Hello everyone,

I am a newbie to this forum, but I have been a Husqvarna lover and collector for many years. I would love to chat with anyone interested in Husqvarna firearms.
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Husqvarna - 10/17/03
Does this little 4100 get me in the club? It is an early one with a steel floorplate. I do have a weak spot for all the earlier Husky's (before the Tradewinds, Crown stuff). I would live to find one in 9.3x57 or 9.3x62.

Oh yea this one is a 7x57

I have a Husqvarna commercial 96 swede in 9.3X57. Just love that old craftmanship.
Posted By: sbhva Re: Husqvarna - 10/18/03
Hi Steelhead,

Nice ante. The 7x57 happens to be my favorite. I have 6 of them at the moment. It sounds like you prefer 1640 (HVA) action. Those were made in 9.3x62, but I have never seen reference to 9.3x57 in that action.

I have a Crown Grade in .358 Norma Magnum that shoots like a benchrest gun. Always wanted a .358 Norma and nearly wet my drawers when I turned the tag on this one over at a gun show about 12 years ago. Wasn't planning on buying a gun that day but the rest is history....

Hey!

Count me in on the Husqvarna lovers. I have a commercial HVA 6.5x55, a 640?? in 9.3x57 and just yesterday put on layaway a M-5000 in .30-06. I am unsure what I am going to do with the '06 as yet, since it is about my least favorite caliber. I think that rifle is secretly begging to become a 7x64. If anyone knows how to tell the models of these, please enlighten me. None of mine have a model marked on them anywhere. I would also be interested in any refereence material printed on these. TIA...the9.3Guy

dwt2,

Thanks for posting the website. I have already researched that one. While it is the best information I have seen so far, It doesnt give much information on Model's and identification.

I had printed off the info from that website. My 6.5x55 appears to be a Mod: 1640MC. Although the info states that it has a bakelite forend tip and mine has a rosewood tip.

My 9.3x57 should be a M-146. But according to that site the M-146 has a FN-98 action. Mine clearly has Swedish M-96 action. But it lacks the cocking piece on the bolt of the M-46 ARRRRGH!!! I'm confused as ever.
If anyone has any enlightenment, I'd be eternally greatful, TIA...the9.3Guy

The last action variation, the 8000 and 9000, with pie segment shaped locking lugs, were considered by Otteson in his bolt action book to be the most advanced Mauser 98 variation. I have a 6.5x55 9000, an extremely smooth action. Hard to adjust trigger though and there is no aftermarket available. My trigger now OK but took pro gunsmith time to get it right.
Posted By: Steelhead Re: Husqvarna - 10/20/03
I just found a 46 in 9.3x57, it will soon be mine. Thanks to this damn post, well I have always wanted one.

I see Hornady makes dies, Norma brass and off course bullets easy to find. I have some loading data in "Big Bore Rifles" for it.

Has anyone used 250 grain bullets in it? Loads? Can I neck up 8x57 brass? Thanks.
Posted By: AlleninAlaska Re: Husqvarna - 10/20/03
Steelhead you should be able to neck up 8X57 brass as that is the parent case or the 9.sX57. I have some Norma factory 232 and 286 grain loads. There is a lady in Oregon that sells ammo on the Gun Broker auctions that sells this ammo as well. Never tried the 250 grain bullets.

I can help you out with the models. I have become very good at determining the Husqvarna models based on answers to a couple of questions:

Serial number; barrel length; a detailed description of the stock (i.e. Monte Carlo or straght comb, forend tip or schnable, cheek piece, ets.); markings on the barrel; provision for iron sights.

I also have references books with detailed descriptions of the Swedish models which don't always correspond with the US models. Unfortunately, it is written in Swedish, but I can make out most of the technical terms.

I will be happy to try and answer any and all questions.

Here is another forum that can help answer questions. I am one of the moderators. The other moderator is in Sweden and he is extremely knowledgable about Husqvarna firearms. He is also the owner of Pettson's Place.

While the model 46 uses the 96 type action, it is not identical to the military version. It does not have the L-shaped cocking piece of the military guns. Model 46's would fall in the following serial number range: 501-14,006
Posted By: AlleninAlaska Re: Husqvarna - 10/21/03
Mine is serial# 5593 and it does have that "L" shaped cocking piece unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Only markings visible without taking the stock off are "Husqvarna Vapenfabriks A.B Kal. 9.3mm"

Kebco LLC Silversprings MD are stamped on the underside of the barrel just behind the barrel band sling swivel. This rifle was supposedly made in the late 20' or early 30's.

Gentlemen,
I have a S&W Model A made by Husqvarna but it is a barreled action only.....In trying to locate a stock I found out that it is not the original Model A but a Model 8000 action or a 1900 as shown in Pettson's link. It is chambered for the 30-06. I would have preferred the 6.5x55 but as you well know, all desires are not necessarily granted in this life. Does anyone know where I can find a factory stock? Any replies will be appreciated.

