Acworth, GA a reasonable drive!
I am extremely glad they finally came to my area.
Mike
Cabelas is fabulous. There has never been a gunshop or outdoor store anything like it.
I like the rare guns in their Gun Library and my wife likes the food there for lunch.
Cabelas is awesome! Wife hates it though, I buy to much "stuff".
Enjoy. I prefer Cabelas over Bass pro shops
I been a Cabelas man for 25 years. But I hope they never build a store in Florida. I order online so I enjoy not paying sales tax. Once they have a retail store in your state then even online purchases are subject to sales tax. At least that is my understanding.
Nothing like a Cabelas moving into your state, so you can pay the [bleep] sales tax on internet orders.
Nothing like a Cabelas moving into your state, so you can pay the [bleep] sales tax on internet orders.
You're a sour head simpleton,
Tax? how about picking up powders, primers, etc without paying Hazmat?
There's also alot to be said about looking at items in person before puchase,
picked up 2 cases of 12g trap loads last week, You ever heard of shipping charges?
Take your medication.
That's right, I forgot whenever they put in a new Cableas, everyone in the state magically lives within 20 miles of it.
Lets see, the last state I lived in that had a Cabela's was over 100 mile drive one way. That covers hazmat dickcheese.
Of course they are putting in a Cabela's 7 hours from me, that should save on some hazmat.
I bet there ain't a day that your mom doesn't wish she fished you out of her womb with a coat hanger.
You assumed this thread is all about you? Typical.
You bringing up Mom, 3rd grade playground stuff at best,
Most social misfits with your depth of dysfunction can usually get help with medication, apparently your prognosis is off the charts.
Sorry to hear that.
Sales tax to abortion, Seek better Doctors. There may be hope.
Y'all need to grow up and quit the juvenile snide remarks. And no I don't think they're just "cutting up" as some around here do. They're just plain crass and uncalled for. So if you can't say anything nice why don't you try saying nothing at all. In simpler tetms, if you can't post anything positive that adds to the thread then STFU.
Exactly Steelhead. I live in South Florida so if they build one in the Panhandle i doubt I will save much in driving 8 -10 hrs one way and then back. If
I order something online that doesn't fit or suit me Cabelas pays the shipping back. And i can reorder what I need.
I live 10 miles from a bass pro shop and every-time I go down there for something they dont have it. They will order it and you can go back and pick it up but thats two trips over there. So having a retail store close doesn't mean your going to be able to put your hands on it before you purchase it.
When I order online I press two buttons and the package shows up at my door. I save shipping by watching for free shipping times or $5 shipping promotions.
Had one in Michigan for quite a while. As Scott pointed out the first one on the other side of the state merely added the privilege of paying sales tax on internet orders. I am not a shopper so made no special trips, but did stop through when in the area and their taxidermy is fantastic. Boot shopping MUST be done in person, so I visited Aunty and slid through for a new pair of Danners.
Then one came to our city. It's ok, but again I am not a shopper. My boys love the taxidermy & I like being able to pick up internet orders there and try things on.
Definitely way better than BPS.
Glad you're excited!
I remember when Cabelas was very cost-competitive. Then they had their IPO and all that changed.
I'm glad they finally got one here.
Several years ago they were supposed to build one that would have been 14 miles from the house and almost equal distance between Chattanooga and Atlanta. Being retired I would have considered a part time job at that one.
There was some political jockeying and supposedly people with BPS connections and political connections kept it out. The deal fell through and the one they built is 35 miles from home, closer to Atlanta, but still away from the worst of Atlanta traffic. Not too bad of a drive, and it beats the closest BPS which is at least 1.5 hours away and requires a trip to Atlanta. BPS has plans to build just south of Chattanooga, but I like Cabelas a lot better anyway.
It is one of the smaller Cabelas. They didn't include the trophy rooms like in Kansas City or Dallas that I've seen, but I don't think it is lacking in anything I'd need.
They have just started one here in Huntsville but will be a year before it is completed. Sure a lot better than the Gander Mountain and Dickheads we have here now!
I am about to be in a similar place. I have one in Bowling Green, KY opening about a mile from the house. I cannot go to town, work, gas station without passing it. Kinda a good news-bad news situation.
Same here. Never had one close enough to visit until they opened in Augusta; a 30 minute shot down the slab and I'm there. Always good to have another source and was surprised at how much they actually had in the way of components. I'll suffer the tax in exchange.
Best Regards
They already opened one over in Augusta so I was already hosed by the tax thing!
Mike
The ORIGINAL one in downtown Sidney, NE was he best. Went down hill after that especially when it went corporately owned.
Hope they never build one in WY.
Nothing like a Cabelas moving into your state, so you can pay the [bleep] sales tax on internet orders.
If that extra 8% puts you in the poor house you've got no business buying it in the first place.
Bah humbug! Wifey & I thought we'd take a drive out there last Saturday after I forgot about the Wednesday pre-view member invite I'd gotten the week before. Was too busy at work I guess. Got there about lunchtime or so and couldn't get close to the store. Westbound traffic access was blocked off and the line of cars from the West stretched back over I-75. Given my anti-social tendencies, I drove on by and took the scenic route home. I'll probably go back once some of the hysteria has abated.
Cabelas in our state gets some good stuff in the fine gun room, but from what I hear, their buyer is good at getting nice collections.
Nothing like a Cabelas moving into your state, so you can pay the [bleep] sales tax on internet orders.
Yep. Just got nicked $25 sales tax on an order I placed 10 min ago. Nearest Cabela's is 120 mi. away. Pisses me off but I do like their hunting clothing....
5.1% percent tax, it's killing me.
Just another Chinese clothing store with a few odds and ends for outdoors.
The one in Augusta caused Georgians to be taxed before they got the building built..
Just another Chinese clothing store with a few odds and ends for outdoors.
You just described almost every single store in America.

