i pick the crumbs off my shirt and eat them, its so good.
any of you had them.
Posted By: rockinbbar Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/02/17
Now I'll have to give them a try!

I was a fan of the fried beef and bean burritos as travel food...

Stop for gas and get a double dose! wink
Posted By: curdog4570 Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/02/17
They are good from 11 am to 1 pm.... other than that time it's a crapshoot.

Allsup's Beef and Bean burritos are pretty much the same all the time. Whether that's good or bad depends on your taste.
Posted By: rockinbbar Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/02/17
Love the Allsups beef and bean burritos too!

I used to make a run down to Allsups when I lived in NM and grab a half a dozen of those for supper sometimes... smile

AlwaYs stop at Stripes in Falfurrias! Damn tamales there are not too bad either!! Nice and greasy!! Slide right down!! Dozen don't last long. About 18 miles!!!

Btw Stripes there is pronounced "Streep-pe's"!

On a rough road, you can cut that time in half!

Used to love Golden Chick's tenders. Grabbed some in Gillespie one trip to the deer lease. About two hours later the chit started, and didn't stop until about 2am frown Guessing it was a Norovirus

More protein than the crumbs on your shirt! smile

Vyeenees and crackers are not bad traveling food. You gotta pull over to get 'me out of the grub box and spread them out on a paper towel on the console of the pickup, but it takes less time than Allsups or Stripes. And I ain't looking thirty for a bush to get behind thirty minutes after I eat.

And......... a roll of blue shop towels and a bottle of water stay under my seat all the time, Bob. No need for baby wipes, just wash that sucker when the job is done.

But Gene!!! There so Ezee!!! And they smell nice!!! And soothing!!!

Bob, best Tamales in TX are the ones from Pedro's Tamale Factory in Lubbock. Not a restaurant, just a drive through window. And it's just right off the loop as your driving through. You'll thank me after you try em. grin

The chicken tacos are darn good as well.
Posted By: JGRaider Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
Love me some Pedro's.....
Posted By: Gun_Geezer Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
Allsups bean burritos, bugles, and a Mt. Dew. I can only hope that is my last meal on this earth!
Posted By: Birdwatcher Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
The dried out fried chicken breasts under the heat lamp anywhere se habla Espanol are an acquired taste, dried out potato logs vary. Burritos, as noted, don't vary much throughout the day as they didn't have very far to fall anyhow.

No Stripes in San Antonio that I'm aware of, but I gotta give props to Valero's jalapeno sausage breakfast kolaches cool

Worst convenience store experience I ever had was just this side of Fort Stockton around 2am. I swear someone musta peed in the coffee, but it was 2am and my turn to drive and we was headed up 285 to Carlsbad and Artesia, wanting to be in Cloudcroft fer breakfast so I drank it anyways.

Pretty sure urine is sterile.

^^^^^^This^^^^^

Plus all the chicks that work in Falfurrias store gotta ask me about my moustache!!! 😉
Posted By: wabigoon Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
So Woody, do you offer them a free sample? Just a feel I mean. Not with fingers.
Posted By: kaywoodie Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
Well I try. But I think they only do it as they recognize my ancient harmlessness.

So they think!!
Posted By: wabigoon Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
oh, well, as long as you can still try. For me, it would be like the dog chasing a car, what could the dog do if he ever did catch it?

sausage in bread dough is NOT a Kolache. THats a pig in a blanket. FYI. Always chuckle when I see em labeled Kolaches... I've a couple of old czech recipes on Kolaches, they are almost all fruit filled with the exception of cottage cheese and poppy seed and they are NOT closed, they are always open topped...

Can't comment on how mexican food is to be though... none of those in our families and no clue whats right or not.... LOL.
Posted By: kaywoodie Re: texas folks, stripes - 06/03/17
Yeah! Go to Iowa and ask for a kolache the way we say it and watch the look you get!!😂
