Didn't Barrett buy Forbes?
Action looks heavier than the Forbes/NULA...probably wouldn't be cutting flats on Melvin Forbes receiver. At least they started with stainless.
Anyone want to guess the price?
Hah, check out the comment on that webpage
The short action is 5lbs and the long action is 6lbs. The 22-250 has a 1/7 twist.

Are you giving weight for the rifle or just the action minus stock? Where does the info come from?
Weight for the rifle and I made a mistake, the long action rifle is 5.6lbs. The information I have came from a Barrett spec sheet.
Like the all stainless. Good move on their part. Any info on your spec sheet of other cal/twists/barrel lengths?
22-250 1/7 21"
243 1/7 21"
6.5 Creed 1/8 21"
7-08 1/8 21"
308 1/10 21"
25-06 1/9 24"
6.5x55 1/8 24"
270 1/10 24"
30-06 1/10 24"
Thanks. Appreciate that. Might have to try one! Wish they were doing a 280 of some flavor.
You know with Barrett that you get quality stuff. I'll buy one in 6.5 Creedmoor.

got mag box specs?
Are threads gonna be optional, or std?
The twist rates alone tell me a true rifle loony holds the reins
Wonder who is making the barrels...
3" mag box and threaded models will be available. I don't have the info on the barrel maker.
Whoa! That's sounding Maux bettah.
A .22-250 and 6.5 Creed/.308 threaded pair would check a lot of boxes and fill a lot of freezers...
Mr. Barrett could do a run of 1-7 .223 AIs as 24HCF Specials!
Call it the Grand Poobah?
Love to see a .284 with 3" mag.
Are they blind mag or floorplate?
I'll start saving my money.
Does anyone know if they will be individually bedded?
Handled one today at the NRA show, appeared to be a well built rifle handled well and the action was smooth...the ladies working the booth didn't know much about it when I had questions, be interesting to see how they pan out !
Yes they have a blind mag and are individually bedded.
Love to see a .284 with 3" mag.
I like the way you think!
Spent a while with them today. I'm impressed.

I'm liking everything about them so far.
Do you know the long action mag box length? Thanks
so are they using ultra light arms stock and receiver style ?

Money is in hand....

The receiver is NULA with some modifications. I didn't get a good answer on the stock question. The grip didn't feel as closed as Melvin's on the SA model, but the LA model felt identical to his stock.
The twists are right and it's all stainless. The finish was immaculate on the two I played with. I was told the mag boxes were identical to his rifles since it was basically his action.
I would also vote for either a 284 or 6.5-284 in the short action with the longer 24 inch barrel. Hopefully shortactionsmoker gets some lefties in his shop this summer!
Hey SAS, is Melvin involved at all?
I'll be intrested when these start showing up for sale. They sound like a nice light gun
SAS
I'm interested in one of these also.
David
Fast twisted, light weight rifles with a 3" magazine from a stand up dude like Ronnie Barrett?
What's not to like about that? I hope they knock it out of the fΓΌckin park!
A 7-twist .22-250 should push a 70 TSX or 85-grain Burner fast enough to smite most hogs & deer a bit farther and harder than most 22 CFs...
Hey SAS, is Melvin involved at all?
Don't know, but I doubt it.
SAS, are you considering selling these through the store?
We'll be a dealer. They're a month or so out though.
I looked at one at the show today as well. Looks a lot like a Forbes/NULA stock to me. The action had a few changes, not sure I like the dark trigger guard with the stainless action, but I could live with it. I will buy one.
SAS, Do you know the actual price not the MSRP?

Will they be offering 280AI? Twist?
David
I do not need a 6.5 Creed, I do not need a 6.5 Creed, I do not need a 6.5 Creed, I do not need a 6.5 Creed...
Dammit, I like the looks/specs of these. Is a street price of $1500-$1600 too much to ask for?
Yes they have a blind mag and are individually bedded.
Anyone know if they are free floated or if they will have a full length bedded barrel?
Hey SAS, is Melvin involved at all?
I spoke to Mr. Forbes today and he is not involved. So almost an entirely new venture for Barrett. I guess everything is done in house.
That 22-250 looks promising
Not knocking Barrett, or Melvin's action, but a fella could bed a Montucky and save money. Or rebarrel, if needed/desired, for the same or less monies? And, it seems that this rifle is NOT a NULA.
More options/brands/etc. is a good thing, but how does this action compare to a Montucky? What's this rifle bringing to the table, other than a more closed grip? Faster twist?
1. Extraction? Rem 700 or M16 style?
2. How robust is the bolt stop?
3. How does it handle stray gas (case rupture, or pierced primer)?
4. Is the bolt 1-pc? If not, how does the handle attach?
The fact that it has a left hand option makes it more interesting to me when compared to a kimber! I have no idea why kimber refuses to make a lefty.
And since I have not actually looked this new action over I can't answer your other questions. I would assume all of it is just like a NULA or Forbes action but that would just be speculation at this point for me.
The twist rates are quick in all of them and that with the 3" mag box brings a lot to the table. I like the Montana (a lot) and you can rebarrel them to any twist you want, but you can't grow the mag box.
Hard to argue with the 3" box, or the lefty option for those that need it.
Really nice setup. The stock design looks close to a NULA, which if so would be a deal killer for me. Regardless, I would like to handle one.
Damn, just saw this. Glad to see someone has a clue.
Obviously the Yankees can't figure twists out. Good on Barrett.
I bet the guys at Barrett were laughing their asses off when LAW rifles came on here without a clue.

No doubt. Wonder how things are over at LAW, speaking of them.
Anyone hearing anything more on these? I know they said they would be available for "hunting season." Our season starts in a month ... π
I called and spoke to Barrett and they said "likely December." So maybe "their" hunting season. π
Thanks for the update. They've been on my mind but I never got around to calling.
SAS, can you get us an update on when these rifles will be available through Whittaker? Chomping at the bit here...

Did they specify which year?π
Seen this delay many times in the shooting industry, I hope they haven't run into any issues. I too am looking forward to the first reviews to see if I "need" one.
Sweet Louise, apparently patience is lost on many. Now we have to create 'issues'
People baffle me
Later and right beats rushed and screwed up every time.
Reference R51 debacle.
Lucky bastard.
Thanks for posting - looks pretty damn nice. How is it shooting?
Did you weigh it without the scope?
Does it have a nula style safety that can lock the bolt?
Don't just tease us! Please give some details. What does it weigh? Cost? Waite time? Any idea whose barrel is in it?
Weighs 5lbs without optics and does not have the NULA safety.
Msrp is $1799. I don't know what make the barrel is.