Exactly!
You guys do know that you're supposed to be paying the sales taxe even if there isn't a Cabelas in your state.

You are without a doubt one of the most uninformed morons I've encountered this weekend. An 8 lb. jug of IMR-4350 from Powder Valley costs $153.70 plus a flat rate of $13.95 for shipping plus $28.50 for HAZMAT. Go ahead and count on your toes if necessary. That winds up being $196.15 and it's delivered to your door.
Cabela's charges $199.99 plus tax for the same item. (Sales tax in the proposed municipality where Cabela's is to be located here is 8.375%.) Plus gas to drive there, plus stimulating conversation with smart guys like you.
F*ck that. Cabela's was a hell of a lot better when they were a mail order outfit with the one retail store in the old phone company building in downtown Sidney.
Yea, the boys and I went there a few days after they opened, I don't do combat shopping, and it was nice. Had a wild boar sandwich. 12 minutes from the house. They carry Mendels so they're better than BP. Looking forward to many guys day out there instead of BP...

Kenneth, bringgeth the heat!
I helped pour the foundation for a new Cabelas that I will drive past every time I pick up my daughter from her mom...I've also heard a rumor that there will be a special "Contractor Day" before the place opens next spring with 60 percent one day contractor discount store wide(don't know if the guy was blowing smoke about that or not, guess I'll find out next spring)....
Unfortunately for you, you're the uninformed moron here.
show me where I said I have bought Powder from Cabelas,
I'll be patiently waiting....

Your ignorant ass cited the ability to pick up powder and primers without paying a HAZMAT fee as one of the "upsides" to a Cabela's store. And as is the typical modus operandi for the -- in Big Stick's parlance -- "window lickers," you're trying to weasel out through a fairly transparent and moronic semantics tactic. Your ass was had. Get over it.
While we're waiting for for Mr.Manners,
Anyone care to explain Cabelas codes to Brickie, usually around 20% discount,
Smarter people than I will put lots of Purchases on Cabelas credit cards, and earn all that free money which could be put towards Primers, Powders, etc...
Seems a moron as dumb as I could easily beat Powder Valley's price of 196.15,
Who knew?
I didn't help there bottom line any as I bought exactly nothing!
I did spend a bit of time admiring the mounts and eyeballing lots of stuff.
I'm in need of very little and was more a curiosity then anything else.
It's not significantly different the Bass Pro Shop but a whole lot closer.
I did have my Campfire pards in mind though looked for .35 Rem brass or ammo as well as .375 Win.
Mike
The name calling is childish, Hard to take you serious anymore.
There is "upsides" to buying in person, if it doesn't work for you, I really don't care. It works most of the time for me.
Again, There's different ways than just your way.
It's funny, you trying to tell me how I should live my life, Like you have the first clue of even the smallest info.
Later.
Stopped By Sat. On The Way Back From The Gun show.Far To Many People For Me.I May never Go Back. Not Crowd Type Guy.I Really Didn't See Any Buy's.Have More Powder At The House,Than They Had. Most Stuff Was Over Priced. Didn't Seem To Stop The Mob..Heard The Cashier Say They Where Over 7,000 People Through The Door..

More backpedaling bullshit. I figured as much.
I have been to the circus and the county fair a few times in my life so could care less to have an outing with Ma and the kids to go join the other "hunters and shooters" (a.k.a. window licker's) in the mob scene at Cabela's which is only 50 miles or so from my point of origin. Midsouth shooters supply and Midway or if I find it at Franklin's or even Bass Pro I will buy powder locally. Sales Tax, property tax, state tax, county tax, city tax, car tax, gasoline tax, garbage tax, toilet paper tax....

