They are called potato throwers.It's not suggested opening the M-96 actions up,but it is great idea with the M-98 sporters.

What do you Husqvarna guys think of vintage military rifles? The Husqvarna Model 38 in 6.5x55? The 96? Are they good shooters? I am hot for one!

Bucktom;

From the serial number I can tell you it was made in 1960. I can't give you any further info without knowing exactly what model it is. You can either post some pics here or emial them to me at sbhvaaol.com

From the pictures and the serial number I can say that it is a recent production rifle made by Zoli in Italy. It is a close copy of the Husqvarna 1900 action design. These were sold in Sweden marked Husqvarna for marketing reasons only. Husqvarna stopped making rifles about 40 years ago. I have been told that the rifle is such a close copy that some parts are interchangeable with original Husqvarna production guns, but I have never tried that myself.

As a collector, the Zoli rifles don't hold any interest for me, so I have never owned one and I have never done any research on them.

redline,

I, too, own an AZ-1900 in 6.5x55. I like the rilfe very much. According to the Blue Book of Gun Values, Importation into the US was discontinued in 1993. I believe they were only imported for 2-3 years. At one time, I also owned one in 7mm Rem Mag. I sold it because it had 1~11" twist, and wouldn't shoot anything heavier than 150 gr. bullets. (I prefer heavy-for-caliber bullets.)

As far as I know, they are still produced in Italy.

Hope that helps...

Edw-

redline,

I just pulled mine by the cleaning rod method. It measures out just less than 1~8". Likely 1~7.87" or 1~200mm. Which pleases me greatly. I've no intention of shooting less than 140 gr. bullets in it. I have other 6.5x55's that have 1~9 twist. (Specifically my Remington M-40-X.) That shoots 107 and 120 gr. Sierra matchkings into tiny groups. smile Also will soon have a Sako Hunter in 6.5x55 smile

Edw-

BTW-I also own a .260 Rem Ack Imp with a 1~10 twist.
