Super Bowl is nothing but a commercial enterprise born in the days that athletes were actually looked up to and boys wanted to emulate. I have never been much of a spectator, but on rare occasions when my leg is on ice and there are no rabbits, I find myself watching this spectacle.

I also grew up singing patriotic songs in school and reciting the pledge of allegiance. The Super Bowl starts with the "Star Spangled Banner" which represents everything great about America and that Puke of a Cam Newton can't even pay attention to the song and hold his hand over his pathetic heart. I hope he gets his ass kicked...

Somehow I've gotten by without T.V. for the last 23 years.....good points shrapnel...pro sports are pretty much hollywood to me.
Back in the day( mid 70's) , as a kid I used to be able to sit with vikings players on the bench at some practices, hang out with them at meals and looked up to some of those guys, now days there's not much to "lookup" to when it comes to current athletes.

Of course Cam is a flamboyant clown, everybody knows that.

I was thinking earlier that if I had a son and we were watching the game(anthem neck grab) that I would tell him that is not how it's done.

Of course my imaginary son would already know how to show respect.

All kinds of people have no class when it comes to the National Anthem, I did however think that Lady Gaga did a fine job.

Might as well roll out the amish buggy....

It might come as a surprise, but showboating is best regulated by violent enforcement, not some overpaid, overprotected queer begging the ref to laundry a victory.

I miss the NFL.

Must have been a chit sport too when you were in it.

Sure glad I decided as a teenager that sports was better participated in than watched. Especially as everyone in pro got way overpaid, arrogant and so on...

I'd rather go shoot a rifle match any day than watch sports on TV. Just like hunting shows... time better spent hunting fishing or about anything than watching.

Its pretty much became a schit sport when certain positions couldnt get hit like everyone else.

Those positions now have the largest amount of schit talkers and showboaters.

Do hope that for all of you that are enthusiasts, it's been an enjoyable game.

Right on there........someone else mentioned Dick "Night Train" Lane earlier, I can just imagine Cammie boy breaking into a Night Train led secondary..........he woulda immediately been clotheslined & no penalty would have been called either. Little Cammie would be so anxious to run the ball anymore after that.

Today that would be a season long suspension.

Cam acted like a total POS no doubt, left his team hanging by not diving on the ball.

Regardless of how you feel about Cam, that schit by Talib has no place in professional sports. If you condone that crap you're just as bad as him. Grabbing someone by the face mask and attempting to throw them 10 yards is a dick move at best. Talib is just as big a POS as Cam is on the field. Don't know about off the field but I can say that Cam does do a lot for the greater Charlotte community with kids. He has a lot of maturing to do, hopefully sooner rather than later.

The difference in today and back in the 70s is that the guys are much bigger, faster and stronger. The league has realized they will be paying through the nose for future lawsuits if they didn't step up and give some protection to players. When you have 280 lb monsters that run 4.5 40s, it's a dangerous game despite the best equipment available.

No sour grapes, Hats off to Denvers Defense. Manning was totally ineffective and that despite the HGH.
Posted By: Ringman Re: Cam Newton POS - 02/07/16
To start with I will plead ignorance of who these players are. I watch football to see good plays. When Cam threw five interceptions in a row I suggested to the other guy watching the game at my daughter's house, "It's time to put in the second string quarterback." He said, "I don't think so. Cam is the MVP of the NFL this year." I didn't say anymore. I don't care who is whom. If they aren't cutting it put someone else in. They can't do any worse and may turn the game around. If he was white, from what I saw, he would not have received the award.

Cam reminded me of my brother-in-law when he didn't go for the fumble. He could throw the ball eighty yards going into college. But the first time the ball was hiked to him and he saw those big guys coming at him he fell on the ball.

Sorry, but it is the biggest production of the year. How do 150,000,000 people know about if it isn't advertised and built up the entire year, not just during the football season.

You may be too young to remember when the Rose Bowl was played in California with no commercial attachment to it. What is it or any bowl game referred to now? The Super Bowl is more commercialized than Christmas anymore, further emphasizing that continued economic connection behind the Super Bowl and all other sports as well.

Failure to recognize it for what it is, is similar to thinking you still can't find 22 ammunition anywhere...

Cam is a self absorbed POS QB who needs to mature, learn how to throw a ball with touch and be a leader. He possesses none of those traits. He consistently overthrew, underthrew , overpowered ball after ball. You are mistaking me for a Carolina fan first of all, I just live here and thought I would root for the team since they don't visit the SB very often.

Pretty much sums it up but would like my say.