John,

Hansen & Hansen co. in Conn. is advertising stocks for Husqvarnas on Auction Arms. Their "handle" is "Lope" As far as I am concerned, they want too much money. But the worth of any given product is measured by how badly one wants it. Before I would deal with them, I'd check their feedback. Some of it is less than complimentary. You be the judge... Just passing along information. Hope it helps...the9.3Guy

Neighbor, I do thank you......I purchased one of their stocks some months back before I knew this rifle was not an original "Model A"......misplaced the invoice and could not remember......they sent me what I ordered but not what I should have ordered.......so I will check them out again and see if they have one that will work......I appreciate the "heads up" you have been kind enough to send my way...Once again, MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

I have a nice lightweight as displayed above in 308, a good 30-06 in the Monte Carlo style (both on the smaller HVA controlled feed action) as well as a near mint 50's vintage 9.3x62 on the FN 98 action that I plan on selling. I haven't got around to posting yet on the classifieds. Email me if any of you are interested.

Since this seems to be a continuing thread I must advise you of a recent purchase of a Husqvarna that I believe is an early model 648. A 98 action no markings with the thumb cut and clip slot, serial # 519XX, chambered for the 8mm Mauser. Have I correctly identified the model number?

Hello SBHVA: Glad you showed up here , your knowledge on the "World's Best Rifles" is invaluable.

I have a lovely older Husqvarna AB in 30-06 US , I'd love to know when it was made. The serial number is: 188174.
If you need more info , please let me know what to look for on the rifle.

Many thanks,

Posted By: HondoJohn6508 Re: Husqvarna - 09/28/04
sbhva,
Thank you for taking the time to assist me in determining the model #. It has a cracked stock just behind the tang but that is easily resolved. It has been drilled/tapped for a side mount (aarrrgggghhhh) but I feel sure I can locate the proper filler screw. Since this has been done...any collector value is out the window...I may install an Ashley Outdoors "ghost ring" peep ssight. I definitely plan on leaving it 8x57 Mauser. Properly reloaded this is a splendid cartridge but I am sure you were aware of that already. Preaching to the choir again.

Hi Bob,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I don't check this forum every day.

Hmmmm, I am going to need a complete description of your rifle. It seems there were some odd goings on with serial numbers in the 180000 to 200000 range. The gun should have the 1640 (aka. "HVA Improved mauser") action, but there was also a batch of guns made in this range that used FN actions. A pic or 2 would help. Husqvarna's practice was to serialize in numerical order, but during the period of 1956 thru 1959 there were 2 strings of serial numbers used. 186000 thru 190700 and 200000 thru 233300. At this point I don't have enough data to say with certainty why this was done.

Okay, Steve, maybe you can help me with my most recent acquisition, a 358 Norma Mag, serial #288,4XX.

Any idea what model it is and when it was made?

Thanks,

Posted By: sbhva Re: Husqvarna - 10/01/04
Hi Ted;

Your rifle was made in 1965. There were several different models produced. The difference between them was pretty much determined by the stock, sights, and trigger. With a detailed description I should be able to identify the exact model.

I have a 30-06 with iron sights, serial number 220578.
It has a broken stock. Can I use a stock for a Mauser 98?
I just want to fix it up for a customer who doesn't want to spend a lot, he just wants a shooter.
GWN
Posted By: sbhva Re: Husqvarna - 10/05/04
No, the serial number tells me that it is the HVA (1640) action, not the FN action. Perhaps a stock for a small ring mauser would work, but I don't know that for sure.

I may have a spare stock that would fit. Is this a short (lightweight) barrel or long barrel gun?
Posted By: GreatWhiteNorth Re: Husqvarna - 10/06/04
steve,
I think it might be a 96 Mauser, How do I tell for sure? It has a 20 inch tube and a forend like a Model 70 featherweight.
(sort of)

gwn
Posted By: akjeff Re: Husqvarna - 10/06/04
GWN,

Sounds like yours is an HVA like mine. Lightweight 20" barrel with sights, and schnabel forend. Mine has the aluminum bottom metal. The action screw spacing is the same as a M98 not the M96. Barrel threads will be that of a M96. The catch is, its outside dimensions of the receiver are a bit more trim than the M98. I suppose a little bedding compound would allow you to use a M98 stock. I got lucky, and will be able to salvage the factory stock on mine. The barrel is another matter. It was badly pitted. The action is currently at the 'smith having a Shilen 6.5X55 tube installed.

akjeff is correct. The rifle is a lightweight. Either a model 4100 (straight comb with cheekpiece) or a model 4000 (Monte Carlo comb with cheek piece). With that serial number, it would have the steel floorplate (which is tapered around the front action screw).

