As a gift to my daughter, I took her to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last night. For those that aren't familiar with it, it's the largest rodeo in the world and a pretty big deal. Every night there is a concert after the rodeo...last night was Lady Antebellum, one of my daughter's favorites.

After three hours of wandering around the exhibitors booths, livestock, pig races, birthing pens, eating chocolate dipped bacon and fryed Snickers we were ready to sit down.

When they opened the gates to Reliant Stadium we headed to the "nosebleed" section, on the 6th floor, which were the only tickets I could get for the sold out event.

As soon as we sat down, we were approached by a group of people, including a cameraman. They explained that every night 10 people are selected for a "Randon Act of Kindness", sponsered by various corporations, in this case, Caterpillar Inc. They escorted use to floor level, right behind the chutes, where we were given VIP seating and access.

Thanks Caterpillar!

How COOL is that? smile

I'd still be at Reliant Stadium (and asking for more paper).

Oh sure, cops get all the perks, the average citizen would have never received such treatment. Where is the equality....

I think that may have some kind of relationship to this being a "Make-a-wish" type thing. Eatin'-crazy might be a terminal deal. grin wink

Cool deal Pat, glad you were chosen!
Pretty cool thing they did. Pay if forward.

"Pay it forward."

Think he already has!
frown

Just asked the other half if she ever heard of chocolate dipped bacon.

Reply," Never heard of it. " 'Pause', 'You know, it sounds like easy to do. I'll try it this evening.' "

I can guess who the first guinea pig will be.

If it kills me, I'll let you guys know.

Way cool Pat couldn't happen to nicer folks IMHO and bless Cat!

Cooler than cool, Pat. Doesn't get better than one's daughter thinking her daddy is cooler than Lady Antebellum.
Posted By: ltppowell Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/06/13
Thanks all. It was really nice.
Posted By: Sponxx Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/06/13
That's awesome... one point about the Random Acts of Kindness is that biochemically and neurologically in our brains doing such an act or kind thing provides the same signals as rolling in cash.
So, basically you stimulate the same receptor and activate the same areas in the brain if you won the lottery that if you pay the toll for the car behind you smile.. so it's easy to feel like you've won a million dollars...

Come on, pull the other one!

You aren't suckering me into thinking that chocolate dipped bacon or fried Snickers are real foods -- not even a donut-munching cop would eat things like that! wink grin

Seriously Pat, thanks for sharing the story with us.

Chocolate dipped bacon...maybe.

Fried Snickers...all day long. I've never had one but I'd be the first to volunteer at a party.

cool "Good things happen to good people" "Bad things don't happen often enough to bad people." smile GW

Hopefully you will both remember the kindness for a looong time and the fact that you enjoyed each other's company. Good on CAT though.

That's more than I ever received from Caterpillar and I worked for them from 1969 'til they layed me off in 2008 just before the magic one got
elected!
.
Not bitchin'; just making a statement. Almost everyone over the age of 60 was layed off that day! NONE younger!
Was your little gal impressed by the bulls or did you get to be close to them?
My grandson and I were chosen for the VIP treatment a few years ago here at the rodeo but when they found out that he wouldn't be covered by the insurance on account of being too young, we didn't get to go where we would have otherwise. Didn't bother him much but I felt bad for him. But they took us a little farther than they should have so he could get a close up of the bulls and talk to some of the riders.

Quite a treat for kids. And grown ups.

Good on ya.
Posted By: ltppowell Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/07/13
Man, we go to these little rodeos pretty regular, but it makes all the difference with world class animals. It's pretty obvious we're doing a better job of breeding animals than people when 13 out of 16 World Champion riders can't make 8 seconds.
Posted By: slopshot1 Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/07/13

I didn't get any chocolate dipped bacon either !

Darn it. I did get a, "That was a joke, wasn't it?"
Posted By: Mac84 Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/07/13
Cool Pat. Sounds like a good time.
Posted By: remfak Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/07/13
It all sounded great until you got to the Lady Antebellum part..... wink
Posted By: NathanL Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/07/13
Sounds like a great time,I bet the people who were sitting by you in the cheap seats were ticked lol.

I got the same treatment at a hockey game once. Went from cheap seats to 2 seats right behind the glass in a little section on a platform. They had lazy boys to sit in and a girl to bring the drinks/food. I went with my dad and we had a great time. They called it the "best seats in the house promo". I think it was sponsored by lazy-boy recliners.

Posted By: Gus Re: A Random Act of Kindness - 03/07/13
sounds like ya'll had a ton of fun. and chocolate dipped bacon. oh my.

as an aside, remember when the Texas Prison System held the rodeo at the men's prison in Huntsville? attended that one time and had a blast. those starched white unifroms looked really good on those bulls. i reckon that operation has ceased now, though.
