Notice it didn't read 'Designed FOR Alaskans'...
or BY Alaskans.
But I'm certain the R&D in Yonkers knows what works for a few years in a rain forest.
Any more questions, anyone?

Its an interesting rifle. Somehow I thought it was short barreled like some of the new Rugers.

8400 Talkeenta .375 H&H Mag.
Glad they are leaving them stainless.
And the soon to be announced Rhode Island, ready for anything the seaside state can dish out.

The upcoming Pennsylvanian that blends with your camo.

The Texan, a perfect blend of 50 caliber, weight, and stability for those demanding shots on Texas whitetails at the feeder.

Its the "Ocean State" not the seaside state. Best cruising waters on earth for the sailor.

Here is an all purpose one waiting at the ferry dock.

The Californian, because we know REAL guns aren't allowed, but we still want your business.

You guessed it, the Alabamian! When you just have to kill 60 doe in a greenfield before the lease owner allows you a buck tag.
We have not heard from Hawaii. Its about 11 there now and I bet they are relaxed and content.

Here is one of the best places on earth in my experiance.

Cuttyhunk Sunset

You're on a roll Scott! Pretty damn funny too.

Perhaps a few regional AK based models? The stock of the Talkeetna should be tie-died!

How about a "Valley Trash" model rigged to a tripod mount on the front rack of a 4-wheeler?

Maybe a "Anchorage Subsistence Special" that comes with a $80,000 RV "Hunting Camp"?

Getting way off topic. This could be a thread of it's own.

Jeff
Wow, those Alaskan Moose are so tough you need a 375 H&H to put one down! grin

I guess everything IS tougher in Alaska. smile
Nice looking rig but for 2100 bones I could get a fully equipped Kimber Montana with a nice scope for less than that, or even a 700 Ti with a scope. Other than caliber, what's the difference between the the Talkeetna and the Montana?
Anyone want to buy my 338?....grin

It's a larger action, and it's got sights. And it costs about a grand more.

At least they didn't put a Hogue stock on it...

And the front sight will get in the way of blue tape, so that's a downside grin...

Kimber copies Ruger's marketing approach...who would have thought it.

If they come out with a 21" Montana .338 RCM with iron sights, I will become interested.

While the Alaska crowd may not be jumping for joy over the annoucement, it does make sense for the safari crowd. Team that .375 Montana-esque rifle up with a 7-08, .308, or WSM Montana and you've got a pretty good 2 rifle battery for hunting the world. Whether it's worth another grand over a standard Montana is debatable.

Who it makes sense for...is Kimber. And I don't mean that in any derogatory way at all. They covered the upper-end short action niche; then the short-fat niche; then the long-action niche -- the magnum Alaska/Africa niche had to follow. It's not a bad strategy at all, and they are probably fine rifles.

What makes some of us snicker may be the notion that the caribou tundra/moose timber/brown bear thickets are all there is to Alaska, or Alaska hunting.

And many tend to view Talkeetna as more of a granola granary than a hunting mecca grin.

That's what I thought - at $2100 for a rifle, anyone who wants one in Talkeetna is going to have to expand the crawlspace and install more grow lights.
TFF!
And here I thought the standard "Alaska" rifle was a Mcswirly 223AI...

I couldn't help but laugh after seeing that one. smile
We expect to see the Delta Immigrant model any day now....the new high tech electronic firing system disables the rifle upon opening of any legal hunting season....BATFE forms are to be completed in Russian and registration can be completed when Federal Agents [BLM] visit the community to issue Federal Subsistance Hunting Tags [1 moose & 2 caribou]. The price is right as the same bureaucracy that arranged free heating oil can arrange a similar bargain for the nice rifle....after all, it is needed for subsistance isn't it?

If I spent $2100 on a gun, my wife would use it on me. frown
In that case I recommend you go with the smallest contour barrel you can find.......
good advice.

Yup, and then they can use it for standing on the shoulder of the Richardson Highway shoulder to shouder for a mile this side of Haggard Creek pull off and mowe down every single Caribou that attempts to cross the road, regardless of sex or age. Then stack em 10ft high on a 2 place snowmachine trailer and tow them back to their 5000sq ft compound off Hanson Rd....grin

Got to have lived in Delta to understand that one!
What's a guy from B.C. to do? There is an Alaska model a Montana model but no B.C. model, it's racism grin Maybe Steelhead has a pic of our special model.
well I guess we all know what Steelhead is doing after retiring from the Coast Guard.

fancy corner office doing R&D and marketing for major firearm corporations.

The Canadian. Chambered in 303 British, the cartridge that REALLY tamed Canada. Viva La France Canada!

Hey come on thats Savage 99 when he stepped off the boat in Alaska..Can't blame us for that......grin
Don, never looked so good...lol... crazy
lmao.
Nice summation of the various models, Steelhead. Well done.

You forgot the Wisconsin/Minnesota version, though....something in a cheap semi auto, with see-through scope mounts should suffice. grin

I like the idea of the "Talkeetna" rifle, but it needs a shorter barrel and a price tag more inline with the "Montana" to coax me into buying one.

I have a Savage .375 Alaska Guide Model and dig the handling. I just wish it wasn't a Savage. smile
Steelhead, I almost had to gouge my own eyes out after looking at that "Canadian dude" I hope I don't have nightmares tonight. Maybe we can live without the B.C. model. eek
Steelhead,

In your past life, you bragged about bagging many a Canuck chick - how did you like the one you posted? Was it all you expected - or more? eek
Pretty sure that was a pic of Kute that you snapped, I only borrowed it..............grin
SH would't touch that. No way it could be "improved"

Been gone for a while & just saw this thread. A "new" Kimber? Does that mean that acuracy will be better than "minute of moose at 50 yds."?
