This happens to be my favorite cartridge, and I currently own a Rem 700 XCR in this caliber. I will be upgrading this rifle with a McMillan stock, some kind of bomb proof scope mounting system and better optics. This rifle is a shooter giving me sub moa with plain old Remington core lokt foder. Show me your 7-08 rifles and maybe the mods you have made.
No pic. but mine is the plain Jane vanilla rem 788. Only mod made is a pad added for the Mrs. years ago. Still wears the cheap tasco scope that came as part of the package.
No problem,
Here is a neat little Browning micro-medallion.
It has been tricked a little.
Glass Bedded, trigger breaks at 1.5 lbs.
rebarreled with 22" stainless fluted barrel then action and barrel teflon coated.
Carries and shoots like a dream.

Wow very crappy pic. I'll try to do better. Anyway it's a model seven with a factory mountain rifle take-off chambered in 708. Shoots great and gotta Hunter's Edge ordered for it.
Mine is a Weatherby Mk v carbine.
Show me your 7-08 rifles and maybe the mods you have made.

Me too. What barrel contour on it?
Pretty sad, but after 10+ years and lots of deer to it's credit I don't have one pic of my Model 7 SS Synthetic
Here's my Faux Ti though (Gander Mtn Special) Leupold 2.5-8
Mine is a LVSF that Karl cleaned up and bedded in a McMilan Mt Rifle handle.
Plain Jane SS/S wearing a 2.5x8 Leupold with B&C reticle. Shoots lots of loads really well, this was with a 140gr. TSX
Snoopy the Chihuahua even thinks 7-08's are sexy. He has that "Y'all are idiots" look on his face huh?
Not a current picture. The picture shows it with a Nikon Monarch 2x7. It has a Leupold 4X with a post & duplex reticle now.
What barrel contour on it?
It'd be a Rock #3, 23 3/8" long, 1 1/8" shank, .625" muzzle.
Weighs in at 2 pounds, 5 ounces.
Bansner Ultimate One in BC
Rem 600 w/ 21" Douglas #1 and a Mcmillan EDGE in mtn rifle. No pics w/ animal but it took the deer in my avatar.

Heres mine, Classic Edge in olive green with black speck/bedded by Eddie F. Action work by Kampfeld, my go to rifle past couple years, I like it. Weighs 7 lb. 3oz all up.
Its removable ! Thats the way he builds them , they come with a threaded cap as well. He says it reduces muzzle jump WTF do I know. It's light and a tack driver and thats all I care about.
Wildone,
I'd trade my 7-08 for that goat most any day. Beautiful pix.
I bet that was one neat experience.

I wish it could be that easy. I would trade mine too!!
I've got two Model 7's. One is a SS model with a 2-7 Vari XII that has been given to my son. The other one....and my all time favorite...is one of the first year production Model 7's that has the 18" pencil thin barrel with the Kevlar (?) stock. Gun weighs around 5 lbs. if I remember correctly. I've shot 0.6" 100 yard groups with this rifle shooting handloaded Hornady 139gr. bullets.
I did have a Leupold 2.5-8 Vari-XIII on it til this past fall when I put a Ziess VM/V Diavari 2.5-10x50MM with illuminated reticle. The scope looks huge on the rifle but the clarity is absolutely the best of any scope I have ever owned. Plus being over 50 the 'ol eyes sure appreciate good glass.
some good lookin' rigs and some fine scenery and pix.
Get me all worked up on a cold wet Sunday afternoon.

Great lookn' goat and rifle
My oldest daughter, Sierra (who like her younger sisters Cheyenne and Nevada, had only shot 22 rimfires before) uttered her first smiling words - after shooting my 7mm-08 Remington Titanium (1st generation) with the Remington Reduced Recoil cartridges - her comment was - "WHAT A RUSH!"
She proceeded to group three shots into about a 1 1/2 inch triangle at a target on a hillside about 90 yards away. It was this reaction - that made me re-think the need of getting a smaller caliber in order to introduce my three small young daughters to deer hunting. They have all decided they want to shoot the 7mm-08, with reduced loads, at deer.
This is my 7mm-08 Remington Ti - along with my happy middle daughter, Cheyenne.
This is mine, Sako75 Action with LW 1:9 twist fluted 22" barrel. McM Varmint Stock, trigger 'tweaked' to break at 1.5 lbs. Accuflite bolt shroud to get rid of the Bolt Key thing. Near Mfg rail and Rechnagel rings.
Shoots 140 Gn NBT over 40.5 Gns RL15 at 2835 into silly small groups, and kills effectively on Roe, Fallow, Red, Pigs on occasion with 140 Gn Accubonds.
Good luck with yours.
Peter
Tikka260,
Wow on the rifle

The 140 gr. accubonds are my bullet of choice in the 7mm-08.

Damn Carl Ross! Super good looking rig, the scenery around it's none too bad either. What mix on the color?
Plain Jane 700 Mountain Guide, talley lw and VXIII 2.5-8.
Thanks GW,
I'd be pleased if you could let me know what an 'Axis' is... and excuse my ignorance.
Accubonds just go clean through our small deer species , Roe, Chinese Water Deer, Muntjac with very little expansion so long as you don't hit the bony bits. So I use NBT most of the time, and they work fine, with acceptable meat damage. The great thing is that they shoot to the same point of aim, at the same speed, so interchangeable depending on the quarry species.
That Fallow doe was 'necked' at 75 metres, happy to say that she DRT, as she was suffering from starvation induced by eating a bunch of baler twine and electric fencing wire, but of course that wasn't obvious until she was on the grass. Her rumen was blocked up with the twine and the grit she'd been eating to try and shift it; I guess.
That's why she looks so skinny, just a bag of bones really.

