Last Friday was my last day at work with TXDOT as a design specialist. 24 years and 11 months with them.
I'm actually semi retired will be working with a friend of mine selling old trucks and a few cars out of my property.
I don't think its sunk in yet what I've done, I still have this weird feeling I need to get to work on some highway plans we're behind on.
I have plenty to do around my place so I'm sure that feeling will pass.
congrats..hoping to realize same in less than 10....
Know what you mean. My first year not teaching. Very concerned what my replacement is teaching "my students".
Congratulations! Enjoy your retirement.
I retired as a teacher just over 5 years ago. Never been busier and don't know how I ever had time to work.

It will!!! I retired from TxDOT in 2008!
Congrats!!! Time to have fun!!
Congrats, quite the accomplishment. I retired from a job I started at a young age after 26 years. Now I do a part time job, and frequently tell them, "no, I don't really want to work full time."
My experience has been that once you leave the job you grew up learning, that other jobs don't inspire the same passion or sense of being as my previous job.
Good Luck in whatever your future holds for you.
Yes, you ARE behind on the plans
Now just leave it to your followers to catch up what you've been goofing off on!

Know the feeling. I do the same... and tell them the same... about 1/2 a dozen times a week.
Congrats!
I thought I retired 10 years ago but when I put on my reading glasses it said "retreaded"
so busy I haven't been fishing in 2 years.
Oh I forgot, I stole a sunday and went Brookie fishing in the meadow while checking the high country graze.
I retired a little over four years ago. I remember the shock of it well. Congratulations, it is way underrated.
Congratulations. I retired this past June and have been busy as hell. Loving it and I am certain you will as well.
Retirement, the best job I ever had.
I hope retirement is everything that you wanted it to be!
Congratulations, enjoy yourself.
Congratulations! Enjoy yourself. I've got a ways to go, but I know I will be ready when the time comes.
Congratulations, I have been retired for almost twenty years now, still go into the S.O. every morning for a couple three hours doing data entry to relieve the deputies of the task. Spend an hour or two doing St. Vincent dePaul stuff for my council (I take care of the electronic and small appliance donations), now wife takes up a bunch of my time helping her out since she broke a wing.
Life don't stop, you just don't get days off anymore!
I hope you've enjoyed your life, you needn't wait till retirement for that to occur.

that is very good of you. I am sure, the deputies really appreatiate you doing it.
Wishing your wife a speedy and full recovery.
I have retirement all figured out - just 30 more years to go.
LOL
I was a performer in a military band for 20 years. Only took ten to get through a night without feeling like I had the wrong uniform, or couldn't find the gig....
Thanks for all the words of encouragement.
I didn't think I would feel this way because I was damn sure ready to go. I know it will pass.
I have a wonderful wife and have put my 2 kids through college and have a grandchild.
yesterday I started working on the green patch for the deer behind my house. I have my gun collection, reloading and my '68 chevy c10 and '02 SS Camaro to more than keep me busy and having fun.
God Bless All!
1911a1, Relax, take it easy, then get to work on that long list of stuff you have wanted to do for years.
I retired in '06, and never regretted a day of it.
I'm close to 20 years out, but Washington has turned out prey damn good. Lots to do.
Just have to see how bad I5 politics can fugg it up.
Congrats!
And welcome to old geezerhood!
If I'd have known how much I was going to enjoy this, I would have done it sooner.
I just blinked, and have been retired for almost three years now! (GRIN!)

but you haven't really retired, you still are acquiring things that more properly belong in arizona.
Congratulations. I've been retired for almost three years now and that first year was hard. Used to getting to work by 7 A.M. and getting home after dark. Now, I can't wait to get up and do things I love. No day is boring and there is always more to do than time to do it. I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as most of us here do.
My last day will be 12/18, will be moving to Montana. I'm going to buy a small convenience store and sell a little gas, a few groceries, and some beer and booze. Have been working in the mining industry since 1972.

Retirement isn't as good as everybody says... ITS BETTER! Congrats - it will take a while to sink in but enjoy everyday.
