I'll start with mine, a Freedom Arms Premier grade .454 Casull, 10" Mag na ported barrel, with 2x Burris LER scope in TSOB 3-ring mounts. A wild pig killer, for sure!

If you leave that thing laying around in the snow like that, somebody's liable to think it's a 45- and steal it wink

Many have tried, and all have failed smile.

A couple that have done well on grass eaters in years past. Both 44's.

My current favorite is a factory stock Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt with a 5 1/2'' barrel.

9.5" SRH topped with a Weaver Quik Point dot.. My most accurate large bore..

This 5" 29-2 is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. That said, I really like any Model 29 of the 5" variety.

As the saying goes "From mice to moose". In this case, it is "From ground squirrels to elk".

Even a plastic gun can make a pretty decent hunting handgun. smile

I can't match that selection that Mackay laid out, but either of these ought to work.

These two get the nod this year. NM Super Blackhawk with Leupold scope and an OM .357 Blackhawk converted to .44 Special

I really like that bottom one.
Thanks, It's happens to be my favorite one.

Who did the .357 to .44 for you? Where do you live in CNY?
Nice pic ,,,,but it screams for a trip to Doug Turnbull for sprucing up...😬

Here's a newer one of mine that has yet been blooded. It's a custom .44 Mag Bisley by Huntington with a six-shot oversized cylinder, and a banded 5 1/2-inch barrel.

VERY nice, Max!

Mike
Here's a wild pig, meat hog size, I took last week with the .454.

I had all the work done by Alan Harton out of Houston Texas.
I live in the southern end of Onondaga County. South of Syracuse, but North of Cortland. How about you?

Call me a weirdo, but this one strikes me as the coolest hunting gun in this thread.
I've hunted with several different Blackhawks, the 45 Colt Bisley custom was my favorite, but this ugly 10mm is the one I am the most capable with in the woods now. The brake comes off for hunting, just no pic that way; it's not a very picture worthy gun.

[Linked Image]

This was my favorite before the 10mm, although I never did hunt with it after installing the brake. The oversized thread protector was for the "barrel band" look with the brake removed.

I liked that one a lot myself. Sentimental reasons.

High five !
I try to drag this out to the field every year and thus far it has accounted for one black bear, one wild hog, a water buffalo and it stopped a pissed off watusi from stepping on me. It's a .500 Maximum by Huntington.

Taken a bunch of game with these two Smiths

[Linked Image]
My .480 Ruger SRH has accounted for a number of animals. I have a an Ultradot 30 mounted up top.

grin

That is my "Taffin" gun.

The short version is that gunwriter John Taffin very graciously donated both the grip frame and the barrel for the project.

After a gun show in Boise one day at the fairgrounds, he invited me to the house and instructed me in how to swap grip frames. All in all a great guy.

The gun started at a 6.5" barrel, but I prefer the present length better.

Those M-34s always seemed pretty cool. I have always wished I picked one up when they were available at a much more reasonable price.

I have a no-dash 4" 63, but there is something visually appealing about those 2" blued guns.
Baer versus bunny:

Though I really prefer a longer barrel for a dedicated hunting gun, a 4" Model 29 packs easy and can do quite nicely when called upon.

I was on a motorcycle trip when these pics were taken, and the 4" 29 works pretty well for that role.

For post 6,000 it only seems appropriate that a .44 magnum be chosen.

This guy was only "shot" with the camera. Strictly a practice stalk, and "counting coup".