Uhmm... I think the Barbie 7-08 in the above picture and this black one here should be swithced...
Here is my other one. Trying to decide on the bases/rings. Scope will be a 6x36 or 42 or a 2.5-8.
I saw a realy pretty one at the gun show today. Savage American Classic.. Black Walnut stock.
Another Mt. Goat and 7mm-08. This time a Nula.
Here's one of mine. Lightweight sheep build, Gordy Gritters custom. Painted by me.
i bought this ruger frontier in 7-08 a few years ago and Jr got his first deer with it so he claimed it. i then bought a 338 fed frontier and his twin immediately claimed it. A guy could have worse problems i suppose.
Man I like that stock Carl, one of the better looking Mic- Swirls I've seen...!
ruger 77mkII UL in target grey.
Peter,
At the turn of the century and since, there were many species of exotic deer from Africa, Formosa, India and other places brought into game ranches in the Texas hill country Over the years as floods and time knocked down those fences these animals have escaped. They thrive and multiply and are free ranging in much of the area. There is very little public land here for hunting. Most folks like myself have an annual lease where they pay a "trespass fee. I'm now hunting a 1,700 acre pasture out of a 50,000 acre ranch.
Anyhow, depending on your location you will have free ranging axis deer. As they are not indigenous, they can be shot year round and are excellent table fare.
You can do a google search to find out more if you like but here are a couple of representative pix. These are free ranging, taken off a low fence ranch and no trophy fee.

Faux Ti...Gander Mountain Guide, Ti Stock, Mountain Rifle Contour, with a set of Gentry bases & rings I picked up off the 'Fire along with a 6x42 Leupy FXIII of same origin...
It's a great little rifle, and really shoots - with a variety of ammo...
She'll do this real consistently if I'll do my part...
Problem is, I've got this other 7-08 that will not let me hunt with the little Remington...
It keeps killing everything, and has sort of become a big buck magnet...I haven't hunted it as much this year since I've been guiding kiddos and running a Faux Ti 243 a bunch...Maybe that's why I haven't found a big one this year...grin.
Oh, well - the last few years have been pretty good with her..

Was flipping through the classified ads the other day and was lusting after this.
Wife must have sensed the testosterone and came to take a peek over my shoulder to determine what had captivated my online interest. To my surprise, she says, "Oh that's nice, you never got a camo one - you should get it!" So, its en-route and soon will sport a simple M8 4x longtube. It's Brush Country Camo, Rem 7 syn, 3-hole chromoly. OT

Boring run of the mill,1st Gen Ti...as it fell outta da box.
She's a little rough around the edges anymore..............(grin)
Many years ago, I thought the Brown Precision Mountain Rifle had to be the perfect deer rifle. It was a modified M600 Rem that had a M700 bolt handle installed along with the Brown fiberglas stock. A few other mods were made to reduce weight like turning the factory bbl down to pencil like thickness. The 7mmX08 had been recently legitimized by Remington and I thought the Brown concept in that caliber would be perfect.
My shadetree gunsmith and I commenced to building one of these on the cheap. The M700 bolt handle was installed along with a Brown Precision stock I bought. Then he chambered and installed a Douglas XX air gauged bbl in 7mmX08.
The rifle turned out every bit as I expected it would. Light, sturdy, accurate, and in a caliber that few others at the time had. Cost me quite a bit, but it had scratched my itch very well.
About six months after I had gone to all of the expense and bother to build this little jewel, Remington introduced the M7 in several calibers which included the 7mmX08. The only real difference in my rifle and the M7 was the M600 roll mark on the side of it's action. My rifle cost me about 50% more to build than what I could have bought a M7 for.
Timing is everything......
Later on I'll tell you about finding an old M1895 straight gripped Marlin and bobbing the bbl back to 18" to use as a short, portable 45-70 thumper. About six months after finishing it, Marlin introduced the Guide gun. As I said, timing is everything......
My boy's killing stick.
RMEF raffle ticket rifle.
If the rifle is out of the safe a photo of a smiling kid is usually not far behind.
I showed this on another thread but thought I'd add to this one also. GAP put it together, stainless surgeon action, Rock #3 barrel at 23 inches. Banser stock self painted.
The people with Remington Ti are just about perfection.
Model 70 stainless Ultimate Shadow, would be my guess.
You take some mighty nice pictures!
Been lots of fun watching your son grow up killing so many nice critters!
Thanks for your posts.

That's about all you'd ever need to shoot out of a 7mm-08, Neil.
One of my favorite calibers as well. I have 3, just traded one for a 7x57 - the 3 siblings needed their metric parent! My favorite of the lot is the Ed brown Ozark with Mcmillan stock, 21" Shilen barrel and Shilen trigger.
Just a standard Kimber 84M. Never cared for syn/glass stocks--definitely a wood slut here. These Kimbers are, IMO, one of the nicest factory rifles out there. Being in a 7-08 is just a big plus!
Sorry, my crappy spur-of-the-moment pics don't do it justice. If I get a nice sunny day I need to retake photos outside.
