Time for a hostile takeover. Not like he doesn't have the money. The asshat is teetering with treason right there.

CNN’s president has fired a warning shot at Donald Trump
By Callum Borchers January 19

Don't mess with CNN.

That's the unvarnished version of a message that the network's president, Jeff Zucker, delivered to President-elect Donald Trump in an interview published on Thursday by New York magazine.

"One of the things I think this administration hasn’t figured out yet is that there’s only one television network that is seen in Beijing, Moscow, Seoul, Tokyo, Pyongyang, Baghdad, Tehran and Damascus — and that’s CNN," Zucker said. "The perception of Donald Trump in capitals around the world is shaped, in many ways, by CNN. Continuing to have an adversarial relationship with that network is a mistake."

Media relations experts — or, really, anyone with an ounce of common sense — would probably agree that Trump doesn't help his coverage by attacking CNN and its journalists. Reporters, anchors and producers are human, after all, and being called "terrible" or "fake news" or "wannabe journalist" can't possibly make anyone more sympathetic.

But journalists are called to try as hard as humanly possible to compartmentalize all that stuff and continue to cover Trump fairly. Revenge is not in the job description.

Zucker's warning that it would be a "mistake" for Trump to keep bashing CNN seems to suggest that the network's coverage might change if the president-elect doesn't knock it off. Consider the reverse: If coverage on CNN could not be affected by Trump's behavior toward it, why would more insulting rhetoric be a mistake? Trump would have nothing to lose.

Thus, it is hard to escape the perception that Zucker issued a kind of threat. He also seemed to engage in a bit of trolling when he said this: "It’s just unfortunate that the most powerful person in the world is trying to delegitimize journalism and an organization that plays such a vital role in our democracy. I think he’s entitled to his opinion, but it’s — to use one of his favorite words — sad."

Zucker, let's remember, knows Trump well. He used to be president of NBCUniversal and is the one who put Trump's reality TV show, "The Apprentice," on the air. He told New York magazine that he still talks to Trump about once a month.

So, Zucker might know what he's doing here. He might know exactly the right blend of strength and poking and logic that will resonate with the incoming president.

Yet he also played into Trump's effort to frame news outlets like CNN as entities that pretend to report information as it really is but actually report information in a certain way because they feel a certain way about him or his party or his supporters. The next time CNN airs a critical story about Trump, he can wave it off and say the network is just butt-hurt.

And it will be harder for CNN to rebut the charge because Zucker did warn that continuing to be "adversarial" would be a mistake.

Trump will double down on Zucker. Rush talked about this today.

So he's threatening to be more biased than they are now?

What Sucker, sorry, Zucker doesn't realize is that the choir isn't going to listen to his preaching any harder, and those who give no credibility to the network's objectiveness - that would be most of the people who voted for Trump in the first place - will only see this as one more piece of evidence that TV news in general and CNN in particular are nothing but liars with an agenda, drunk on the fantasm of their own power.

So he's warning that he and CNN can deliberately alter the world's perception of the President? Well, well, well.

It seems to me that the statement is an outright admission that CNN is neither fair nor balanced - and therefore not journalism at all. That being the case, Trump now has every reason to have no relationship with CNN at all. In other words, remove their press accreditation.

For sure. CNN is playing poker, but with far less than a full deck. I really don't think they've grasped that the liberal slander tactics of the past several decades against the GOP doesn't work with Trump. In fact, it strengthens his resolve.

I'm thinking if they keep on lying and trying to undermine the United States of America they just might loose their press accreditation.

Then they can get their news from other news agencies.

Government and the press have nearly always had a type of love/hate relationship. Trump would be better served by pressure, than brute force.
The press is covered by the 1st Amendment, and Trump will not have an easy time with anything he attempts to force on the press. This has been upheald by the Supreme several times.
http://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-freedom-of-the-press-definition-history-examples.html
......"Definition (of freedom of the press)
Imagine that you are a journalist writing a news story about a political figure who is suspected of corruption. You speak to many of his aides, former colleagues, and business associates, all who wish to remain anonymous. The government finds out about your investigation, and since it is a sensitive topic with serious ramifications for top officials at the White House, they attempt to legally block you from publishing it. But you refuse to comply, invoking the freedom of the press.

Freedom of the press is the right to circulate opinions in print without censorship by the government. Americans enjoy freedom of the press under the First Amendment to the Constitution, which states: 'Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech or of the press.'

History
Back in 1735, there was a case involving John Peter Zenger, a journalist and publisher of the New York Weekly Journal. Zenger was sued for libel after publishing critical stories about public officials, but this famous case was overturned. This case established the right of the press to criticize public officials, and it also indicated that true statements are a valid defense when sued for libel. Thereafter, in 1791, the First Amendment was established. This Amendment is the basis of the freedom of the press.

