While the Alaska crowd may not be jumping for joy over the annoucement, it does make sense for the safari crowd. Team that .375 Montana-esque rifle up with a 7-08, .308, or WSM Montana and you've got a pretty good 2 rifle battery for hunting the world. Whether it's worth another grand over a standard Montana is debatable.

Who it makes sense for...is Kimber. And I don't mean that in any derogatory way at all. They covered the upper-end short action niche; then the short-fat niche; then the long-action niche -- the magnum Alaska/Africa niche had to follow. It's not a bad strategy at all, and they are probably fine rifles.

What makes some of us snicker may be the notion that the caribou tundra/moose timber/brown bear thickets are all there is to Alaska, or Alaska hunting.

And many tend to view Talkeetna as more of a granola granary than a hunting mecca .

That's what I thought - at $2100 for a rifle, anyone who wants one in Talkeetna is going to have to expand the crawlspace and install more grow lights.
