I have a push feed M70 lightweight carbine in .308. Great handling rifle, sweet trigger, adequate accuracy.

I saw a 7-08 in a compact last fall while hunting in Wisconsin....I still kick myself for not buying it!

Sweet handling and powerful guns!

I bought a 7-08 compact a couple of months ago. Still in rotation, haven't fired it yet. Gonna order some Talleys one day.

This one is from WI alright. Sweet little tasco 3x9x40 on that little gun, and of course aluminum weaver mounts and rings. I'm suprised it doesn't have see-thru's on it, sights or not.

That is the first thing that will be fixed.

I have piles of those things...pulled off nearly every used 760/7600 I've ever bought.

No sights on this one, but it wouldn't have suprised me to see 'em on there anyway. laugh

I am betting that the lions share are sold in PA and NY states as well . I think they are standard issue on a PA machinegun

Nice lookin' gun Ingwe! Mine is CRF, with no sights. Don't know why, but I like sights on a gun...even if I can't see the damn things with my bad eyes.

YUP...
i think every 30-30 and 35 win has'em standard issue...LOL

Ingwe,

That Mod 70 doesn't look standard issue. Did you shorten the barrel? add sights? add an ebony tip? what else have you done to it?
Posted By: slabsides Re: Model 70 for me - 06/14/09
Those walnut-stocked 70's are pretty. My chance at a 70 was a 1985 era 'Ranger'. Hardwood stock that doesn't look like birch: has a nice grain but yellowish. Nice pad, floorplate, .270, push feed, sights. Shoots well. I love it except for the stock, which I can live with. Cost me so little. Lots of guys don't want Rangers...but they are still M70's at heart.

Dakota deer; sorry...just saw your post...yeah the gun has been modified ( can't really say"customized"...) Schnabel taken off, ebony in place, wrap around front sight, single leaf island rear, barrel band sling swivel, matte finish...

Ingwe:

Would you post additional pics of the 7x57? I'd like to see the engineering on the forend tip and the sights as well. Looks great.

Thanks, it's a nice looking rig. For some reason, when the sights are on it, especially the front, it makes the FWT contour barrel appear thicker, which is quite nice IMO.
Posted By: ingwe Re: Model 70 for me - 06/15/09
DD; Thanks, I missed part of your original question, no I didnt shorten the Bbl...you are right, the sights just make it look a little fatter. To the dismay of the pre-64 lovers...I like the XTR push feeds...7x57 is my favorite cartridge, so I spent a few dollars modifying that rifle, and like any semi-custom touches, I spent about $800 to turn a $600 rifle into a $350 Rifle!!! laugh

I just picked up a M70 Ranger in .270 Friday. Adjusted the trigger, cleaned the bore, and shot it on Saturday. 3-shot group measured 7/8" c-t-c. Works for me.
