People will probably make fun of this but I really like my Ruger M77 MkII Stainless, in the Zytel stock, with sights, and I replaced the tire tread with a Limbsaver recoil pad. But it's tough, and shoots good. Wears a 2.5-8 X 36 VX3.

I have 3 Rem Mod 6 rifles ( 6mm Rem, 270 W, & 30-06 ) that are sweet looking rigs. For any not familiar w/ M 6 they are dressed up M 7600s. I plan to bloody the 6, 30-06 for my first time. I call it 6-OH 6.

I don't own my second answer but I DROOL over the older Colt Sauers, as in JPSauer. & Sohn. Any cal/cartridge would do, a 270 or 06 probably.

I like the looks of Ruger Mark II / Hawkeye types, bead blasted in McMillan Classic and Pacific Research (probably my most favorite stock)stocks.
A continual long time favorite is an older 338 Win Mag Mark II stainless in a Pacific Research. Followed by a re-barrelled, stainless 375 Ruger Mark II Hawkeye in a McMillan Classic.

I also like M70's, modified CZ's, Mark X's / Whitworths, older Browning Safari types, and of course others.

I really like the look of a model 70 in good wood. Also always liked the looks of a Mauser Mark X.

I've loved the look of the pre-64 M70 for many years - probably why I was determined to buy my first years ago.

I like them all but lately I really like the look an old JM marked Marlin with a set of peeps or a low power scope and a leather sling.

A couple come to mind, both with distinct lines. A Savage 99, and a Browning BAR.

I let 200 yard targets determine whether or not I like the looks of a rifle.

I think the rifle you are referring to is actually known as the "Model Six"...not 6. There actually was a "Model 6" many moons ago. It is actually spelled out "Six" on the rifle. All that aside, it's got my vote too. It is hard to beat the lines of that rifle. It is a standout. I like and own more bolt action rifles, but they don't standout...they all just look like a bolt gun although some are uglier than others. I also believe the Marlin 1893 with a pistol grip and full octagon barrel over a full length magazine is another standout, possibly a close second to the Pennsylvania machinegun.
You can't "kill" the lines of the 760/7600/Six, even with a carbine barrel or those ridiculous "see thru" scope rings everyone had to have back in the late 70's early 80's. You can easily kill any lever gun with a half magazine or that equally ridiculous half octagon barrel. Nothing kills a rifle for looks faster and more completely than a Mannlicher stock. I remember the first time I saw a Ruger "International"...international what??? Puke machine??? I blew a 4" column of vomit all over the wall!!!
The only acceptable bolt gun with a full length stock would have to be the 1903 Springfield, but only IF it had a Unertl scope and a "C" stock on it.

In bolt guns, my Kimber of Oregon custom classic 22 Hornet is a good looking rifle. In larger calibers my preference led me to a handful of REM 700 Classics from the 80's and 90'.

My most often used rifle is a stainless/synthetic bolt action, but I wouldn't call it my favorite looking rifle.

I'm kinda partial to plastic rifles.

This one spends a lot of time outdoors, plus in a truck, on an ATV, in a combine, on a tractor, on a horse and I like it's style.

The Husqvarna's imported by Smith and Wesson and the subsequent FFV Carl Gustav Husky's make my heart go pitter patter.

I won't say my Sako Finnlights are good looking, but they feel great, and are pretty weather proof. Falling down on the hunt here is pretty much guaranteed.
I have rifles I would hate to carry in the woods because they are too pretty.

I like the "looks" of my old model 70's the best, but prefer hunting my m1917.... ....:

I once had a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe that I bought new around 1976. That was the nicest looking rifle I have ever owned. It shot great as well for about 30 years and then the accuracy fell off so I sold it (got twice what I paid for it).

Pretty gun:
My 7MM08 remington Mountain Laminate SS in its nutmeg stock. Pretty wood, older shiny SS Remington used to use.

The iffy shell feeding and so-so accuracy offset the pretty-ness of it enough that it gets out only once every few year.