I may have a "user" quality spare stock. I will take a look. Or, you can check out the following auction if you want a "new" factory stock.

sbvha, (Steve)
Mine seems to have an aluminum floorplate and trigger guard,
the floorplate release is inside the trigger guard and the stock is straight comb with cheekpiece and a lot of drop. The poor thing was dropped out of a tree stand by someone who was borrowing it during deer season. What a shame! How much would your spare set me back? You could e-mail me at jimklatt@earthlink.net

I have a Husqvarna barreled action in 30-06 with what appears to be the FN Mauser style action. It has the three position military style safety, but no thumb cut or clip slot for loading from a clip. Rifle has standard Rocky Mountain style rear sight and is drilled and tapper for a receiver sight. No drill and tap for a scope. SN# is 117XXX. I think it might be a 640, but don't know for sure. It sure does have a nice slick action. I have seen the info on Pettson's place.

I have been trying to determine the model of a unfired Husky I bought from a friend of my father's but have not been able too. It's a push feed action and has a straight comb stock w/ cheek piece with the Schnabel for-end in 30/06. Has hooded front sight and a folding rear sight. These have the smoothest actions I've ever handled for a factory bolt action.
Posted By: sbhva Re: Husqvarna - 09/06/06
dusty61;

Your rifle was made in 1964. The model 3100 Crown Grade would have a straight comb stock (not a Monte Carlo) with either a rounded black plastic or angled rosewood forend tip. The barrel would be 24"

If your's is different, let me know and I will identify the model for you.

Yes, it is a commercial FN mauuser 98 action. The serial number indicates it was a 640 made in 1951.

It sounds like your rifle is a 1900 action gun and could be the model called the "Swede". The serial number and barrel length would allow me to confirm that.

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum. I just bought a Huaqvarna .243 that is just like the one pictured in this thread. It has a cheap Tasco scope that was on the gun when I bought it. I bought a box of 85 grain factory loads and took it to the range. To my utter amazement My first five shots at 100 yds were an inch high and an inch to the left of the bulls eye and you could cover them all with a quarter! I think this gun is late fifties early sixties era. I'll post the serial number tomorrow, perhaps some of the folks here can help me figure out the age of this gun. I just bought a new Leupold 3x9 scope and had it mounted. I have a friend loading two boxes of match grade ammunition which I will try out this weekend. I'm really excited about this little .243 for use as a varmint gun. It's little beat up but I don't mind at all. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

SBHVA welcome to the Campfire. Despite my site name I don't claim your expertise. We've chatted breifly before, I think on gunboards, mainly about deer hunting in Wisconsin. I only own three Husqvarnas, two 1900's and a Higgins 51L all in 30-06, but I truly love them. In the 1970's I was a dealer and rifle range master and ordered several Husqvarnas for my customers becaused they were the best buys at the time. You'll be an asset on the fire as there are frequent questions about the various models.

can u shed some light on this rifle for me?

if u need any more info please ask and i will see what i can get

PS hello 24hr

From the pictures and the serial number I can say that it is a recent production rifle made by Zoli in Italy. It is a close copy of the Husqvarna 1900 action design. These were sold in Sweden marked Husqvarna for marketing reasons only. Husqvarna stopped making rifles about 40 years ago. I have been told that the rifle is such a close copy that some parts are interchangeable with original Husqvarna production guns, but I have never tried that myself.

As a collector, the Zoli rifles don't hold any interest for me, so I have never owned one and I have never done any research on them.

thanks for that info

any idea when it might have been made?

I would guess within the last 15 years.

redline,

I, too, own an AZ-1900 in 6.5x55. I like the rilfe very much. According to the Blue Book of Gun Values, Importation into the US was discontinued in 1993. I believe they were only imported for 2-3 years. At one time, I also owned one in 7mm Rem Mag. I sold it because it had 1~11" twist, and wouldn't shoot anything heavier than 150 gr. bullets. (I prefer heavy-for-caliber bullets.)

As far as I know, they are still produced in Italy.

Hope that helps...

thanks guys i really appreciate it,

Edw do u happen to know the barrel twist in the 6.5x55?

redline,

I just pulled mine by the cleaning rod method. It measures out just less than 1~8". Likely 1~7.87" or 1~200mm. Which pleases me greatly. I've no intention of shooting less than 140 gr. bullets in it. I have other 6.5x55's that have 1~9 twist. (Specifically my Remington M-40-X.) That shoots 107 and 120 gr. Sierra matchkings into tiny groups. smile Also will soon have a Sako Hunter in 6.5x55 smile

BTW-I also own a .260 Rem Ack Imp with a 1~10 twist.

Isn't that the 6.5x55 you were sending me when you get the Sako?
