration, 10,000 National Guard troops were deputized by Washington, D.C., police so they could take law-enforcement action if necessary.

During Operation Jump Start, the National Guard was given Title 32 status, which allows a more active role. But since it was asked only to support the Border Patrol and report illegal entries, it stayed within that role, Breitenfeldt said.

When a group of armed men approached a post east of Sasabe on Jan. 3, 2007, four Tennessee guardsmen vacated the post and moved back. The retreat set off a firestorm of criticism and led to a hearing of a state House committee where a National Guard major had to defend the guardsmen's actions.

SUPPORT ROLE OK

The risks of an active military presence on the border became clear in 1997, when U.S. Marines working on an anti-drug task force shot an 18-year-old U.S. citizen near the border town of Redford, Texas. Esequiel Hernandez Jr. was herding goats when he fired his antique .22 caliber rifle and the camouflaged Marines, feeling threatened, killed him.

This time around, Border Patrol agents would welcome the National Guard in a support role, but asking guardsmen to track and apprehend illegal border crossers could be problematic, said Brandon Judd, executive vice president of the Arizona chapter of the Border Patrol agents union, Local 2544.

Border Patrol agents receive extensive training to ensure they don't violate the rights of people they encounter, he said.

"Without the proper training, you open yourself up to liability," Judd said.

Calls for the military, which date to the Mexican Revolution, have become politically motivated, knee-jerk overreactions to incidents, said Wayne Cornelius, director emeritus of the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at University of California-San Diego. It would be best to leave border work to the Border Patrol, he said.

"They are the trained professionals in immigration law enforcement, including tracking and apprehending people-smugglers," Cornelius wrote in an e-mail. "We should leave it to the professionals."

Since Krentz's March 27 killing, Homeland Security officials have moved more Border Patrol agents into the area.

FOR AND AGAINST

For many residents shaken by the killing of the well-known and highly regarded Krentz, the deployment of troops is necessary.

"The Mexican outlaws have total control, and it's going to get worse," said rancher Ed Ashurst, a neighbor of Krentz's. "There are going to be more dead people until they put the Army on the line."

Others, though, don't want troops back, at least in the form they've been there before.

"Everybody wants them to put troops on the line," said rancher Wendy Glenn, a neighbor and friend of Krentz's. "There would be more people putting out tracks, and vehicles tearing up open space wherever they go."

Instead, Glenn said, she wishes Border Patrol agents would be better equipped with radios that can communicate with one another across sector lines and with more mobile radar stations. Others want more cell-phone towers to speed up emergency response times.

Another Krentz neighbor, Bill McDonald, said the National Guard would help in the short run but the problems associated with smuggling require a more sustainable response.

"Once you pull them out, what happens?" said McDonald, a fifth-generation rancher. "There has to be a way better strategy than slapping the guard in there when things get tough."

UP TO WASHINGTON

A federal decision to send the National Guard would have to come from the White House or the Department of Defense. The White House says it's committed to securing the nation's borders but wouldn't say if it plans to send troops.

Border state governors have been requesting the National Guard since spring 2009, but the Obama administration has been reluctant to pull the trigger because of concerns about militarization and the strain troops are already under with oversees conflicts, said Shirk of the Trans-Border Institute.

Cost is an issue, too. The federal government spent $1.2 billion to send 6,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border under Operation Jump Start.

Brewer said the state would be able to sustain the Guard only for a short period, which is why she wants the federal government to step up and pay. Securing the border is a federal responsibility, she said.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson sent an additional 35 guardsmen to the border in reaction to the Krentz killing, but it's unclear how long they'll be there.

One thing is clear: the killing of Krentz and subsequent calls for troops have amped up the pressure on the Obama administration, Shirk said.

"It's an election year, and they certainly don't want to be seen as soft on national security," Shirk said. "They are more likely to send troops this year than last year because there is a greater sense of urgency."

Searching for a killer

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is investigating the March 27 shooting death of rancher Robert Krentz. It's getting some help:

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona is going back through its active cases from the area where the killing occurred and interviewing suspects in hopes of unearthing useful information, said Dennis Burke, U.S. attorney in Arizona.

Burke met with his counterpart in Mexico this week to set the groundwork for extradition if authorities find the shooter across the border.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has dedicated several agents full time to assist Cochise County, and has additional agents on standby if needed.

Homeland Security has put up a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and federal prosecution of the shooter.

The Arizona Cattlemen's Association is offering a $15,000 reward.

Our view: Let's beef up border to prevent more violence

Sun-News report
Posted: 04/10/2010 01:00:00 AM MDT

There's still much to be learned about the murder of Arizona rancher Robert Krentz just west of the New Mexico state line, but all indications suggest that the violence that has been raging in Mexico has crossed the border and claimed the life of a good, decent man.

Just as ranchers and homeowners in the Bootheel region have warned for months would happen.

In response, U.S. Sens. Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall and U.S. Rep. Harry Teague, all D-NM, have sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary

Janet Napolitano asking that a forward operating base of the Border Patrol be stationed in the Bootheel.

Gov. Bill Richardson, who in 2005 declared a State of Emergency along the border, has sent National Guard troops to assist with border security. As part of the earlier emergency declaration, a state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management field office was opened in Las Cruces.

It is, of course, a federal responsibility to secure the national borders. But, governors of border states can not sit by idly while their people are being gunned down. We commend Richardson for his attention to this problem, and urge him to devote all available resources to the safety of those living along the routes where ever-more-dangerous drug traffickers are bringing their shipments into this country.

The federal government has taken steps in recent years to beef up border security, but for too long had been too slow in recognizing the problem. Even when spurred to

action, the federal bureaucracy always seemed to be two steps behind.

We recognize that the men and women of the Border Patrol are putting their own lives on the line working every day to make the borders more secure. Our criticism is not with them, but with those who have left them outnumbered and without the resources necessary to protect border residents.

Robert Krentz was remembered as a man who would rather give water to illegal crossers than see them risk dying of dehydration in the desert. He deserved protection. His neighbors deserve protection. We can't stop the bloodshed happening south of the border, but we must do everything possible to keep it from happening here.