Reliable & performance gun:
I'm really liking my SS browning x-bolt 3006 for being consistent and designed well

OTOH - Here is my Win 70 Black Shadow in 300 WM. I like the looks and feel of this stock. It's NOT hollow so it doesn't get COLD as an iron wedge. **( I have a Rem 700 ADL synthetic in 7 RM. It's a great shooter but in COLD Wx it feels like you're holding ICE)**

I would take this one on a "rough hunt". I've killed several WT with this rifle. It fits ME and I'd take it on any hunt I wanted. Actually IF I get drawn for an Ark Elk permit this is probably the rifle I'd take.

Of all the M Sixes made roughly 1/2 were in 30-06 and ONLY around 1000 were in 6mm Rem.

I don't know if you were involved in a thread in the Deer Hunting Forum but there was a lengthy thread entitled Deer Hunting & Pump Rifles. If interested do a search in that thread under that title and key word Mag Marc. There are @ 6 pages and a lot of pics.

Marc, SKane, Whelen Man, BobinNH and others participated. Unless I'm mistaken the totals and % of cartridges chambered in the M Six are in the latter pages.

No pics, but picture, if you will, a well worn but mechanically tight Winchester M54. Crisp bore directed by a Lyman receiver sight, .30-30 chambering, with many tales of derring-do in Eastern Woodlands absorbed in its walnut stock.

I'm really partial to Rugers 77s. They just feel unbreakable. My favorite is a 338 Federal in a McSwirly with 2-7X Firedot.

I have a soft spot for Rugers that look like that too.

For pure lookin' hard to beat a Dakota Model 10,a pre '64 M70, or one of the Cooper bolt guns.

Of course a nicely stocked #1 gives me wiggles.

Full custom VZ24 .257 Roberts(3 inch), was personal rifle of deceased Custom Gunmakers Guild member.

This is one of my all time favorite Rifles. I knew that I had to have one when the 1981 Win catalog came out. I got a 270 Win and let that one get away from me but replaced it in 2011.



It works. This one is 6.5X55 that I bought from 'bangeye' here on the 'fire.
First DAY to hunt it 11/2012. I'm in timber and it's cloudy.

I've watched the thread several times and enjoyed it. I really kick myself for not scooping up a 3006 at a gun show because I wanted to find a 308.. I have yet to see another at a gunshow.

I'll mention I avoid gunshows now because I have a gun buying addiction...

My favorite outdoor rifle (Kevlar stocked 721) is not even close to the one I like the looks of best -- hard choice, maybe my 1885 45-90 or my pre 64 375 H&H AI.

My favorite indoor rifle shoots salt. I use it on flies. It is my a-salt rifle.

I have a pair of Sako Finnbears in 264 Win Mag with the 26 inch barrels. Same scopes, mounts, and slings. I like them a lot.

I love the simple classic lines and balance of this 1960's era Sako Forester Carbine in .358 Win. It's an elk slayer!



My current favorite is this Kimber Hunter in 6.5 CM. It's very light, has perfect balance and ergonomics and also is showing signs of being superbly accurate....

Of all the standard factory rifles being produced, I have to say I like the lines of a Model 70 Featherweight better than any other. I think Ruger 77s come close. That may be why I have three of them. Marlin Guide Guns look great too.

When you start talking about custom grade rifles, I have seen some of the nicest wood on Dakota rifles. They have nice lines as well.

As much as I appreciate figured walnut, there's something about the way a stainless rifle with a tan stock looks that I really like.

I think that's pretty funny after all the fussing that went on when Ruger went from shiny to matte. I've got a shiny 77/22 RSI and a Hawkeye Predator and Hawkeye All Weather, and like 'em all. Stainless and light-colored walnut go great together.

Don't have pics handy, but about 25 years ago USRA - Winchester had a thing called Winlite. blued steel on a black McMillan Stock with no checkering. The Featherweight version had the usual featherweight schnable at the tip of the forend (but not the curved checkering the wood fwts have. That had to be the nicest looking plastic production rifle ever.

These days, I'm rather fond of the Ruger No1. Probably a long barreled No1S (like the .300 H&H they had a few years back with a 26" bbl) is the nicest looking of them.

Didn't buy one till bout 13 years ago and should have done so a long time before that...