Auburn's "Scam" Newton. A douchebag so unabashedly self-absorbed and classless, but with obvious athletic potential, the organization (evidently, IMO) trying to rehab his image by having him give TD balls to kids in the front row. But tune into ANY interview of the guy to get the real deal. Or during the singing of the SSB, if you prefer.

Was in disbelief (ok, guess not really these days) at his recent interview essentially putting himself on a victim-pedestal, on how "people aren't ready for a black quarterback as good as me." Really??? Because none of us have ever rooted for a QB that had a different skin color, or is it that there's never - according to scam newton - been a black QB who measures up to his delusions? Either way, while he may have physical and athletic talent so too is he a f'n azzhat of the first order and I took delight in watching his smug face replaced by a dazed and confused far-off stare while a viciously effective defense handed him his azz repeatedly. And I don't even particularly like the damn Bronco's beyond cheering for the underdog this year.

Oh, no worries, Scam, I'm sure it'll be someone else's fault by morning.

My how things change....

His athletic talent is off the charts; but question his maturity and toughness.

Jesus, Bart Starr, Roger, Terry, Joe and even Brett got hit more in one quarter than these guys today do in several games.
The Phil Simms commentary cracked me up.

There are some real Barney Badasses out there physically, but many don't hold up when getting hit.

"But later, when Butkus answers questions in front of the Touchdown Club, he says he does not like Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, and imitates Newton pointing after he picks up a first down.
His audience laughs nervously. Butkus is an icon. Newton is their quarterback, a quarterback undefeated six games into this season.
Butkus says his wife, Helen, walked past the television when Newton was celebrating and asked what he was doing. Butkus told her. She kept walking. Helen isn’t a fan, either.
Butkus comes from a time when, if a good play was celebrated, it was celebrated after a game. He comes from a time when a concussion was a headache. He comes from a time when a team’s best players played on special teams."-The Charlotte Observer 10-30-15

I'm not a Broncos fan but my MIL is - she's 84 and in very poor health. She doesn't see or hear well so I've been watching the Bronco games with her this year to explain what's going on. She's been in the hospital since before Christmas and I thoroughly enjoyed the game today. At one point I told her the Broncos defense was handling things well but needed to knock that smart ass grin off Cam's face. Not two plays later, the camera zoomed in on him and that big grin was long gone. Truly made my day grin

I could not stand Deion, even when He played for the team that I liked, but He was one of the great corners. If you decided to throw a ball in his direction, an interception was likely. He was also very good at punt returns. He was an azzhat, but a gifted athlete that played baseball and football at the same time when at Atlanta. miles

Bring up any off the field incident concerning him and then proceed to tell me of a CB that is 6'2 205 and runs a 4.2 40. He shut down 1/2 the field something most cannot do these days if at all.

On Field he was special both in Football and Baseball but his private life was his private life and he did an outstanding job with his kids and mentoring other kids.

Working on his character is like working on a 747 at a Ford Dealership. First there needs to be character to work on. Cam is so full of himself because he has a physical gift that allows him to play football at an elevated level.

All his fans and sports fans for the most part only care about results and not how to get them. This has long been a problem in professional sports and all the characteristics of athletes take back seat to their individual skill and they are tainted from the unrealistic amount of money that comes with the position.

Paying some athlete millions$ for throwing or catching a ball, then charging the public $5,000.00 to watch is just what is wrong with sports today. Whatever happened to a father taking his son to the ball park on a Saturday and buying a couple hot dogs and enjoy a game without refinancing their home...

Still plenty of opportunities to go to a ballgame on a Saturday or Sunday. Unless you want the 50 yard line, or a private box, during a playoff (or championship) game, you're not going to be anywhere near $5k for a ticket.

Sadly this is common even in our local high-school sports. A few years ago I went to a game and observed several adults and teens walking around doing the National Anthem. However, during the many high-school games I went to in MN to see my nephews play, everyone during every game was standing paying the proper respect.

I guess this is what is truly bothersome, we have gotten so selfish in our daily lives to think everything is about us and respect for significance that once made this country so great, has decayed to the point, many people don't even notice anymore...

So many of them don't deserve to enjoy any of the "greatness" that America is, or offers us all.

They certainly don't deserve or have any thing to do with our Countries greatness, they will go through their own miserable unrewarding lives never even knowing what they missed.

The best part of it is, that most of them are rewarded by dying young.

Exactly. Deion was the best shutdown corner of his era, perhaps ever. He was a truly gifted athlete, in both football (as a shutdown corner and return man) and baseball). He was NOT the best all-around corner, though, because he couldn't/didn't tackle and wasn't physically intimidating to receivers or in the running game. There's no insult there, as he's one of the best to every play the game at the CB position; just not "the" best and certainly not the best all-around.
