These have been the toughest couple days of my life. I got the tragic news on Thursday night that my girlfriend of four years Megan. Was killed in a car accident. She was sitting at a stoplight when i semi rear ended her without ever touching the breaks. She was my best friend- hunting partner. Megan had just turned 21 a little over a month ago. Don't see how things could get any worse then things are right now.

This was a very bad accident, involving eight vehicles. Three other people were hurt. Poor Megan was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Prayers sent for all involved.

I don't even know what to say other than you have my deepest condolences. I just attended a funeral this morning for a,co-worker who was involved in a very similar wreck on Monday afternoon. She was also rear ended by a semi going about 50mph. I wasn't real close with her but it was tough. I can't imagine what you are going through and I am so very sorry. and then I read a young woman like this is taken so early in life by a trucker, who evidently was high, on speed or was just plain tired and no paying attention...

She thought that pistol was the coolest damn thing. We got to shoot it last weekend. She put about 50 rounds through it. It was with her in the crash. First shot was dead center ringer. She made it look easier then it was.

Can't imagine that kind of loss at your age. The photos you'd posted showed so much life and promise that it seems a double devastation. Praying for you this morning, and into the future.

i lost a dear friend a couple years ago at age 30. i know it's not the same but i do remember the suffocating feeling and the wanting to call her and she wasn't there anymore. wanting to share something with her and remembering i couldn't.

it really does get better with time. the only thing that helped me was to realign my ideas about the whole thing and learn to stop thinking about how unfair it was and start to look at it as, i didn't have to meet her to begin with but i did and i'm damn glad to share the time i got to.

i know that doesn't mean a damn thing right now but maybe in 6 months you can look back on this and it will.

I lost a dear friend several years back and couldn't stop questioning why someone with such a promising future would have their life snuffed out so soon. No matter how I tried to rest my mind, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Time and talking about it really does help. Or it did me. It was when a bud of mine and I were talking one day that he made a comment that finally brought peace. He knew I had been struggling for a while and he told me, "In the day/age we're living in, God is surrounding himself with good people." Maybe it will help you.

I see out my window that it is a beautiful Sunday morning, to remind us of God's love, in spite of the terrible things that happen on this earth.

Because you let your Campfire friends know of your troubles, concern for you and your families has rippled out in an ever widening circle. This morning hundreds, probably thousands, of people that you have never met in person, are saying prayers for you. Don't doubt the power of prayer.

When I was your age I didn't know what to believe. I am sure your whole belief system is shaken right now as it never has been before.

Please have trust and faith that if He brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

This is from Megan's obituary in the Minot paper:

Megan really kept her parents busy all through school as she was involved in just about everything possible. She was one of the first girls in wrestling and was known as a scrapper in all of the sports she played. She put her heart into everything she did. Meg was one tough cookie! She strived to be unique, never following the crowd, and was well known for her fashion statements. Meg was also an excellent student and her family was very proud of all of her accomplishments. Always an animal lover, for a time she was a vegetarian until she met the love of her life, Colton Hellegaard, and became a mighty huntress! Megan's last four years were spent almost entirely with Colton. Together they hunted, fished, took care of their dogs, and spent much of their time on his family's farm. She was so looking forward to finishing school, getting married and moving to the Hellegaard farm with Colton. Her heart will always be there.

Megan graduated from Plentywood High School in 2010. She had just turned 21 in March and in early May had completed her third year at Minot State University, majoring in laboratory science. She worked as a phlebotomist at Trinity Hospital in Minot. She was a very reliable and valued employee there and was proud of her job. She was planning on staying in Minot to work this summer, but was just on her way out of town to come home for a long weekend.



She is survived by: her parents, Mark and Heather Shoal, and her brother, Jon. Megan is also survived by her soulmate, Colton Hellegaard, and his parents, Deanna and Clyde, and all of the Hellegaards and Solbergs who became her second family. Megan leaves behind many friends including her "besties," Kirsten Tryan and Shelby Vogel.

Megan's light touched so many people's lives. She was a gift. Though we dearly wish we could have had her longer, we thank God for the time we had with her. She made our lives "sparkle."

Pastor Mark Taylor will officiate at memorial services today, Tuesday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at Plentywood Lutheran Church.

Private interment of cremated remains is planned for a later date.

Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge of arrangements.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life
When I was suffering from anguish, sorrow, or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, "You promised me, Lord,
That if I followed you, you would walk with me always.
But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
There have only been one set of prints in the sand.
Why, When I have needed you most, you have not been there for me?"
The Lord replied,
"The times when you have seen only one set of footprints
Is when I carried you."



My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy go out to you and everyone who was touched by Megan's life. I pray that you find peace and strength in the story posted above. It has touched me in times of need and my hope is that it does the same for you.

Just reading this thread, prayers for you and her family and friends. My deepest condolences. Keep strong in your faith, and trust in God's plan, one us mortals often never understand.
