Sitka, I worked out what that character was the first time I conversed with it...and I cannot begin to express the antipathy I feel toward him.

My total time in "Stick's" presence would be measured in minutes at most... a chance meeting in the Anchorage airport in 2010 when my son and I were flying to Juneau to bring a small boat from Juneau to Whittier and Stick was headed to Deadhorse for a hitch.

At 6'4" there was no question who was taller, but no one would look at Stick and call him "short" let alone midget. He has worked that line to his advantage, repeatedly...

He was friendly and very gracious. He also pulled Riley into every aspect of the discussion so there was no question about his focus.

Based on those few minutes I give him a 10...

Stick can be abrasive as chit anyone can see that of course anyone with 2 eyes can see how gracious he is. Not the first time I've seen him offer to loan expensive chit to try out to posters here

His kids run first rate fishing and hunting gear and as he has repeatedly said he will only give them gear that he himself would run. Yep selfish [bleep] once again.

Countless guys on here have copied Larry's rifle blueprints on builds and/or changed part of their build after he pointed out what he believes are better options. Not always gentle in his ways but never seen him not offer either.

Several posts by Larry of peice mealing his personal guns for parts putting them unusable just to throw on other peoples to get them going while they waited on parts.

I once asked him about bear hunting in his area and the answer I got was something along the lines of "buy a [bleep] ticket and tell me when you will be here. Bring your own gun or use one of mine". Who else opens their homes and makes offers like that to people they don't know.


The fact that he was pleasant to Sitka Deer and included Riley is no surprise as he clearly takes every chance he can to include kids in everything he does and is very giving.

Nope Larry is no saint and sure the hell can rile feathers but he knows his chit, doesn't suffer fools and answers questions posed to him in a reasonable manner very quickly.

I am getting a big chuckle out of this whole thread. Analyzing folks is part and parcel of my business and I am no expert but I have dealt with all types.

When I came on here and started reading Boxer's threads,I concluded quickly that this guy puts an uncommon amount of deep thought into everything that he does.We may not agree on all things gunny (he operates way over my head);but if you aren't paying attention to what he says, you are either arrogant...or stupid...or both.

I contrasted the literary left-hook knockout jabs(which, if I wasn't a lawyer and accustomed to such stuff would leave me squirming) intermingled with the solid advise (and obvious knowledge),with the pictures of the kids,equipped to the "9"'s and the center focus of much of the day's activities,and came to one unalterable conclusion....

In real life, this guy is a pussycat!

I somehow sensed(knew) that you could show up, butt naked in Alaska,need a hand with something,and he would bend back over to render assistance,even if he did not know who you are. If you were a hunter/ shooter/fisherman that's all he would need to know.

I have been lucky to meet a fair number of folks from the CF in person...spoken on the phone and by email to many more. They were all gentlemen and a pleasure to be around. Haven't met a jerk yet.

Despite the petty bickering that goes on here, I suspect we all have more in common than we do obvious differences.

I am looking for a sporter rifle in 6.5-284. I do not have any experience building a rifle using a wildcat ( so I picked the 6.5x284) and do not want to wait for a custom build. I have seen a Cooper in it, but it has the short action. I would like one with a longer action. Savage has some good ones with the long action. They are not very much money. I do not want to go with their "long range" series, and their little sporter only has a 20" barrel. Kind of wasting the potential of the 6.5x284 I think.

I am looking for a wood stock, long action, 24" or 26" barrel and stay under $1500.00. Is their such a rifle?

Just looking to keep it simple. Standard chambers, throats etc.
