I have not seen an a Remington 700 XCR11 (TriNyte finish)in the flesh,so for those that have, how would you describe the finish of the barrel/action ?

Is it high gloss, semi gloss or matt finish ?
Posted By: gorskij Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/10/11
Pretty much a matte finish.

Have one in .30-06. I think it actually looks really good with the green stock. I like it alot. As a rugged, all-purpose rifle, it's perfect for me.
Posted By: KDK Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/10/11
Is it smoother than the gravel-blast on SPS rifles?
Posted By: CLB Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/10/11
Matte finish. Metal quality looks very nice. Dump it into a good stock and you're good to go.

Yes its a smooth finish not like the SPS finish and its a matte finish

I have two 7 Mag and 30.06 both sre MOA shooters ( factory ammo, not reloads )with the green and black factory hogue overmold stocks, I like them so much I think I'll order one in .300 WSM. I think they look fantastic with the black trinyte finish in the olive drab green and black stock. To answer your question I would call it a Matte Trinyte finish.............HB

I have 2 of them a 300 RUM and a 338 Win mag like them both

I think the stock is fine for tupperware ... I had some QC issues with mine in 375 H&H, but my local gunsmith sorted it out quickly. It's real accurate. They're real light though, mine with the Leupold VXR 2-7x weighs only 7 1/2 lbs. I trusted it enough to take it bear hunting. I have the slip on Limbsaver because of my gorilla length LOP.

I have one also and the description by others as a matte black is correct. I am in the process of breaking in the barrel. I noticed the barrel isn't free floated. Are they all like that?

Wow, that must be a really light scope & rings to only go 7.5 lb. since the bare gun goes 7.375 lb............

Might want to re-check that scale again.

I weighed the gun when it came in. It weighs 6 3/8 lbs NOT 7 3/8 lbs. I was kind of shocked. Do a search on other folks that own them too. I was really concerned it would be a bear for recoil but shooting 375 H&H rounds it's fine. Here's a link from another campfire member ...

Well, whatever you say - your gun, your scale.......but that 375 barrel is heavier than what's on a standard mag on an XCR, which I have handled & those just don't weigh 6 3/8 lb..........that what my KS weighs & XCR's have heavier barrels than KS's do & weigh more.

So something just doesn't add up.

Maybe my scale is jacked up. I can tell you the XCR II in 375 H&H with it's Leupold 2-7x scope on it is a pound lighter than my 70s vintage Rem 700 BDL in 270 with a 3x9 Redfield on it, both weighed on the same scale.
Posted By: toad Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/16/11
the .375 XCR II i handled had what sure looked like the Remington magnum contour barrel profile, just like my stainless SPS .375 RUM. the XCR II has a 24" barrel, and my SPS had a 26" barrel. (i cut it though)

i did not weigh my SPS in the factory stock, but dropped into a AK Ti stock it is about 8# ready to hunt (optics, Montana sling, three rounds)

I had the xcr in 280 rem and it weighed less then 6 1/2 lbs...When I bought it I thought that it would be close to the catalog weight. I put it on the postal scale and was shocked.

I too noticed that The XCR II"s are very light, My 30.06 with Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 in Talley lightweights with an Uncle Mike's mountain sling weighs 7.72 lbs on a certified scale, My XCR II 7mm Mag outfitted exactly the same weighs 8.03 lbs. I don't know why but these rifles are considerably lighter than Remington's notoriously accurate spec sheet has them listed(laughing)............Hb

I want to get a scale and weigh my 2 XCR II's
Posted By: MontanaMan Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/16/11
If my dealer has any in stock, I think I'll take my scale in & weight it..........last time I was there, he had a Bone Collector version.

If they really are 6 3/8 lb, I'd buy one in a 280; the finish one them is very slick & attractive.

Please let me know what it weighs as I used my youngest son on our digital bathroom scale and did a difference measurement (him without gun, him with gun) for both our 1970's scoped BDL in 270 and the XCR II in 375 H&H scoped. The BDL came in at 8 1/2 lbs the XCR II came in at 7 1/2 lbs but the scale / method could easily be a pound off.

My 280 weight is close to 6.5 lbs. I am now looking for a 25 06 in the XCR II next to imposible to find. I really like the fit and finish of my 280. It will be a great foul weather gun. I just cannot get away from wooden stocks.
Posted By: VaHillbilly Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/18/11
XCR II's are a little scarce right now, I looked for a good while before I finally found one in 7mm Mag, I even called Remington and they said not a run scheduled of XCR II's in 7mm Mag till December confused I thought that odd for a caliber this popular.........Hb
Posted By: ts300wsm Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 10/18/11
It took me almost 3 months to find one in 300 RUM

Don's Hobby Guns has some for sale including a 25-06. I have a 280 in a McMillan that shots awesome.

I have a McMillan waiting for just that action.

I had my gunsmith, Kevin Weaver do a few mods to mine.

Sako extractor. The stock extractor was too large and would barely allow a Rem factory round to be chambered. It feeds and extracts like butter now, extraction is greatly improved.

Bolt handle welded on. Just in case you know.

Heavier stainless firing pin and heavier spring. Primer's weren't being dented quite enough for my taste in a DG rifle until this fix was put in.

Rechambered to 375 Weatherby. Just always wanted one.

I got a very good deal on the rifle new, so all totaled not including scope, I have about $1000 in the rifle and I'm very comfortable relying on it when things get a bit tense in the bush.

You guys are making me want one now! I saw a few down at the local sporting goods store I'll have to check out.
Posted By: BIGR Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 11/30/11
Nice looking rifles for sure. I would buy one if they would offer it in a lefty version. They made the XCR in a lefty version for just a short period of time and I sat on my butt and let them slip away. Just about the time I talked myself into trying a left hand bolt gun they were gone. However I do have a 30.06 and 7 MAG in the XCR right hand version. They are workhorse rifles that will take any weather you encounter. I would think the XCR II would be just as good.

Toad, what is the bottom metal on that?

My XCR .270 WSM with a 6X leupold and weaver mounts was a hair over 7 pounds all up...so ya...they aint no 7 3/8 pounds....
Posted By: 47stalker Re: Remington 700 XCR11 - 11/30/11
I had one in 375H&H. Fed, extracted & shot MOA with 3. 7.9lbs with 2.5-8x36 vx3, Talley UL & 4 rounds.
I pulled off a good head shot(deer on the run) whilst stalking with this gun. The best part, my son was present. Don't think I could do it again(grin).

alloy Badger Ordinance M4. kind of expensive, and the inlet needs a little work, but they are a huge step up from the factory bottom metal.
