Nice looking rig but for 2100 bones I could get a fully equipped Kimber Montana with a nice scope for less than that, or even a 700 Ti with a scope. Other than caliber, what's the difference between the the Talkeetna and the Montana? It's a larger action, and it's got sights. And it costs about a grand more. At least they didn't put a Hogue stock on it... And the front sight will get in the way of blue tape, so that's a downside ... Kimber copies Ruger's marketing approach...who would have thought it. If they come out with a 21" Montana .338 RCM with iron sights, I will become interested. DN

While the Alaska crowd may not be jumping for joy over the annoucement, it does make sense for the safari crowd. Team that .375 Montana-esque rifle up with a 7-08, .308, or WSM Montana and you've got a pretty good 2 rifle battery for hunting the world. Whether it's worth another grand over a standard Montana is debatable.

Who it makes sense for...is Kimber. And I don't mean that in any derogatory way at all. They covered the upper-end short action niche; then the short-fat niche; then the long-action niche -- the magnum Alaska/Africa niche had to follow. It's not a bad strategy at all, and they are probably fine rifles. What makes some of us snicker may be the notion that the caribou tundra/moose timber/brown bear thickets are all there is to Alaska, or Alaska hunting. And many tend to view Talkeetna as more of a granola granary than a hunting mecca . DN

That's what I thought - at $2100 for a rifle, anyone who wants one in Talkeetna is going to have to expand the crawlspace and install more grow lights.

And here I thought the standard "Alaska" rifle was a Mcswirly 223AI...

We expect to see the Delta Immigrant model any day now....the new high tech electronic firing system disables the rifle upon opening of any legal hunting season....BATFE forms are to be completed in Russian and registration can be completed when Federal Agents [BLM] visit the community to issue Federal Subsistance Hunting Tags [1 moose & 2 caribou]. The price is right as the same bureaucracy that arranged free heating oil can arrange a similar bargain for the nice rifle....after all, it is needed for subsistance isn't it?

In that case I recommend you go with the smallest contour barrel you can find.......

Yup, and then they can use it for standing on the shoulder of the Richardson Highway shoulder to shouder for a mile this side of Haggard Creek pull off and mowe down every single Caribou that attempts to cross the road, regardless of sex or age. Then stack em 10ft high on a 2 place snowmachine trailer and tow them back to their 5000sq ft compound off Hanson Rd....grin Got to have lived in Delta to understand that one!

What's a guy from B.C. to do? There is an Alaska model a Montana model but no B.C. model, it's racism Maybe Steelhead has a pic of our special model.