Just admit you made a wrong
ASSumption, Still patiently waiting for the quote where I said I have purchased Powder at Cabelas, I said people could buy powder at Cabelas in person,
It's called Reading Comprehension.
And If I wanted/had to buy Powder at the big C, I would and not worry about the 8 dollar diff your wonderful math example showed,if I paid full price, which I don't.
Unfortunately your math is wrong also,I've never, ever, paid as much as 196 for a jug,
Feel free to call Midwest shooters supply for a quote, even with tax your 196 is still about 30 bucks to high.
And I don't want to hear the bullshit about driving 90000 miles to pick goods up. I drive right by these places multiple times a year.
I listed all Positives with having a Cabelas in my state,I have yet to see a negative,"that applys towards me".
You can twist words to however you need to fit your agenda, call all the names you want, But you still haven't proven anything.
In Richmond we had Bass Pro, which we still have and a Cabela's that has since folded their tent. Of course being next door to Bass Pro may of had something to do with that.
Never cared much for either one, smelled like yuppie, not gun shop.
Every year at Christmas time wife andI would go with Step Daughter to shop for son-in-law. Never found anything that I could not buy cheaper some where else.
Jim

Shhhhhhhh, quiet...
FWIW, a new Cabelas recently opened up about 30 miles west of me.. Been in there exactly twice - both times they didn't have what I wanted and after perusing the other wares I realized the prices were more in line with Rodeo Drive offerings..
Bye.. I don't need no Cabelas..
YMMV.
We just had the Grand Opening of NYS's first Cabela's store a few weeks ago. It is one of their new "scaled down" stores. IIRC it is 88,000sqft. Certainly not one of their bigger stores but seems to be stocked pretty good, so far.
The "contractor night" was also done with local clubs and others invited. It was a zoo..............staff were understandably not as familiar with the stock they'd like, parking was FULL and all 14 registers running with a one hour checkout time! Plan on spending a couple hours if you can.
Like others have mentioned, the loss of the sales tax exemption is a bummer but so much of the same items from Cabela's can be found at other online vendors that it isn't a big deal.
Such is the price of progress............

100 % agree
I much prefer Cabelas !!!

All the planned new stores, 16 in the next year are going to be about that size.
Stores like Ft Worth and Hamburg are the last of the large trade mark stores.
Cabella's has had to bump the opening of the Bristol, Va store now several times. Now the sign just reads "opening in 2015". Maybe some day it will open.
I sometimes see something interesting in the used long-guns rack at Cabela's. That's about the only reason I ever go into one.
They are building one in Huntsville as well

Got one opening in a couple weeks about 20 miles south of me in Tualatin. Still far enough that I have to make a trip, so shouldn't be to hard on the wallet.

Keep digging, dickhead.
nice stores but like bass pro they are mostly over priced.
I pay sales tax and shipping now they are here in Maine. Store is 6 hours away.
At the risking of whining....my impression of the last 3 trips to Scarborough
About 10 customers in the entire store. Sales staff standing around with their hands in their pockets.
Most confusing store layout. Rapalas all down one isle except for the one I wanted which was located at the other end of the fishing department.
Five different sizes of flatfish lined up with the trolling stuff. The size I wanted located near the stickbaits (alone).
3/8, 3/4, 1 1/8. and 2 oz jig heads all together. 1 oz jig heads (bare hook anyway) over by the monofiliment
Understocked. I'm talking bare shelves.
Sales staff less than helpful. A wave of the hand and saying that they "may be over there somewhere" isn't very useful. How hard is to to know where 1 oz. jig heads are of which as it happens they were out of. The sale associate in that department stood there with a blank look on his face (sort of like he was in day 4 of 5 of a tourist hatch) amid a sea of empty shelves. When asked, he waved his arm and "over there" encompassed everything from snoopy rods to flying gaffs and tuna lures. Heck for all I know there may have even been some firearms there.Maybe I'm not the only one confused by the layout.
Over priced
One stop at a small local shop on the way home and I had everything I needed for less. Sad to say it will be the last time I stop in.
yup, and their quality and customer service is iffy at best. I have one I drive by a few times a month, haven't stopped in a long time. it's handy if I need something in a pinch and don't have time to wait on shipping, but that is rare. IMO it's a small step up from a BPS or dick's, but not much. besides, how much crap does a person need to kill critters? the majority of that stuff is for city hunters who watch too much "hunting tv" and think they need every gadget out there. Cabela's is a great place to get your cough muffler, butt out tool, barrel harmonic dampener and handy dandy swiss army hand warmer/knife sharpener/bone collector deer call. the kids like to see the fish in the aquarium, that's about all we go for.
I'd rather have a scheels nearby than a cabelas. and fortunately I do.
