To you Southern Gentlemen I have a question on proper dress. I have three new pair of Texas Jeans. While ironing a shirt this morning was struck with a thought. I know I can wear Wranglers without ironing them but is it a sin to wear Texas brand jeans without pressing them first? grin

No man irons jeans. Occasionally they have attentive wives who insist on doing it, and the man humors her.

You don't wash them...
Why would they get nasty?
They wear like dress pants. Hung up when not being worn and hung outside one a month or so.

1. Levi’s CEO Says Don’t Wash Your Jeans
As gross as it may sound, the CEO of Levi Strauss – aka the jean expert of experts – says you shouldn't wash your favorite pair of denim. “We try to educate the consumer…If you talk to real denim aficionados, they’ll tell you don’t wash your blue jeans, just take a sponge or toothbrush,” said Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh at Fortune’s Brainstorm Green conference. “I know it sounds totally disgusting. I know it does, but believe me, it can be done.”

Jeans have been around a long time. Longer than this trend of washing everything worn once.
I don't chit my pants or drop food on my lap and I shower so why would a pair of slacks get nasty.
These are not work pants. Those are my dungarees that remain in the mud room with my boots, hung on a hook.

He's right about disgusting. Can you imagine 4 month old cow s!it? But I suppose if you're never around anything more disgusting than a corner office cubicle that might work.

Thank goodness. I don't have to iron Texas Jeans.

Sam and the Levi crowd. I loved my 501s until the day I checked their web page. They wanted me to sign a petition to own all firearm ownership in America to save the children. Then the wanted me to support a music group that was 90% cop killer noise without a note of music.

I have never permitted a Levi anything in my home since.

Look at TEXAS JEANS and you will find a wide selection of jeans made in the USA form US made materials and at $20.00 a pair the price is way better the Levi foreign made crap that supports thing I do not.

Fresh ironed shirt tucked in to boot cut Texas Jeans, 1911 IWB carried on my hip, two spare mags hidden away on my left side, Filson belt holding everything in the right place, gig line straight, Tony Llama boots, Filson vest, and a hat to keep the rain of my freshly shaved head. I am ready to take a lady to town. smile

I don't reckon I've ever uttered the word "jeans" in my life.

I used to wear Levis, 'til the management turned queer, then I switched to Wranglers.

Both of them are referred to as "britches".

And I keep a couple pair of new britches in the closet for town wear... medium starched and ironed from the laundry/dry cleaners in the County Seat.

Who sells "Texas Jeans"? Never heard of 'em.

Don't recall ever wearing ironed traditional jeans myself, regardless the brand.

I have worn ironed denim pants cut like dress slacks.

The few males I've known who made it a practice to always wear ironed jeans couldn't seem to pass by a mirror or for that matter any reflective surface without checking themselves out.

Heat and chemicals are what's used to break down denim. Why would someone intentionally reduce the life of thier jeans?

There are still some places where if you showed up with your britches legs rolled up, you'd get throwed in the water trough. That would help 'em shrink up.

in the early days, when I was a teen, a lot of us thought we weren't properly attired unless our jeans had sharp creases in them. it was part of the countryboy look.

but we outgrowed that fad quick enough.

stonewashed jeans for a premium, now there's a product to buy stock in. like distressed wood for furntiture, it should cost more, because it cost more to produce.

khaki for this Southern Gentlemen, with Danners, please.

Back in the Old West as in the 19th century old west, no self respecting cowboy would be caught dead with creases in his jeans - it was the mark of a dude. Apparently their Levis came creased from the factory so the first thing they did was wash or soak them to get that crease out. Up through the 40's and 50's it was normal to cuff the jeans, both for cowboys, greasers and motorcycle gang members. I think cuffed jeans legs only went out with bell bottoms in the 60's.

I guess like hat styles, jean couture is a regional thing.

I guess I never really considered that you COULD iron jeans. Can't see why you wouldn't though, if you wanted them to look kinda dressed up.
I found pants at Costco, kinda like cargo pants, you can get them in insulated versions too. About $20 a pair(so probably half that in your country) and they really comfortable. I haven't worn jeans since.

For the education of all you Yankees there are parts of the South where pressed jeans are considered show a show of being a gentleman. Parts of Texas and Lausiana. The post was in jest. My time in the Navy as a LPO stuck with me and I do like a dream ironed shirt. Ironed pants no longer count.

Finley someone knows what I am talking about.
Yes, it does seem silly to some of us, maybe most of us but what fashion isn't silly in some ways. The three piece Wall Street look is a lot sillier in my book. I have not pressed pants of any kind since I took off the Navy uniform.
Posted By: websterparish47 Re: Southern Question - 08/30/15
Pressing the jeans was an attempt to raise them out of the lower class. My first duty station in the AF forbade the wearing of jeans on base.

why would they get nasty? cause your skin constantly puts off oils and sloughs dead skin not to mention everything else in the environment.....granted i dont wash my work pants after a single day of wearing unless something gets on them like black mud, i usually wear one pair a week washed on the weekends. but saying heat chemicals are what deteriorates denim is a no chit statement, so does the UV from you hanging them outside every month, its the same for any fabric. if you can get away with not washing denim for over a year without it getting nasty you must never sweat or not wear them all the time.

only thing unique about denim is the weave and dying process that doesnt dye the whole thread just the outside, there is nothing inherent in it to keep it cleaner than any other cotton garment. it still picks up dirt and skin oils like a cotton t-shirt and doubt your claiming not to wash your shirts regularly, the difference is it doesnt show as bad with dark denim but it is still there...only thing not washing does is slow the fading which i find odd cause part of the "neat thing' about jeans is how they fade due to the dying process.......

I wasn't dissing Texas Jeans. I've just never heard of them before. Levis are one of the most counterfeited products in the world, so it's not unusual to get bad ones. The copies are shipped into the country from places like Pakistan and Mexico, then networks of runners "return" them to retail stores in exchange for a different size of the real thing. The originals are then exported to foreign markets, where they get big bucks for them.
Posted By: StoneCutter Re: Southern Question - 08/31/15
I never thought I'd see the day when we're discussing fashion.

My wife usually does my laundry and folds them and puts them in a stack in the closet. If I do my laundry, they end up in a pile on the floor until I get around to putting them away. If they're too wrinkled, I throw'em in the dryer for 10 minutes. I'm not allowed to touch her cloths.

I keep some newer ones for goin out in, and the worn out ones for work. My schitt's dirty 5 minutes after I get here.