Here is my favorite wombat blaster. Please note the superior Savage Precision Target Action, manufactured from melted meteor alloy fallen from the sky, and a perfect Pac-Nor barrel made by Oregon Elves in a hillside factory concealed by an enchanted fog. I bedded and finished the stock while smoking a Macanudo Estate Reserve 2015 Churchill stogie and drinking a Caffeine Free Diet Coke. It is chambered in .204 Ruger, or .223 Remington, or 6mm PPC, or .243 WSSM, or just about anything else as the whim strikes me, and I ain't too lazy to swap the barrel. I forgot what the scope is, but most likely a Bushnell Elite 4200 6.5-24. This is a true outdoor rifle as it weighs 14 pounds and is seen rested on my high-wheel portable shooting bench, one never hoofs through the wild places without wheels to carry this magnificent boat anchor. Speaking of anchor, this rifle saved me during a sudden wet microburst, when it prevented me from being blown into Washington State from east of Redmond, Oregon. That was quite a day, started out with sleet, followed by winds and rain, then the microburst, then sunshine and gales. Sage rats died by the buckets full. All of which proves the superior quality of stamped, cast and billet parts gnawed out on CNC machining enters attended by Chinese robots in Massachusetts.

Blaser K95, a break open single shot, is my favourite, by far...

I have a ruger 77 tanger that someone that really knew what they were doing re shaped to a much thinner profile added a ebony forend cap and rechecked with a nice 22 lpi pattern. Makes a nice classic style rifle.

My favorite is this custom on a mauser 1909 action with a 22" octagon barrel in 30-06. I got it a year ago and shot a nice buck with it.

Now I have scoped it with a 3-9x36 Swarovski Z3 in Conetrol mounts. It stays sighted in which is my demand of hunting rifles.

I've looked at that rifle a bunch, but figured BSA would never part with it. About a year ago I set out to build my own. Came up with a 1957 M70 Fwt in .270 (same year as me). McM Edge fill stock, brown paint, red pad. Biggest difference is that I have a Lyman 48WJS aperture sight mounted instead of the scope. Hope to take a deer with it this year. Will post up pics sometime...

Sounds like a sweet set up. A Lyman 48 sure seems handy to carry and I'd like to try the same one year. Will be waiting for the pics.

A tang safety M77 in .270. The stock (but not the action) used to belong to Jack O'Connor. It was a gift from Bill Ruger. Originally it was a 7x57. It was broken and a new stock was sent to O'Connor.

Sent the blank to Dennis Olson in Plains, Mt.

He used his pattern to turn the blank for me.

I did the final fitting and finish work. I used Art aka Sitka Deer's warm epoxy finish method then sent to Tim Smith Lyon for checkering.

Ok that 770 loan collateral rifle I was obligated to buy back from a friend of my deceased brother is a pos. I finally have a boat gun that is never gonna become a hunting rifle as the last two did ( they turned out to be really good shooters!)

Neat rifle. Were you able to zero it with the factory front sight? My 30-06 featherwight shot high.

My eg 250 savage, with my wheelbarow deer cart.

I've always liked the Sendero SFII's too. Brushed stainless with blackened flutes is nice. This one's been bedded in Steel Bed and Jewell trigger in 7mmRM. Shoots 168VLD's around 1/2".

Different rifle, different deer, same wheelbarrow.

This Browning BLR in 308 is probably my favorite rife. I sold one like it years ago and always wished I had it back. It suits me and the kind of hunting that I do very well. I saw this one a while back, and before I knew what happened, it was on the way to my local gun shop. I know that it isn't the best looking rifle to a lot of people, but I got use to its looks 30 years ago and am glad to have one again.

I'm not usually a Browning fan, but that just looks like it belongs in the woods, IMO.

Scrolling through these posts I'm reminded that while the accuracy of the synthetic stocked customs is logically beautiful, there is still nothing more attractive than a deep blued rifle with a dark piece of oil finished walnut. I.e kimber superamerica.

Nothing beats a crf Model 70 in exceptional walnut formed into a classical styled stock for me. ymmv

Every once in a while i get the urge to sell everything and stick to 1 quality stainless syn gun like an x2 or something...but then i realize that I'm already in my 30s and only have 40 years or so to go God willing and those pretty blued and walnut guns wont likely turn to dust in 40 years.
