Figure we had a razor thread, why not an aftershave thread...

Used Old Spice for years before switching to "Ghost Town Barber" from Chiseledface...how about you guys?

Little Royal Lime for me, when I hope to get lucky.

I get my soap from Stirling Soap.

I use their aftershave that matches the soap.

Sharp Dressed Man - their take on Green Irish Tweed.

Witch Hazel prn.
Posted By: westside_benny Re: After Shave... - 08/29/16
Got this other stuff that I guess is technically called 'cologne' but my wife likes it enough she buys it for me. Caswell-Massey "Newport"...I don't think they sell it a Wal-mart but we don't fret the little things. I'd say it works 100% of the time, 60% of the time. Might put on a drop or two and maybe even take a shower, it's only Monday but it was pretty muggy mowing the lawn.

I'd describe the scent of a subtle blend of musk, citrus and send the fughking kids to their rooms.

Aqua Velva Ice Blue when I did shave.

Been a year and a half since last shave though.

I love the smell of Hoppe's #9, but it is the smell of sleeping alone...or maybe with a dog in a bunkbed, linens of dubious launderage, and snoring lots of snoring.

I love the smell of Hoppes #9. Tonight I'm going with the Caswell Massey. If I don't post again, it is a good thing.

Back when I first started to shave it was what ever dad was using at the time because that was what was there.
More often than not it was Aqua Velva or sometimes Old Spice.

In my misspent single running around mid-late teens and early twenties I tried Jade East, English Leather, British Sterling as well as others I no longer remember the name of.
I finally settled on one called Baron. Pretty potent stuff. A drop or two is the limit for me.
Anymore than that is too much. A bottle lasts me a long time.

I still keep some Baron and Old Spice after shave around although I rarely ever used any even back when I was still shaving regularly. Now that I quit shaving I forget that I even have it.

I always thought those were the stupidest commercials, "For the man who wants to smell like a man"........Really!

None, if I have to wear a damn tie and boxer shorts, that's all they're gonna get out of me, especially this time of year.

Doesn't want me smelling like a flaming homosexual.
Posted By: bigfish9684 Re: After Shave... - 08/29/16
Nivea After Shave Balm. Doesn't really have much of a scent. It smells, but after 30 minutes it is undetectable.

I shave my head and have sensitive skin I guess. Nivea helps settle down any irritation. I shower and wear anti-perspirant deodorant, so don't really need help 'smelling good.'

Mennen Skin Bracer. Cheapest stuff at the store. Kids call it my "old man" aftershave smell!!!

Don't use any of that schitt!

It dries the skin out!

That's why I like the Nivea. Non-alcoholic. Can't say the same about me, but my aftershave will pass on the booze.

Water.

Aqua Vulva. Applied generously, particularly in my 20s and 30s.

I'm an electric razor guy. None of that foo-foo crap for me.
Posted By: gunner500 Re: After Shave... - 08/30/16
Showers are so damn hot my whiskers are softened up enough to run a razor over a wet face at the sinkgrin, there is a can of shave cream on the counter though, just dont use it.
Posted By: hacklewrap01 Re: After Shave... - 08/30/16
After a real shave, with a real razor, witch hazel. On very rare special occasions, a very little bay rum.
Posted By: Mannlicher Re: After Shave... - 08/30/16
have not used 'after shave' in probably 40 years.

Baron was always my choice. However the last bottle I own is a little over 25 years old, and the skunk juice in it has gotten a little ripe. Baron was the compliment to White Shoulders my blonde haired wife used. When I changed women to one with red hair, the White Shoulders perfume smelt bad on her, so I changed to Safari for the few occasions I wear anything.

Mine too, and these days I apply it more often than I actually shave.

My ex tried to get me to wear one or two over the years, but I couldn't stand the stink. Don't care for perfume on girls much either, for that matter, with rare exceptions.
Posted By: RockyRaab Re: After Shave... - 08/30/16
More than half the time, nothing at all after shaving. When I do, I use a lotion or cream instead of an alcohol-based perfume.

To sooth dry skin, nothing works better than Dove for Men Face Lotion. Smooth, creamy and odorless. Next best is Burt's Bees Body Lotion. Just as soothing and with a mild clean scent.

Purely for nostalgia sake, I bought a bottle of Clubman, like they used to use in barbershops a century ago. As one wag said, "It makes you smell a century old!"

Diesel. If I run out in the house I just pull a little out of the truck or tractor.
Posted By: JSTUART Re: After Shave... - 08/30/16

Old Spice, and on rare occasions Blue Stratos, for some reason I tend to scrape the living heck out of my face when shaving no matter how new or what brand the blade, and the aftershave soothes the skin and retards infections.

Most of that stuff that men and women both use, makes me queasy in my stomach. Probably left over from when I got sprayed by a baby skunk when I was a kid. Can't stand even a faint odor of skunk. miles

Dollar Shave Club's shave butter before I shave and their post shave balm after.

Absolutely amazing stuff. Not heavily scented, but it WORKS and doesn't irritate the patches of psoriasis I have on my face.

That must be a thrill with any little razor cuts, eh? You must have really oily skin if that 91% doesn't mummify your face.

Original Old Spice when I can find it, CK1 on occasion.

It'll let me know if I use a blade one too many times. grin

Ordinarily it doesn't bother me much when it goes on, and it seems to keep anything from getting started in the pores I just skimmed.

As a starter, this is good stuff. But I've started using this, and I think that it's better. No cuts, no burns, no nicks. BTW, either Neutrogena or Shave Butter is excellent for after shave application. Rub a small amount on your face and neck, and you'll have no burns. A chick friend of mine will use either Neutrogena or Shave Butter, whichever one she can "borrow" from me, especially on her bikini line and then rub some in after shaving. She said they're the only products that have prevented bikini line bumps. BTW, she got me dialed in to Gillette Fusion. I though it was a gimmick until I tried it.

After shave is for chicks. You don't have to spend a fortune for good stuff if you know where to buy. You can get incredible deals at Haute Look or Nordstrom Rack. While I've never bought after shave at Amazon, I'd bet that it has competitive prices.

Right now I'm using Polo after shave balm because it was on sale at a local Nordstrom Rack. And I like Polo. I've never been able to find Burberry Touch after shave balm other than in a packaged set.

You might want to run that by your dermatologist. That junk will dry our your face. You'll look like a weathered prune if you keep using that chit.

Hello KG.

Soap and water, used daily or so on the "dispenser" will fix that little problem.
Posted By: Everyday Hunter Re: After Shave... - 08/30/16
I shave once, maybe twice a week, depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going. I never, ever use after-shave. I don't see why I need it. It's one of those cases where if a marketer can make people think they need something, they can sell it.

Isopropyl alcohol's dubbed as "my favorite solvent". I keep several bottles around with Zep spray nozzles affixed. This one lives in my truck. Nothing gets diesel fuel off your hands like isopropyl alcohol. I use it as a substitute parts cleaner, on glass, cuts, grease, paint, etc...

Aqua Velva is your scent. But if you want to smell like a MAN, you need to be using Clubman. When I say man, I mean Jack Palance, Jack Lord. and Jack Kennedy. Or Chuck Yeager, Chuck Norris, and Chuck Connors. Even guys not named Jack or Chuck - I'm looking at you, Sean Connery. Am I going to apologize for calling women "broads"? Yes, right after I splash on some Clinique For Men Oil Control Exfoliating Tonic. So never."

There's some other good ones too on Amazon. We'll see...