During the early 1900s and World War I, two legislative acts were passed to regulate free speech. These acts, the Espionage Act and the Sedition Act, were enacted in order to censor pro-German, socialist, or pacifist publications. However, in 1931, the Supreme Court held that virtually all forms of restraint on free speech were unconstitutional.

In the advent of the Cold War in the mid-1900s, news organizations worked to disclose information such as public records relating to wars. These efforts were designed to promote the policy that failing to release information to the public constitutes a threat to the freedom of the press.

Thereafter, in the early 1970s, during Vietnam and the Nixon administration, frequent discussions occurred between news agencies and the government. In 1971, a Supreme Court case entitled New York Times v. United States established the significant rights of the press. In this case, the government sought to suppress classified documents known as the Pentagon Papers. These papers included classified information about the Vietnam War. The New York Times fought against the government's effort to prevent publication, and the Supreme Court upheld the freedom of the press and its First Amendment rights to speech. Thus, the Pentagon Papers were released.

Over time, the freedom of the press has been tested repeatedly in the legal system.

Examples
Examples of freedom of the press abound. One example revolves around the shock jocks who host radio programs. Shock jocks are radio disc jockeys with strong opinions and critiques; typically, they discuss hot or taboo topics. These individuals sometimes provide harsh criticisms of the government or other public figures. However, this speech is protected as freedom of the press under the First Amendment.".....

The First Amendment only applies to Congress. "Congress shall make no law . . ."

President Trump can control the press at his press conferences as he sees fit.

Technically it is probably Sedition.

kellory - censorship is verboten. First-line access to the White House is something else.

And that could be a two-edged sword also. Victimhood-R-Us, etc.

There is always social media of course - who you gonna believe - someone who tweets directly or a biased filter? Which is also a 2-edged sword, if one is as bombastic as Trump.. He needs to think twice and choose his battles, as well as his words.

Not that I don't enjoy the hell out of the whole situation. smile

Posted By: colodog Re: Cnn Prez Warns Trump - 01/23/17
CNN is just testing their limits at the outset so they know if Trump will "play ball" with them.

It's best they both make it plain where they stand early on.

CNN thinks perception is reality and they can shape perception.

I don't think they're as relevant as they used to be, apparently, neither does Trump.

Posted By: Jim in Idaho Re: Cnn Prez Warns Trump - 01/23/17
I can see a possible positive outcome out of all this.

As noted already, the Prez and the press have always had a strained relationship, two entities who pretend to get along but secretly despise each other.

Now they have a knock down, drag out fight, both get bloodied, but when it's all over they've cleared their differences, shake hands and come out on genuinely friendly or at least genuinely respectful terms.

I know the guys in question aren't in the schoolyard but human nature doesn't change much from school kids to CEO's. Sometimes a good fight really clears the air in situations like this.

OR

Sucker gets his ass kicked so badly he doesn't come back and the other kids standing around watching learn a lesson about who not to mess with.

The first outcome is preferable but either is acceptable.

Social media is reporting it.
CNN . MSNBC and all the others need to figure out how they are going to spin it before they report on it.

That there is the problem. They have made themselves a non issue and obsolete now that we have someone in office with integrity. By the time they figure it out just like the Dumbocrats it may be to late for them just like the daily news paper.

You can call it evolution of society if you want.

If they are letting schitthead organizations like CNN shape their opinions and perceptions, then they are probably too stupid to be taken seriously as nations.

No.

None of the rights granted by the US Constitution is absolute. ALL of the rights are subject to a reasonableness standard. Especially the 1st Amendment.

You cannot yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater for the purposes of scaring everyone into a stampede to get to the exits. People get killed in such rushes in a panic to get away from where they think harm will occur.

You cannot, through verbal/written means, incite a crowd to riot.

You cannot in any way verbally or in writing incite sedition or seditious actions.

You cannot verbally or in writing threaten another person.

There are quite a few clamps on the 1st Amendment applied by our legislative bodies and courts.

I'm sure there are more, but my short list will serve to illustrate that the freedom of speech is NOT absolute.

I fence, i understand double edged blades better than most. I bear a scar from one.
I also went to college in broadcasting (to the best of my knowledge , i'm still legal for hire, though long out of practice. it is a lifetime license unless revoked.)

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.

The term was popularised in United States by Mark Twain"

there are things the Press can do that the president cannot effect Directly. Executive orders Affect Government Offices and personnel.
He holds a press conference and they report on cute kittens,They can do that.
Trump holds a meeting In front of cameras that he's pandering to the masses. The same meeting in private And he's got something to hide.Spin control is in their hands.
Trump could screw around with the FCC and have their license pulled, but that would only affect their us Operations.

All I'm saying is, if it comes to a fight both sides can do each other considerable
Harm. it will not be a walk in the park, and will likely involve the courts.
