I have I go to a wedding.

The bride and her family are flaming liberals.
Bernie Sanders, Liz Warren, Gavin Newsom worshipping slack jawed liberals.

Trying to keep the peace with the wife, she's already warned me to keep my mouth shut. . laugh

Been there?
Sure. Went to a family reunion this summer.

Quite a few were Bernie/Hillary fans.

I was polite and courteous and so where they. I never brought up politics and neither did they.

We got along great.

Dont fire the first shot.

Good luck with that Sal, you are a better man than me. I couldn't do it.

You should move to Clark, Wy. no liberal weddings there. smile

I have to escort wifey to business dinners, banquets, as well as her family crap. I learned to go, pretend to have a good time. If I act like an ass, I only hurt both of us. Better to go with flow!!

Fortunately not with family. But my wife is an attorney and when we go to social functions with other attorneys I am told to keep my opinions to my self.

One of the good things about Alaska is that wherever someone is on the political spectrum the majority of people find common ground on fishing, food, travel, the beauty of the state. So I do my best to stick to those subjects. That and attorneys are notorious drinkers so I can keep myself occupied with free beer wink

Yeah,

Gonna attempts to hit Oktoberfest celeb at local brewery. Sure to abundance of libs. I'm just gonna try to enjoy any top shelf boobage that just might be in attendance!

Prosit!!!

I don't do those things anymore.

I came to the conclusion that life is too short short and my time is too valuable to voluntarily surround myself with people I don't care for.

Good luck to you.

That's right. Sal, sounds like your wife keeps you in Cali and now this, feel for ya bud. Have you asked all the tough questions, lately?

"I won't know a damned person there."

"Oh, Cousin Dingleass caught a fish once; you can talk to him."

I come from a long proud line of alcoholics. Family functions are great fun. Not many libs so it's not bad in that regard. But man they can get drunk....bad drunk! I don't drink much, except at weddings. There I'm a 2 rum and coke at a time kind of guy. But I know my limit and don't get belligerent.

I have one cousin that when we have get togethers, he has to use someone elses shower/bath, because his is full of ice and beer. He drinks from the time he gets up until he passes out. He's annoying as hell....while he's drunk. The others are more funny. Lucky for us, actual them and the public, we stay at hotels or resorts so there's no driving required....that'd be scary.

Who tells you that? Keep your opinions to yourself?

Many times and prepare to be baited. I tell my wife, one "shot" and I'll hold fire, but if they insist, I unload.

There's always one other normal guy to BS with, the trick is finding him. It takes a process of elimination. Start by eliminating anybody with a silk pocket square, skinny jeans, colored glasses, a man bun, a knit hat, etc.. The go to the bar and eliminate anybody drinking flavored vodka, flavored beer, appletini's, spritzers, or anything with a garnish. By that point there will probably be only a few candidates and one or more of them will pick the vegetarian dinner and you can rule them out too.

Good times at weddings/funerals.

Guaranteed a liberal will run his mouth, it is what they do. Good luck Sal. frown

Got the eye from some family at a funeral last year (family by marriage only).
The rest of us (mom's side) were all happy, and a bunch of deer hunters were talking together off in the corner.
The uptight ones were by our corner and didn't like us having upbeat conversation.
WTF?
Always have a great time at weddings and funerals...........moms side big, all conservatives, gun owners, deer hunters.
Shame we only get to see each other at weddings/funerals...............just the way it is.
Hell, one of my cousins is my hunting partner. We've been hunting together since we were 10 yrs old.

Weddings suck...........unless somebody is marrying into good hunting ground.
Posted By: hookeye Re: Dreaded Family Functions - 10/06/17
I got hammered at the ol lady's class reunion, was hanging w the deer hunters at the bar.
Pissed her off I had such a good time.
Haven't had to go to any since wink

I got one aunt left. And she owns 2 ranches. And my cousins ( her two boys) are awesome fellas.

Got just a few other good cousins left around who either hunt or fish like crazy.

Everybody else is dead as Julius Caesar. So we have good times!

I love it. I am too, even at work.
Im leaving tomorow for a family wedding. They are mostly liberals. They are used to me combating them but this time since Trump won and Dems not in control of either house .i will just ignore them. I figure why punch down.
Posted By: DoeSlayer Re: Dreaded Family Functions - 10/06/17
I rarely do family functions and have gotten pretty good at convincing my wife she should go without me. She'll usually come home after and tell me she should have stayed home also.

No one has to go to a wedding (or funeral), unless its yours.
I don’t like weddings in general and I only go to the weddings of people I care about..... the people I care about hate libs as much as I do. My nephew is getting married this coming weekend and I told my wife that I’m not wearing a shirt and tie. I’ll wear my best jeans and my “cleanest dirty shirt” or I ain’t going. My sweet wife said “it doesn’t matter what you wear it only matters that you show up” so I’ll show up. This is the third year in a row that I’ve been required to attend a wedding on opening day of deer season and the last year I’m attending a wedding during hunting season. Two years ago it was my brother, last year it was my hunting partners daughter and this year my nephew. My one sister (nephews mom) is very, very conservative and she wouldn’t invite liberals but I’m like Jorge in that I’ll let one stupid ass comment from a liberal slide but if they insist I’ll oblige. I’ve gone to more than a few events with liberals that I had them crying and cussing me out long after the event, those were fun times. 😁

Don't these guys know not to get married in hunting season since it puts a possible non-hunting obligation (anniversary) in their hunting season for the rest of their married lives?

Ask them about the 100 million or so who died in safe, gun free socialist regimes in the last 100 years. Also, about 25,000 of the 33,000 gun deaths in the US yearly are suicides and most the others are gang/drug related. Guns are used over 600,000 times a year to Stop an assault. How many of those would have died?
Good luck, sucker. wink

To those of you who have said you'll let one slide: Imagine how the lib would be whining about some micro aggression if you said the least little thing that could be misinterpreted. Yet they have no reservation about firing a deliberate opening shot.
Wear a MAGA hat. I wear it when I fly. Nice quiet flight with no one except the stewardesses bothering me.

ETA: And compliments from random people in the terminal, a black airline employee and the military guys.

I don't let anything slide, it's not my nature and I'm not changing. That said, if they don't say sheit, I ain't gonna start nothing either.

I am rarely forced into these things but it happens. I have finally learned to just not speak until spoken to. However, if a direct controversial question is asked, tact is not my failing...

Of course the last wedding we went to was this past July. The groom drove up in a 1950's vintage John Deere tractor and the bride arrived, with the bride's maids in a flat bed Ford. We were drinking moonshine by 7pm. I'm guessing that's not the type of wedding you're going to.

The only way for me to keep my mouth shut is to stay home.

My family is pretty varied. So are my friends. I'm used to differences of views. Keep the group you're talking to small. There are a lot of differences that don't matter when you're talking to someone one on one explaining personal experience rather than talking to a group where it becomes a matter of defending positions. Often times it's easiest to talk to either the far left or the far right but not both together.

Why don't you give them NRA memberships for their wedding gift?
You need to be nice. tolerant and polite. And you need to wear this. [Linked Image]

Donate a check for 3 cents to PETA as a gift in their name and with their addy.
My inlaws are a bunch of damn liberal city slickers. Except for my brother inlaw, who's a pretty decent guy, I haven't had anything to do with them in years. Lucky for me my wife doesn't get along at all with her bitch sisters either so it's not a problem staying away from them.

Going there on November 11th. My younger nephew is tying the knot.

I am the only living veteran in both families. I do not know why my sister insisted that I come. I know the bride does not care for me.

Set the alarm on your phone to ring every 10 minutes and set the alarm to sound like your phone.

Be nice for 9 minutes at a time and "I'm sorry, I need to take this call" if you need to escape for a few minutes?

I never initiate talking politics, but if a liberal starts running their mouth, I'm happy to play the game. Now fish politics, oh boy. The docks get pretty combative when dealing with commercial/sport/charter issues. The last few years I've gotten into it pretty good with a few guys.
Posted By: MadMooner Re: Dreaded Family Functions - 10/10/17
Folks tend to get a bit heated when it comes to an issue that directly affects their ability to make a living. Especially a lifestyle career like fishing, logging, ranching, etc...

We have a few libs in our family, courtesy of them being born and residing in palmyra and cherryhill nj sick, politics "almost" came up once at a family gathering, I said ma'am, your ears don't need to hear what i want to tell you, and you don't need this info running rampant in your diseased head, and you sir, my opinions would hurt your feelings to the point of just maybe causing you to run your mouth, which would instantly result with you having a whipped ass, that was 25 years ago, not a peep!

To get out of a wedding request I just ask them if they are going to invite me to the divorce as well.

I’m reasonably able to behave myself at family functions, but its a well known fact that I won’t attend anything in the months of November or April. I have my obligations.

My wife's family it's all about baseball, hunting, what gun you bought this month and how the liberals are [bleep] up the country.

I don't know much about baseball but it's okay cause I have a pretty good dog and I'm a pretty good shot.
